9. Let go of me

3297 Words
I sat staring at my laptop screen, trying to make a decision about whether to hack our school CCTV camera or not. For that, I need to first hack into the school website and find the IP address of the operating system linked to CCTV. It's a bit difficult task and if I get caught, I will get suspended from school, or worse I will get arrested for cyber offense. Do I need to take such a risky move just to erase the silly footage of me correcting Ty's answer sheet code? It's just a code and I won't get anything more than detention if they find out. And if Asher doesn't tell anyone, nobody is gonna know. Nevertheless, I already agreed to his deal. My heart skipped a beat as suddenly my room door clicked open. But then I realized I was just staring at my desktop and I didn't have any of my coding files open. Leaving an inaudible sigh, I turned around to see Ty frowning at me, walking inside. "What were you doing?" he then asked going to my bed and slumping down. "Nothing. Just thinking about something," I replied. "Can't you study something instead of wasting time, staring at your laptop?" I just let out a long annoyed sigh in reply. "Er..so why your new best friend didn't come to school today?" Wait! Did he mean Aaron? So he actually noticed Aaron was absent? Woah! "Best friend? Who??" I raised an eyebrow confusedly as if I didn't understand what he was talking about. "Who else? Aaron." Ty replied blankly. I chuckled. "He isn't my best friend or anything. But wait! I thought you hate him. Why are you suddenly asking about him?" "It's not like I care about him or anything. But I think he is the one who keyed Asher's car. Maybe that's why he took leave today." "I don't know," I replied shrugging my shoulders. Ty furrowed his eyebrows at me. "You didn't ask him?" "Yeah, I asked him, and he told me he isn't the one who did it. And he told one more thing..." "What thing?" Ty asked. "Why do you wanna know? You don't care, right?" "C'mon Caroline, say what's the thing," Ty said annoyed. "He said he is changing school," I lied, just to see his expression. He was surprised for a second and I saw his eyes widening a little bit. And he fell silent. Aaron actually didn't say anything like that. I had called him after coming back from school. He told, he took leave because his cousin brothers came to visit and he wanted to spend some time with them. Currently, he is happily watching a movie with them. "Really? He is changing schools? Why?" Ty chuckled after a moment. "Why do you think he took admission in Harbinger which is so far away from his home? Just to talk to you. But will you let him talk once? No. And your best friend is constantly troubling him. Finally he is done. It's better he change to a school nearer to his home. At least he can save the money he is currently spending on gas." "Good thing, I'm relieved I don't need to see his ugly face again," Ty replied nonchalantly. I couldn't help but roll my eyes. "I thought you were kind but you actually are not." His eyebrows scrunched and I knew he was about to reply to me with something not very pleasant but then a knock hit on my door and soon it sprang open again to reveal none else than the blondie. Wait! Asher! What is he doing at our home at this time? "Asher?" Ty stood up from the bed, not very surprised. "I went to your room. You weren't there. And I saw light here," Asher said nonchalantly, walking in like it was his own house. He then looked at me and scrunched his eyebrows as if confused. "By the way Ty, who is this guy?" he asked turning to Ty, taking me aback. Ty instantly started laughing at that. "Oh no! wait! You were Caroline!?" the jerk exclaimed the next moment, way too dramatically as I glared at him. Then he shot a smirk in my direction, but Ty didn't see it cause he was too engulfed in laughing. Furious, I jumped up from my chair, causing Ty to instantly stop his little laughter. Did this jerk just call me a guy? And what the hell is he doing in my room at 10 PM? Is he that close to Ty to come to our house at this time? "Oh, stop staring at me. Are you trying to kill me with your eyes? You do look like a guy in that half bun, loose t-shirt and shorts," Asher said with a chuckle. My blood was almost boiling. "Okay..enough teasing her. C'mon I got the books you need," Ty said and walked out of my room. But Asher still stayed, looking around in my room. "What?" I asked. "Is this currently your room?" "Yeah, what do you want?" "Nothing," he shrugged looking at my laptop. "Have you solved the puzzle yet?" "What puzzle?" I frowned. He didn't reply and kept looking at my laptop. "What game are you playing with me?" He averted his face back to me. "Not game. But quiz. You made me lose." I let out a sigh. "Mind getting out of my room?" He chuckled. "It's a shame you couldn't figure out yet. And wait, this isn't really your house." Huh? How dare he! "It's my Uncle's house and it's like my own home. And this is currently my room. So get out!" I sneered feeling really angry. I can't stand this jerk. "Shh...why so angry? Do you want me to tell Ty and his parents about what you did today? And you haven't told them you got detention, right? They are in the living room. Shall I go tell them?" He asked me, raising an eyebrow. Heck! This b***h really knows how to blackmail. "I agreed to come, right? Why are you blackmailing me now?" I asked. "Hmm..it's fun.." he shrugged tucking his hands in his pocket. Then he turned around and walked out of my room. I let out a loud inward scream and found myself furiously punching on my pillow with my both fist. This Asher Carter is really getting on my nerves! After punching the pillow for some time, I felt a bit relaxed and I lay down, closing my eyes. I'm getting up early tomorrow to revise some Java. And hell! Tomorrow I need to go to school early with Ty. Don't know what all things that devil is gonna make me do tomorrow. But I hope Ty will stop him if he crosses the limit. I haven't told Ty anything about my encounter with Asher, today. I just told him I decided to jog and be healthy, so I'm going to school with him. I don't know how he's gonna react if he knows I did such a risky task for him and Asher caught me red-handed. Let it be a secret. Let him think Mr. Keating did it for him. Anyway, it's gonna be a surprise to him. I pulled up my covers and shifted to my side, curling up, waiting for sleep to come. ... "Carrie, Aaron is really changing school?" Ty asked me while I was driving the both of us to school the next morning. To be honest, I was taken aback for a moment. I mean I was almost starting to believe, he no longer cares for Aaron. But again he proved it wrong so fast. "Why? You said it's good." "Er..but.It's.." Ty stammered looking out of the window while I chuckled inwardly. He then took a breath and turned to me. "Okay, I'll talk to him." "Oh..okay," I nodded. "Will he come to school today?" "Don't know," I shrugged. "Can you tell him, I want to talk to him?" "Okay.." I nodded again, controlling my laughter. I did a very big task so easily, that too without actual intention. Ty is finally gonna talk to Aaron. But I need to tell him about this plan before Ty approaches him. I pulled the car into the parking lot and we together hopped out. Today we were early. So we slowly walked towards the basketball court, feeling the cool morning breeze whip through our clothes, letting it give goosebumps on our arms. "Aren't you going to the ground? Why are you coming with me?" Ty asked me as we took the turn to the basketball court "I'll go after watching your practice for some time," I replied. "By the way, you can actually jog with us on the court," he said. "Hmm..then I'll better jog with you," I smiled suppressing a sigh. Anyway, I'm going to do exactly that. When we reached the court, Asher was already there along with two other guys. He looked paler in the morning, just like a snowman. He waved at Ty and then grinned looking at me. I don't really know what's the meaning of that grin. Anyway, I walked toward him along with Ty. "Oh..! You are here again? Why?" Asher asked looking at me as we reached near him. Jerk! I just rolled my eyes at him. "She decided to jog and become healthy," Ty replied shrugging off his bag. "I see, good decision," Asher hummed before Ty walked towards the hoop where the basketball was lying. "So??" I asked looking at Asher. "So?" he hummed. "What have you planned for me? Or you forgot?" I asked, already feeling annoyed. "How can I forget?" he chuckled. "So Caroline, you are gonna behave nicely to me today, just like a friend. And I'll also be nice to you." I wanted to slap his face. But I controlled myself. "But that isn't the actual thing I've planned for you. Because I know you'll behave real sweet to me, even without me asking. So first you're gonna jog with us for half an hour. Then you'll go to the library and get me these books," he said fishing out a piece of paper from his pocket and stretching it to me. I took it whilst frowning at him. My frown only deepened as I saw there were seven books on the list. I'm sure he doesn't need all these books. He purposely wrote the names of some random books to trouble me. And who knows whether these books are actually there in the library. "Also you need to return these books I issued last week," He said unzipping his really bulky bag and taking out a pile of books. I counted. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Yeah, there were six books in total and three of them were really fat. Oh, I forgot this jerk is a nerd. "Here, my id card. You would need this for returning books," he said stretching me his identity card. I scowled and took it, placing it in my jeans pocket while he placed the pile of books on the sidestep. "Not over yet..." he said. I left a frustrated sigh and he smirked at me. "After that, you need to go to one more place." "Where?" "There's a cafe called Cherry Merry, 10 minutes away from here. You are gonna go there and buy pizza for us. Also three chocolate milkshakes. And you will reach back here before 8." Okay, that doesn't sound bad. I have Ty's car key with me. And I love pizza and chocolate milkshake. "Okay, Money??" I asked him. "You'll pay for it," he replied nonchalantly. "What!? I'm not paying for you. And..I don't have money," I scoffed shaking my head. I'm not gonna buy this jerk breakfast with my money. "Then you borrow from Ty. It's not my concern. Anyway, I want you to bring me the items I said before 8," he said blankly. Oh God What all do I need to do for this asshole snowball? The jerk then turned to his co-players. Most of them had arrived. "C'mon guys, let's start warm-up," he called clapping his hands. Not before long, I was running along with the basketballers, round and round the court. It was harder than I expected. I was totally tired and exhausted after just five rounds. I was panting and breathing hard. I wanted to sit back somewhere and rest. But the basketballers were running so effortlessly. None of them were actually panting. I somehow completed two more rounds, running side by side with the guys. But soon, I was starting to inch backward as my speed decreased involuntarily. All the guys who were behind me overtook me and soon I was far behind them. "Hey C'mon...speed up," Asher tilted his head and motioned to me. Fuck! I can't. I'm about to collapse at any moment. I stopped running and bend down holding my knees while panting loudly. But after a moment I felt a hand grab my wrist and drag me up. "C'mon run!" Asher ordered, proceeding to drag me with him. "I'm tired." I panted. "Oh C'mon..we barely jogged 20 minutes," he said pulling me. "I can't! Leave me!" I yelled pulling back, trying to yank my hands away. But his grip was tight around my wrist while an amused grin sat on his lips. That's it! I'm sending my special trojan into his laptop! He chuckled looking at me. "I can't believe you are tired already. But you weren't a bit tired yesterday when you ran out of Mr. Keating's classroom, dragging me along. So C'mon run! " "Hey!" A familiar sound rang in my ear. It was none else than Ty. He was running towards us from the other side of the court whilst frowning at Asher. Yeah c'mon Ty, save me from this monster. "Asher...why are you forcing her to run? Let her rest. She isn't used to jogging for long. She barely does any exercise," Ty said and Asher finally left my hands free while a smirk formed on his face. I know he's planning something inside that stupid head of his. Before I even started guessing what he is about to do, he turned to face Ty. "You know Ty, yesterday evening I was walking through the B block corridor. Then, when I reached Mr. Keating's Biology classroom, Caroline was... "Hey! Let's go run!" I shrieked cutting Asher off. "When you reached Mr. Keating's classroom, Caroline was? what happened?" Ty asked confused, his frown now directed towards me. "N..nothing happened. Let's run!" I panted out and grabbed Ty's hands. Then I started dragging him along with me, running away as far as possible from Asher while I was feeling totally nauseous. "What happened? Did you do something wrong?" Ty asked me. "N..no..nothing. I- I was just..er..I just thought to...uhm..pour some water on the floor and make Mr. Keating slip," "What!?" Ty shrieked grabbing my hands and stopping me. I breathed heavily, regretting what I just said. My head was almost rotating around my neck. "I didn't do anything. I- I just thought something like that for a moment." I panted. Ty sighed and then smiled at me. "Gosh, don't even think about doing something foolish like that." I nodded to him and he patted my head whilst smiling wide at me. "It's okay Carrie, I learned a lesson from it. Now, I'll be careful next time. And although Mr. Keating can be really harsh sometimes, he is a good teacher. I like him," My heart almost melted at his smile. Only Ty can be this sweet. "Okay, now you go and sit there. You look like you're gonna pass out," he said pointing at the sidesteps. I nodded, feeling relieved. Ty soon jogged away, continuing his lapse. I sighed and started walking towards the sidesteps. But my sight was blurry. My feet wobbled causing me to lose my balance and soon I was falling tripping on nothing but my own feet. I squeezed my eyes tight in fear, preparing myself for the worse fall as my body jerked forward. But then I felt myself colliding with someone. And the next moment when I opened my eyes, I found myself in Asher Carter's arms, my hands clutching his Jersey tightly. FUCK! ASHER!!! "Let go of me!" I shrieked and pushed him. He didn't budge but he took his hands away from my waist and I tumbled backward and fell down, flat on my bum. "There you go," he chuckled as I tried to suppress a wince. I tried to get up but I could only embarrassingly squirm, clutching my legs in pain. And he was smirking, standing straight in front of me with his hands crossed across his chest. Thankfully then Brent and Rhett came running to me and stretched their hands out, asking me whether I'm alright. I nodded as Brent pulled me up. I caught him shooting a glare in Asher's direction while I balanced myself on my feet, holding onto Rhett's arm for support. I could hardly feel my legs and I was afraid I'd fall down again at any moment. It had really been a long time since I ran like that and honestly, I've never run this long. Finally, Ty reached us, panting. "What happened? Are you alright?" He shrieked grabbing me. Now almost all the basketballers had crowded around me and were staring at me like I was some unique creature out of the zoo. "I'm fine," I nodded, suppressing a groan. The embarrassment was ten times bigger than the pain I could feel on my ass. And with my head almost spinning, I couldn't just run out and disappear from there. So, I let Ty help me to the side steps while all the basketballers stood staring at us. After resting for about ten minutes on the sidesteps, having to watch Asher Carter bossing his teammates around and proudly presenting his oh-so-fantastic basketball skills in front of me, smirking at me ever so often, I was finally done watching his pompous show. I stood up taking his pile of books and walked to the library. Once I returned the books, I started searching for the books on the list he gave me. Among the seven books, three of them were Mathematics textbooks, one was a history book and the last three were thriller novels. Luckily all the books were there in the library but it took me almost half an hour to find all the books. Once I issued them, I walked back to the basketball court and placed them on the sidestep. A serious match was happening on the court and the guys were so much immersed in the game that nobody probably saw me coming with the books. Also, I quickly left for the parking. I needed to go buy breakfast and then my task was over. It was only 7: 40 PM when I reached the cafe. I rushed to the counter and quickly ordered Pizza and milkshake. I'm literally buying food to feed my enemy. But I'll soon make him pay for everything together with interest. I know he did that at the basketball court in front of all those guys, just to embarrass me. And he succeeded. So, he is going to deal with a huge embarrassment soon! It took more than five minutes to get the order and once I got it, I rushed back to my car and drove back at the speed of lightning. Okay, I know that's not possible but I drove at the maximum speed to reach back to the basketball court before 8. And I reached back, panting at 7:58. Gosh! I did it!
