Bruno could tell from Mandy's tone that she was drunk. Only when she wasn't sober would she speak in such a sticky tone, her pronunciation slurred.
He used his chopsticks to put a few pieces of meat on her plate. "It's worth the money since it's for you."
Mandy propped her chin on one hand, tilted her head, squinted at Bruno for a moment, and asked, "You wouldn't have fallen in love with me, would you?"
"I thought I was being obvious," Bruno replied.
Mandy scoffed.
"You don't believe me," Bruno said.
"I might believe it if you said you were in love 'with' me," Mandy retorted. She drank another cup of liquor and laughed mockingly. "Trusting men will bring you a lifetime of misfortune. This is a lesson I learned from my mother's blood and tears."
