Bruno watched her coldly the entire time, neither stopping her nor pushing her away.
It wasn't until the echo of high heels receded outside that Mandy finally paused. She imagined Bailey's face at that moment??her smile was filled with arrogance and smugness. Bailey was after a cushy life, clinging to Bruno as if he were her golden ticket.
'Yeah, keep dreaming,' Mandy sneered internally. 'I'll show her what it's like to have her precious man snatched right from under her nose.'
Bruno pinched Mandy's chin, coldly looking her over. "Enjoying yourself?"
Mandy looked at him innocently.
Bruno's tone was full of warning. " I don??t appreciate being played." This sentence contained many layers of meaning.
Mandy quickly reacted; Bruno had most likely investigated her. With his abilities, it wouldn't be difficult.
"How do you know I'm using you?" Mandy raised her hand, her palm covering the back of his hand, gently stroking it with a hint of suggestion and teasing. "Actually, I've had a crush on you for a long time."
Bruno gave a silent, mocking smile.
Mandy raised her jaw. "Don't believe me?"
As she spoke, she reached her other hand towards his belt buckle. "Then I'll prove it to you right now."
Suddenly, a ringing of Bruno's phone interrupted Mandy's movements.
Mandy watched as Bruno, who had been pressing down on her, turned and walked towards the coffee table. She rubbed her almost dislocated jaw, glaring at his back.
'Bruno, you heartless bastard.' She seethed silently.
"Bailey told you?"
"No."
"Okay, right away."
From a distance of about 3 feet, Mandy heard Bruno's words without missing a single one.
Bruno hung up the phone, put it back on the coffee table, picked up the brand new shirt on the sofa and put it on, buttoning it up one by one. Then he reached for his suit jacket. Throughout the entire process, his gaze had only lingered on Mandy for a second, as if she didn't exist. It had to be said, his self-control was astonishingly strong.
Mandy straightened her dress and walked in front of Bruno, blocking his way. Her eyes were red-rimmed, as if she were about to cry in the next second.
Bruno didn't give her a chance to put on a show, stating bluntly: "Three million, delete the video, and I won't pursue the matter of you bribing the waiter to spill wine on me."
Mandy's heart skipped a beat. Bruno had even guessed that.
Mandy didn't intend to admit it and continued to play dumb, "I don't know what you're talking about."
Bruno put on his suit jacket and looked down at her condescendingly. "You're too inexperienced to play this game with me."
Since playing nice didn't work, Mandy had no choice but to play tough.
She raised her lips, her finger tapping against his chest. "There are so many prominent figures at the banquet tonight. I wonder if they'll be scared to see Mr. Cress's rough appearance in bed."
Bruno stared at her coldly, his voice flat. "Try me."
*****
The plan had failed. Mandy was extremely irritated when she returned to the banquet hall. Bruno, that bastard, was completely unmoved by beauty. Despite her best efforts, he remained indifferent. If she hadn't known how ferocious he was in bed, she would have doubted his abilities in that area.
Seeing Mandy's state, Misty knew that the plan had probably failed. "Bruno rejected you?"
Mandy took the champagne she handed over and sat down. "He played me."
Misty's eyes widened. "What do you mean?"
"He realized I was there earlier and knew I followed him upstairs."
Mandy was so angry that she drank the entire glass of champagne in one gulp and then told her everything that had happened in the lounge.
After finishing, she couldn't help but curse, "Damn, that bastard, he's so cunning and treacherous."
Misty was left speechless.
Mandy gritted her teeth. "He better pray that he doesn't fall into my hands in the future."
Misty pushed a dessert towards Mandy, comforting her. "Where there's life, there's hope. As long as you have the video, you have leverage to negotiate with him."
Mandy's eyes narrowed as she thought of something. "Qingfan, are there other women besides Bailey around Bruno?"
"I'm not sure." Misty shook her head.
"Can you help me find out?"
They had been good friends for many years and had a perfect understanding. Misty immediately understood Mandy's intention. "You want to??"
Before she could finish her sentence, there was a commotion in the center of the banquet hall. Mandy and Misty looked over at the same time.
Bailey walked in, arm in arm with Bruno, her face beaming with happiness.
Wayne followed closely behind, chatting and laughing with Bruno.
A hint of mockery flashed across Mandy's eyes. She took out her lipstick and touched up her lips. Her lips curved into a smirk as she gathered her emotions, picked up her wine glass, and walked towards the three of them.
*****
Wayne looked at Bailey and Bruno's arms linked together, a satisfied smile on his face. After tonight's banquet, everyone would see him as Bruno's future father-in-law.
"Mr. Cox, long time no see." Wayne's thoughts were interrupted by a female voice.
Hearing the voice, the smile on his face instantly disappeared. He looked in the direction of the voice and his eyes turned sharp when he saw the familiar face.
Mandy had a stunningly beautiful face. The low-cut dress accentuated her near-perfect figure. The slit of her skirt swayed with her every step, revealing glimpses of her fair legs, making her even more alluring.
As soon as she appeared, she stole everyone's attention.
Mandy stopped in front of Wayne and parted her red lips in a sweet smile. "Mr. Cox, it's only been eight years. You haven't forgotten me, have you?"
Wayne knew that he couldn't lose his temper on such an occasion, let alone let Mandy have her way. He lowered his voice. "Come out with me."
Mandy gently swirled her red wine glass, the liquid inside swaying with her movements. Her frivolous tone was laced with nonchalance. "Sorry, but I'm not here to see you today."
With that, she turned around with a smile and walked gracefully towards Bruno under everyone's gaze. Mandy looked directly at Bruno, her red lips slightly parted. "Mr. Cress, you are even more handsome in person than in the photos."
