“Did you all make sure no one saw you dumping those bags into the sea? I don’t want any complications when we seal this deal next week. You know those police already have their noses on us.” Theodore Gadducci spending a typical day inside his home office surrounded by bodyguards and a few of his associates wearing black leather jacket armed with two guns in both pockets, with hair as sleek as oil and black as ebony. While he is talking to one of his most trusted personnel whom he entrusts to handle the dumping of a few of the body bags into the ocean early this morning and when he meant ocean, that means literally far from the shore, like pacific far and they just got back. His looks are more like bearded black hair guy with olive color complexion and brown eyes that looks like always on an alert mode which you could tell that anytime and any second he would attack. He was a trained assassin that’s why Theodore wants him since day one and he never left his side since, he started working for the Gadduccis since he was twenty years old, have to earn his way to the top and now he is almost forty and no plan on quitting. He thinks he knows more about the operations than Adam and sometimes they would have slight arguments regarding some matter about the business.
“Clean slate, everything’s been taken care of. You don’t have to worry about anything.” He said confidently as he took a sit in front of Theodore’s table.
“As it should be. I don’t want any problem. So how was our transaction coming from Spain, are everything on schedule?” Theodore Gadducci hates delays, changed of plans and complications inside his business, he doesn’t like anything that would alter everything they have planned. It should be precise and be on track no matter what. He doesn’t follow the system, the system follows him and that works well for him over the years and he subjects follows his rules he they will no longer see the light of day ever again, ending up lifeless in the bottom of the sea.
“Everything is on schedule. The news said there are six missing people, we only dumped three does this mean that the Amari is behind any of this?” Red, the trusted personnel knows that Theodore does not like to talk about the Amari Empire at this hour it is too unappetizing for him, but he had to bring it up. The Amari Empire is the Gadducci’s competitor with the legal and illegal business around the city. Steven Amari is a wealthy business tycoon just like Theodore who owns almost half of the city he is also a Mafia god, the kind of title this entitled selfish rich people like to call themselves. They secretly hated each other on occasions that they have to mingle for publicity they’re just casually greeting each other and a few small talks, political gatherings and investment meetings, their names are always plastered anywhere whenever there are huge events in the city and it so hard to miss the site of the two huge personalities. Theodore secretly loathed Steven he even suspected him of being responsible of that night’s shooting, the night that he lost his precious wife and he knows up until this moment that it was him, it has to be him and he’s been keeping his eyes around Amari Empire over the years what happened to his wife must be given justice and he wants the culprit’s head hanged in his secret chambers just down stairs where he held his private meetings. Theodore’s face grimace upon hearing that name, but weighing the current situation there is no time for anger and reprimanding.
“Who else would it be? They are the only one who could do equally us we do, but we all know we do it better. The best even.” He is proud of his accomplishments and he will not always be ashamed of any of it. Adam will take over very soon and he wants everything to be in order and be ready for his only son.
While on their way home Kate seemed quiet while driving towards their neighborhood as Karen is somewhat not at ease in her side of the car. Her father went back to his station and promised to be home before dinner, even though sometimes it won’t happen.
“Look I am sorry I blurted out earlier. He doesn’t seemed interested and believed what you’ve said, unless there is more to that than what it seemed.” Kate shrugged the thought of the “more” thing and concentrate on the road.
“It’s okay Aunt Karen, you don’t have to worry about a thing and besides we won’t be hearing anything from that guy anyway.” She pulled into the driveway right away and turned her car off as her Aunt immediately went out the car and towards the front door, she heard her Aunt talking. Kate hurry towards the foyer and is shocked and can’t believe what she just seeing right as of the moment, she feel like her hands went cold and stiffen.
“Good afternoon Kate.” Kate noticed that Adam changed his clothes, plain dark red shirt and a jeans, fitted shirt that makes her flexed muscles more obvious being the nervous Kate she bites her lips while looking at him not realizing the effect she’s giving Adam. He clenched his jaws looking at Kate’s lip just wanting to kiss them, he’s been wanting to kiss that lips of hers from the moment he laid his eyes on them.
“Stay for dinner Mr. Gadducci?” Karen invites him as she opens the door behind him and led him to enter.
“Please call me Adam, Ma’am.”
“Please call me Karen, I insist that you stay for dinner.”
“What are you doing here?” the moment Karen entered towards the kitchen she made sure they can’t be heard. She grabbed him by the arm and dragged him towards the home office which she contemplates now if she made the right decision to be in private with this man. He smiled with pleasure that he now can be alone with her, he could just easily spread her right here right now if he pleases but he won’t do it, Kate is not easy and he learnt it the painful way.
“I came here to offer you the job.” Flashing a smile at her. She squinted her eyes with disbelief.
“How informal of you Mr. Gadducci.” Crossing her arms in front of her.
“Plus I want to invite you for dinner, your choice.” Placing his hands inside his pockets and rocking himself back and forth hoping for a positive answer from her.
“And you figured barging into my house would give you a sounding yes?”
“I figured you will not answer my calls based on our previous interaction in the office and in the coffee shop, so going here and asking you personally is my best option.” Honestly he is nervous that he is inside the Chief of Police’s home, the man who’s been eyeing on his father for a long time, but he have to wing it for Kate, there was a time today that he questioned himself the lengths that he will have to go to have this woman all to himself and just recently while sitting inside his office and looking at her picture in the resume he decided that he would go any lengths just to have her, even putting himself in danger, he must be crazy he knows that but he is also convinced that if he lets her go then he is definitely insane.
“I guess you will be having dinner here, so you got what you came here for.” She step backwards trying to lengthen the gap between them, she don’t want to fall for a wrong person again. Even though how intoxicating his stares and the way he looks at her, she still is afraid of him. He describes him as dangerously handsome and sometimes that is a red flag in Kate’s book.
The moment they step out from the home office the main door opened and Chief Coleman enters the house along with Edward and Martha. Kate stiffens as she sees her father’s eyes widens from the scene he just saw and Kate feels Adam’s body hard behind her. But why is he holding my hand? She thought, her father’s eyes turns shock to furious marching towards them.
“Care to explain what’s going on here?” hands in his waist with obviously just wants to grab his licensed gun and fire at Adam’s head which is more likely would happen if Kate won’t talk right this instant.
“He offered me the job Dad.” She let go of his hand but it clearly is too late, Edward and Martha saw it, which makes Martha smiling from behind Chief Coleman and making an approving sign towards Kate. Edward in the other hand look displeased.
“And he offered you the job inside my office?”
“”Actually that was one of the reason why I came here sir.” Adam’s voice overpowers hers as he step forwards from behind her and confidently facing Chief Coleman. “I was here to ask your permission of I could take your daughter to a gathering in my house tomorrow evening. My father is organizing a fund raising event in benefit of our soldiers in battle and for the children’s hospital.” He knows it is a bad thing to bring his father into this because the Chief knows what’s what. Chief Coleman look Adam in suspicion, the Gadducci is a dangerous place for his daughter to be.
“I could take Martha with me, it is okay?” Kate asked Adam this time, holding his forearm to make him face her.
“Take anyone you want. You could Vera too, if the Chief approves that is.” The attention went back to Chief Coleman, who is still contemplating about the arrangement.
“More guests! I’ll set up the table.” As Karen went from the kitchen with her apron and mitten on.
