Call of the Unknown

Martin had once again woken up in the woods with no clothes on unaware of how he had gotten there, all he knew was that it was a nightly occurrence for him making him begin to worry. When it started a month ago, it was only happening once or twice a week, but now had escalated to every night, with him in the same location every time. He knew that she had to do something about it before she was eaten by a bear or bitten by a snake. He planned to set up cameras in the house leading to where his wake-up spot was and then watch the footage to see what happens. He called up his friend Sam and asked him to come over and set up some security cameras around the property and some in the woods close by. He didn't tell him much figuring it would be safer if he didn't know what was really going on, he trusted his friend but even to himself, it all sounded crazy. He gave instructions to hide the cameras and to not say where they were, he knew his subconscious would turn them off. He agreed although he thought it was strange that he didn't want to know where the cameras were going to be set up. "OK Martin your all set, I still don't understand why you don't want to know where they are" "I just like being surprised, besides I can go look for them if I want to know" "Well let me know if you catch anything interesting on film" "I will, so how do I look at the footage again?" "I set up an app on your phone and laptop, all you have to do is click on it and go to the folder marked footage" "Thanks again for all your help" "Anytime" That night he went to bed knowing in the morning the mystery would finally be answered and he could figure out a way to prevent his subconscious from taking over. When he woke up the next day the first thing he thought of was the footage and what might be on there. He was not prepared for what he saw when the footage was played; a man coming out of the woods greeted by a naked him. They embraced for a long time before they finally headed into the woods to do who knows what for how long. He watched as the man led him into the woods and then into a blind spot his cameras could not see and that was it, he never came back out. The man looked like he lived somewhere in the woods, his next plan was to set a trap to catch the man the next time he came for him. It was simple he would place sticky paper with a tracker on it all around his yard so when he came for him he would step on one and he could see where he goes when the night is over. His plan worked like a charm and after he got cleaned up and dressed he checked the GPS tracker to see where it had gone making sure to take his hunting knife. He had to walk for a long time until he finally came to a stop in front of what looked like a run-down house. The man from the video came out of the house to greet him like he knew he would come sooner or later. "Took you long enough" "Who are you?" "The tracker was a smart idea" "I know, now tell me who you are" "I can't do that right now" "Why not?" "You're not ready to know that" "You have seen me naked, I think you owe me at least a name" "Why don't you just call me Jae" "Fine, now can you tell me why I keep ending up in the woods naked every night" "You and I share a connection that draws us to each other each night" "How do you know this?" "I came to in the middle once and got you or your subconscious to tell me everything" "How do I stop this from happening again?" "I don't think you can, I tried to tie myself to the bed once and my subconscious just untied the ropes" "I will find a way to stop this even if it takes me a long time to do so, this can't go on, I don't even know you" "Suit yourself, man, I gave up trying to stop this, my subconscious is just going to keep trying and so is yours" The man then went back inside leaving a stunned Martin to figure out how he was going to stop himself from wandering out at night to find this Jae person. When he got home he called up Sam and asked him to come and set up a camera in one of the spare bedrooms in the house. Then he put a lock on the door that locked from the outside; Sam would stay the night and monitor the camera while he slept in the spare room. He told him that he was sleepwalking and the lock was a precaution so that he didn't hurt herself by wandering into the woods or setting the house on fire by accident. That night he fell asleep like normal with Sam keeping a close eye on him through the camera, what Sam saw was shocking and a bit scary. Martin climbed out of the bed and went to the door but when he realized it wouldn't open, he tried the window next with the same results. Martin had the foresight to put bars on the window in case he tried to go out that way which seemed to pay off because he did try. When he realized there was no way out of the room he began to panic picking up things and throwing them against the door in an attempt to break it down. Sam deciding it would be safer to let Martin out than for him to hurt himself trying to escape, opened the door and stood in his way so barring access out of the room. "Whoa, Martin you have to stop, you can't leave" "Get out of my way", he didn't sound like himself. "No, you have to stop" he pushed at him but he was much stronger than him. "Let me go, I have to go to him" "Who is this him? You can't leave right now" "I need him, get out of my way, now" "No, you don't know what you are doing", Sam was so busy with Martin that he didn't see the man behind him until it was too late and he was on the floor. He got up and tried to stop them but the mystery man just pushed him aside and kept on walking with Martin right behind him, he ran after them but lost them in the woods. When morning came Martin returned to the house and apologized to Sam for the crazy night promising to explain everything soon. His next stop was to the house he knew Jae would be in, he needed to let him know everything that happened last night. He drove over just in time to see him climbing into a truck, he blocked his way so he could not leave. "Wait, we need to talk" "No, I need to go and get supplies" "Supplies for what?" "I am trying to fix up this place, I figure if I am going to live here I might as well feel safe" "So you didn't live here before" "No, and my subconscious won't let me leave" "Nonetheless we need to talk about last night" "What about last night, I'm sure it went just like all the others" "Not this time" "Fine, get in and we can talk on the way to the hardware store" Martin climbed into the truck, taking note of all the things inside, the truck was very old with a tape player instead of an aux cord for phone hook-up. He wondered how long he had, had the car because it looked like it could fall apart at any minute and he didn't know if it was safe. He wanted to say something about it but could tell that Jae was feeling uncomfortable with him being there. As soon as they were on the road it was time to bring up last night and all the things that happened. "We need to talk about last night" "What about last night?" "You attacked my friend Sam" "What? No, I didn't" "Yeah you did, I can show you the video to prove it" "Is he OK?" "Yeah, but he is wondering what is going on, I am going to have to tell him something" "What are you going to tell him?" "I am going to tell him the truth" "Are you sure that's a good idea?" "He's already gone through a lot I owe him that much" "Fine, I guess I should at least apologize for last night then" "You can come by tonight for dinner" "Do I need to bring anything?" "Maybe a change of clothes" "Why would I need a change of clothes?" "Because you are going to stay the night, I'm tired of waking up in the woods and I want to see what goes on while we are asleep" "I guess I do too, so I will go along with this plan", They finished riding to the store and talking about the plan for the night; it was not going to be easy tricking their subconscious into staying in one place the night.
