Chapter 2

1587 Words
I was excited as well as a bit nervous to be hanging out with Greg and his brother. Bobby was coming along with us so that would make things less nerve wrecking. Greg would be here any moment not. I glance in the mirror at my image. I had a mirror hanging in my hallway by the bathroom door. Downstairs. I was off work for the day. I worked at a grocery store in town here. I was a manager there. I mostly sat at a desk all day long and helped other workers get their jobs done. I did not mind it. Other days I went to visit other stores. And tend to the workers there. It was not as exciting as Greg's job was. He was a boss that made buildings. Created homes. He must have a very creative mind. I could not wait for him to show me what he had built in this town. I was sure he would tell me stories. The doorbell rings. I glance down at my orange colored flower print dress. I had a plain cream white shirt on. And a peace sign necklace. Simple threads but they would do. The dress showed my tan legs off nicely. I even painted my nails today for Greg. Greg was so nice. So sweet. Gosh he had the best smile. I hear the doorbell ring again. Oh, dear I was going to make him late for his job. I rush to the door. ♡♪♬♪♡ "Hi!" I breath out once I open the door. There stands Greg and his brother Bobby. "Hi" they answer at the same time. They smile at me. I shake hands with them both. "Daisy Mae this is my brother Bobby Brady. Bobby this is Alice niece Daisy" Greg introduces us. Bobby was handsome to but not as handsome as Greg. Bobby smiles at me. "Pleasure to meet you Daisy" Bobby says. "We love Alice" "I love her to" I giggle. "Well come on guys. Work awaits. I hope you won't be to bored on the job site. I won't be there long today. Bobby is taking over for me. And then we can grab some lunch. I mean if you would like?" he asks me shyly. He was blushing a bit. I could not help but smile back. "I would love to" I agree. We go head to the car. Bobby let's me hop in the front of the car. Greg holds the door open for me like a gentleman would. We soon are on the open road. Greg has a groovy car. Music was blasting in the speakers. He turns it down for me. ♡♪♬♪♡ "I like that song you can leave it up" I offer. He grins. "Great" he tells me. We soon are at a construction site. Greg holds my hand. "I don't want you to trip and get hurt" he warns me. "Thank you" I say shyly. Now I was the shy one. "What we are building here is a new art center for kids in this town" Greg says. "The locals in the church had raised money for it. It will help keep kids off the streets around here" he explains to me. "Wow that is something" I say as I glance around the place. It really did not seem like much. But now that he was talking about his vision it was amazing. Greg walks me over and then rolls out the plans for me to look at. He talks about where things will go. How this all will work out. It was something to see. I wish my job was not so boring. I felt a little dull next to someone like Greg. "You see my dad used to work for a man named Mr. Philips. Then when he died then my father took over this place. And then I did when he died" Greg explains. "I could not let this company go in the hands of a stranger" he tells me. "I can see why" I say. "Let me get the work I need to done then we can go to grab some lunch" he offers. ♡♪♬♪♡ He smiles then touches my arm before wandering down to talk with others. I glance around me. This was so exciting. This little town was thriving. Thanks to Greg. He really did a noble thing and kept these peoples jobs going for them to. Greg was going to find me to be boring when he found out I worked for a Piggly Wiggly. I sigh. Maybe it was time to get a new job so that I could keep men like Greg interested in me. "Are you doing alright? Greg asked me to check in on you here" Bobby asks me. "Oh, I am perfectly fine" I promise him. He nods. "If Greg goes by McDonalds' today tell him I want a cheeseburger" he jokes. "and a large fry" I giggle. "Will do" I snicker. Pretty soon I am sitting on a large rock there waiting on Greg. Thinking of what job's, I could do around this town. Something amazing. What had I always wanted to do? I knew it had nothing to do with working at a Piggly Wiggly. I was plain and ordinary. I sigh again. "Bored?" Greg jokes as he comes to join me. "Oh no, I was thinking that is all" I tell him. "About?" he asks me. "My job. I have to go back to work tomorrow" I sigh. "It has been nice to be off work" "What do you do?" he wonders. I wince. "I am a boss over at the local Piggly Wiggly" I laugh. "Exciting huh?" "Being boss is best. So why not?" he teases. "you know my dad helped build that shopping center when I was little" he tells me. "Really?" I ask. He nods. "Mike Brady had" he tells me. I smile back. "I know I do not plan to work there forever" I say. "What would you like do to?" he asks me. "I have not given that much thought really. I will be sure to tonight" I joke. "Let's get you to lunch" he says. "As promised" I nod. He offers me his arm then we head back to the car. We pull over to the park. I wondered why we were here. The sun was shimmering brightly. And we were near the lake. It was so pretty here. ♡♪♬♪♡ "What are we doing here?" I ask. "There is a fantastic little hot dog stand we can try. I know you will love it" he says. We get out of his car. I follow his lead. He orders some good food and sodas from a vender guy that worked at the cart there. "Mr. Venetta so when will you open that swell restaurant in town? Got enough money yet?" I hear Greg asks him. "I am getting there Greg thanks for keeping my dreams going" he answers. "Who is this lovely vision you have with you today?" the man asks as he looks over at me. He was a much older man. "This is my new friend Daisy. Daisy Mae" Greg tells him. I shake the man's hand. Friends huh? Guess I knew my title. I wince. Then he and the man talk a bit. Then we go sit by the lake. Greg hands me my food. I take a bite of my hot dog. It was so yummy. And the fries were good to. "Wow this is fantastic" I say as I take another bite of my meal. "Glad you like it" he says with a smile. We sit there enjoying our meal. My heart sinks. Maybe he did not want to date someone who worked for a grocery store. Someone so boring. That was it. Now he knew more about me. I had made him change his mind about me. Friend. A word a girl did not want to hear. ♡♪♬♪♡ "Sorry I called you a friend back there. I was nervous and I was not sure where I stood with you Daisy. We are getting to know one another here. I was hoping while we were out that I could ask you out on a proper date. This would certainly not be my idea of a first date. I wanted to get you out. And get to know you today. That is all" he says softly. My heart jolts with happiness hearing that. "Really?" I ask him. "Yes" he says with a nod. "What do you say?" he asks me. "I would love to go out with you" I answer. A happy smile crosses my face. I could not help but smile. "Fantastic" he laughs. "What night works for you?" he asks me. "I am off next Tuesday" I say. "Great. Want to go to a drive-in movie?" he offers. "Or if you have another ideas" he says. "That would be great" I agree. I feel his hand land on top of mine that was resting near my leg in the grass. His fingers wrap around mine. Mine around his. My heart skips a happy beat. I had not felt this happy in such a long time. It was a nice feeling to get. I smile as I glance back over at the lake in front of us. Greg is smiling to. "I better get back to the job" he tells me once we finish eating. "I have to bring Bobby some lunch. I promised I would" "Oh, he said he wants McDonalds' cheeseburger" I laugh. "Alright" Greg says. "want an ice cream there?" he offers. "dessert?" "Sure" I say. He helps me up. Then we go back to his car. We had a date. A first date was finally set up. I could hardly wait. I was sure Alice and Mrs. Brady were going to be pleased when they found out that I had a date with Greg. •♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•♡•
