Chapter 3
Alissa turned the stove off and got ready to head home to her children, she entered her office and removed her apron and hairnet she got ready to leave the restaurant. She locked the doors and began walking out the restaurant doors.
She saw the guard who just came in for his night duty, “Good evening Jeff, how’s the family?” Alissa said with a smile on her face.
“They are doing alright, You’re all done for the day? Hope you had a blast like always Lisa dear?” Jeff said as he walked to his post.
“Yeah, like always, work was a blast! Now I have to get home to the kids.” Alissa lit up with the thought of going home to her children.
“Ahh, your mate is one lucky wolf, well we are all blessed with the mates that will stay with us till the end of time. Make sure to spend more time with those little rascals, they grow up too fast.” Jeff said, smiling ear to ear, he failed to notice Alissa’s smile fade.
“Head home dear, I know they will be waiting for you at home. I’ll see you in the morning.” Jeff added, waving Alissa goodbye.
Alissa waved back and began heading home, as she walked down to the station she didn’t fail to capture the eyes of the men both young and old alike. She might be a mother but she didn’t lose her striking figure.
She was what everybody knew as perfect, but there was one thing that she couldn’t hide nor deny. The fact that she was a wolf without a mate, her children for the past six years have been asking where their father was.
She didn’t want their young hearts to be broken, she told them that their father was a busy wolf and an important part of the pack, she couldn’t bring herself to tell them that she didn’t know who their father was.
She thanked the heavens that they were easily distracted by modern day technology, so the topic of their father disappeared quickly as it came.
Alissa reached the station and boarded the train and sat down as she waited to reach her destination; she closed her eyes as memories of her father and sister played through her mind.
Alissa took a deep breath, “Maybe one day we would meet again.” She said under her breath.
The train came to its first stop and that was where Alissa was stopping. She got down and began heading home.
Alissa was lost in a train of thoughts as she walked home, she remembered what Malia had told her about hiding the truth from the kids.
“Alissa dear, don’t see it like I’m butting into your business. But I want to tell you something.” Malia said coming into the room where Alissa was studying in.
Alissa sat up and turned to Malia, “What is it Aunty? Did anything happen?” Alissa sat up properly to talk to Malia, Malia smiled and nodded her head to reassure Alissa that everything was fine.
“Dear I just to ask you something, the other day I overheard Kyle telling Jared how the other kids at his school all brought their father’s pictures to school.” Malia paused to see the look on Alissa’s face, it wasn’t the face of someone that was upset but a look of confusion.
“Alissa dear, I know it’s hard for you and I have been with you long enough to know that you want the best for your child. But one day all this hiding won’t work and then it might be too late to plead with them.”
Back to the present day, Alissa stopped in front of their house, she had bought the house after landing a contract with her company. She worked hard to make sure she gave Malia and Jared shelter after they lost their home to a storm.
Alissa walked to the door, she knocked on the door. There were little footsteps coming towards the door, the knob shook and the door opened.
“Ahh, welcome home Alissa dear. We were just talking about you.” Malia said as opened the door for Alissa. Alissa walked in, she was already exhausted. Her two little children ran up to her and hugged her.
“Welcome home mom.” Kyle said smiling, while his mother ruffled his hair. Lily came running with a painting in her hands she was covered with red and blue paint respectively. Alissa hugged Lily and Kyle together smiling, “What’s this in your hand lily?” Alissa was referring to a scribble Lily had in her hands.
Lily showed her mother the picture she had painted, “It’s a painting of our family, there’s mommy, me and Kyle, granny and pop pop.” Lily said pointing at the picture. Alissa saw that her daughter had left out a part of her painting.
“Lily, then who is this? You didn’t say who it was.” Alissa pointed at her daughter’s painting. “Oh that’s daddy! I couldn’t leave him out of the picture.” Lily said smiling, Alissa felt a bit hurt but she didn’t want her daughter to feel bad, so she smiled along with her.
“You did good, you did good Lily. Now the both of you go freshen yourselves up I’m going whip you up something nice and delicious.” Alissa said getting up, the twins both cheered as they ran to the bathroom to get themselves cleaned up.
“So how was work today Ali? You came back awfully late.” Malia asked as Alissa dropped her bags. “It was tiring! The customers for some reason kept coming in, and they were visitors from another pack that wanted to try our restaurant so I had to stay and serve them.” Alissa said as she walked into her room.
“Mmh, must be for the upcoming blood moon, you know that’s why all the young wolfs from different pack go other packs in search of their mate. My, that’s how I met Jared.” Malia said smiling at the wonderful memories.
“You should attend the blood moon, you might just meet your mate there.” Malia added trying to cheer Alissa up.
“Nah auntie, no one is going to want to be mates with a mother of two, besides I’m happy this way and I already gave up on my dreams of meeting my mate a long time ago.” Alissa said as she sat down on the chair next to Malia.
“Nonsense, everyone has a mate and will eventually end up with them. It might take time but the one for you is out there.” Malia said, trying to get Alissa to smile and be happy.
Alissa knew wouldn’t win the argument, she simply smiled and let Malia win. Alissa’s phone began to ring, Alissa was surprised she wasn’t expecting any calls that evening.
She looked at the caller id and it was her boss at the restaurant; Mr Lopez. Alissa answered the phone fearing the worst, “Hello Mr Lopez, any problem sir?” Alissa asked, waiting for an outburst.
“Alissa, There are no problems, in fact I called to tell you something. I was meant to wait till tomorrow but I couldn’t hold myself.” Lopez said on the other end of the phone.
Alissa was surprised what was so important that Mr Lopez couldn’t wait till tomorrow, “What is it sir?”
