10. I can't believe he threatened you

The basketballers were all plopped down on the floor and the sidesteps when I arrived. Asher and Ty were lying in the middle of the court. They both sat up on seeing me with the parcel in my hands. Asher grinned as if impressed as I walked towards them. "What! You bought breakfast for us from outside?" Ty asked. I looked at Asher. I don't know whether one of the parcels is for me. "You bought food for me too?" Asher asked. I rolled my eyes at him and nodded. "Oh Caroline, that's so sweet of you. I don't like the breakfast from our canteen," Asher flashed a smile at me that was so not like him. "Oh..hmm...me too," I faked a giggle. "Wait! When did you guys become friends?" Ty asked confused and suspicious. "Just an hour ago when he caught me oh so amazingly and prevented me from breaking my ribs, that too risking his life and without even thinking he has a match coming next week. I should appreciate that, right?" I replied smiling. "Oh..he caught you? But I saw you lying on the floor." Ty said confused, not quite understanding the sarcasm in my words. "She told me to leave her. So, I did. I didn't think she would lose her balance again," Asher said and tilted his face to me. "I'm really sorry Caroline." You know, this is what I call smooth. Look how he completely altered the whole situation. "It's okay Asher. It's not your fault. You still saved me from a fatal accident," I said whilst rolling my eyes. "Wait! So, you guys finally became friends? Everything's solved?" Ty asked excitedly. I can't believe he is one of the top scorers in our grade. Can't he just sense what is going on? "I actually didn't have any problems with her," Asher said. "Yeah..yeah..me too," I nodded. He again flashed a smile at me. But this time, I couldn't quite catch the fakeness in it. But maybe it's because he is an expert at acting. It can't be like he is actually trying to become friends with me. And even if it's like that, I'll never accept a jerk's friendship. "I can't believe this!" Ty squealed. "C'mon..let's now go to the canteen and have the breakfast she brought," Asher said. I nodded and he stretched his hands for me to help him rise from the floor. I took his hand with a smile and pulled him up. Ty too got onto his feet, looking at us in awe. He was really surprised. Poor boy, he is gonna be so disappointed when he knows this was all fake. We walked to the canteen and had our breakfast whilst chatting. I felt suffocated faking myself in front of Ty, acting all friendly towards Asher. So, I finished my plate quickly and left soon saying I need to go to the library. Ty was looking a bit suspicious when I left. Maybe finally he understood I was acting. There was still a lot of time for the bell, so I decided to go to the locker room and find my lockers. I hadn't gone there yet. My locker number was 78 and I soon found it on reaching the locker room. I happily twisted the key and opened the door to see it was really spacious inside. Shrugging off my bag, I placed it inside the locker after taking the first two hours' book. "Hey!" A familiar voice said just as I closed the locker door. Smiling, I tilted my face to see the bunny boy standing two lockers away from me with a bright grin on his face. "So our lockers are also close," he said. I laughed. "Yeah, by the way you have good news." "What?" "Tyler Martin agreed to talk to you." "Really?" a surprised expression replaced his smile. "Yeah.." I nodded smiling. "You know how?" "How? What did you do?" He asked anxiously. Then I told him the whole thing that led to Ty agreeing to talk to him. "You kind of emotionally blackmailed him," he chuckled. My plan seemed to appeal to him a lot. "So he actually cares for me a little," he mumbled smiling. "So, when am I talking to him? I need to pretend like I'm going to change school, right?" "Yeah exactly. I'll ask him and tell you when you shall meet up." "Okay," he smiled enthusiastically. " Thanks a lot, Ann." "No need to thank me. But what about our video game? When are we gonna start working on it?" I asked. "I'm ready any time. We can start today itself. Let's meet at my home evening if that's okay with you," he said. "I'm fine with that. But first I need to ask Ty's Mom's permission," I said. "Oh..and you would need to tell Ty. And he is definitely not going to let you go to my house," he pressed his lips together. "I don't need his permission. But do you mind coming to my house?" I asked him. He tilted his face and looked at me chuckling. "That's even more impossible. Ty would never let me in. I've never come there after 6th grade." "Ty's parents wouldn't mind you coming home if I tell them we both are working on a project, right?" I asked. "Oh!" He looked at me, clearly amused. "Ty's Mom likes me. She actually wanted us to become friends again. But Ty will be so mad if you bring me there again." "He'll sure be mad. But it's gonna be okay. Anyway, not today. Let's think about it after you talk with him. Today if possible, let's meet at your home. I'll call aunt and see whether I can go." "Sure. But you better tell Ty too," he said and started taking his books out from his locker. At lunch break, I was hastily walking to the canteen to join Ty and team. It was more than five minutes since the bell rang and I knew I was going to face a long queue in front of the counter. I had fallen asleep in the physics class and only woke up when the bell rang. And then there was a whole big derivation on the board to copy down. Suddenly, I stopped as I passed the music club room. I could hear a melodic tune coming from inside and I realized it was the sound of a piano. I slowly moved to the windows and peaked inside to see Asher sitting in front of a piano put in the center of the room, tapping his fingers fast on the keys. But Asher's expression wasn't calm and soothing like the melody he was playing. He looked angry and frustrated. He was even cursing in between tapping the keys. His eyebrows were scrunched and he looked something like he was determined to reach a climax while still being so much disgusted about the process. Suddenly he started playing some fast notes repeatedly. It was like he was going crazy. His fingers could barely be seen hitting the keys. I couldn't help but frown looking at him. Why is he so disturbed? As I kept watching, he finally ended the fast music with a high note, almost instantly falling forward and resting his head on the stand of the piano. He was saying something, but I could barely hear anything or see his face now. I stood watching him for a few more seconds until I realized I'm going to get no lunch today if I don't rush. I quickly moved from the windows and started running to the canteen. Asher is probably angry cause he couldn't trouble me enough today. Maybe he was actually thinking about ways to trouble me and he was frustrated cause he couldn't get any nice idea. I should be really cautious from now on. "What took you so long?" Ty asked me as I finally sat down beside him with my lunch. They all had almost finished their plates. "Mr Thobe wouldn't stop even after the bell rings. There was a big derivation to copy down," I replied hurriedly starting to have my lunch "Caroline! You know what?" Mia asked in an excited tone, causing me to look up and frown at her. "Ty got full marks on the biology test!" She squealed, smiling widely. "Oh..Wow!" I responded with a bright smile and tilted my head to Ty. "So you had actually corrected your code?" I asked him, pretending surprised. "No, I think Mr. Keating did it for me. I hadn't changed the code," Ty shook his head. "I really don't believe Mr. Keating would do that," Rhett said. "I don't know. Anyway, I didn't change it. And that's not my handwriting. I think it's Mr. Keating. Who else can do it?" I chuckled and went back to having my lunch, letting them argue on whether Mr Keating would do it or not. It's a minute later while I was sipping on my drink that I remembered Aaron hadn't written the exam. "What about Aaron?" I instantly asked. And I regretted asking, as Mia looked up and shot me a glare. Rhett looked at Ty before answering my question. "That fool didn't write the exam. And Mr. Keating asked him to write the whole question and answers fifteen times. And he'll be given '0' for internals." Uh-oh! That's really bad. Anyway, I didn't make any comment on that and thankfully Nobody bothered to ask me about my friendship with Aaron. After lunch, I asked Ty in private, when he'd meet Aaron. He said, he doesn't have evening practice today but he'll meet Aaron at the basketball court after class. I suggested they better meet at the canteen or a cafe outside but he said the court was enough. I didn't press him any further. After he left for his next hour, I called his Mom and got her permission to go to Aaron's house. Actually, I told her I'm going to a friend's house to work on our chemistry assignment. Didn't tell her about the video game or Aaron. But I can't hide the truth from Ty. Or he would feel hurt when he finally knows. Guess, I'll tell him evening. Last hour I had Geography. I and Aaron sat together in the back row. Aaron was really anxious and restless the whole hour because he was finally going to talk to Ty after class. Ty had asked me to tell him to meet him at the basketball court in the evening. They didn't have practice today. As soon as the bell rang, Aaron got up from his seat and rushed out of the class after I wished him good luck. I didn't yet confirm him whether I was going to his house or not. Cause I didn't tell Ty about it yet and to admit honestly, I'm a bit scared to tell him and I'm even more scared to go without his approval. I'm sure he won't let me go. He wasn't even ready to meet with Aaron at the canteen like I suggested. He said the basketball court was enough and he wasn't going to listen to Aaron for more than five minutes. But I really hope this meeting will go well and this would finally wipe away all the misunderstanding. I sighed grabbing my stuff and throwing them into my bag. The girl who was sitting at the desk near me was looking at me, more like glaring at me. Probably she has a crush on Aaron and she didn't like me sitting along with him. For two days I've been hearing girls mumbling behind my back, things like I'm behind Aaron and I want to get into his pants. I didn't bother to give anyone any reply. Cause I've more important things to spend my energy on. So, I ignored the girl who was glaring at me and walked out of the class in direction of the library for detention. Today was Friday, which means the last day of detention. I felt relieved as I walked out of the library after an hour. I finished all ten essays and I just need to submit them at the principal's table on Monday. I really hope I won't have to come here again after class. But not sure since Asher Carter is still alive and very much sound. I fished my phone from my pocket and switched it on. Soon it started to vibrate as notifications hit it one after another. There were messages from Aaron and Ty. I quickly opened Aaron's message which was sent to me just five minutes ago. 'I don't think Ty would let you go to my house. And I don't think we can ever work on the video game together. It would be better if you find someone else to be your partner.' Shit! So, the whole meeting just screwed things up. What actually happened? Before I could text Aaron back, my phone rang showing 'Ty' on caller ID. "I'm waiting for you at the parking. Come fast," Ty said as soon as I picked up the call. "Okay," I replied and ended the call, quickly rushing towards the parking. Ty was standing, leaning against his car when I reached there. He proceeded to walk round to the driver's seat on seeing me. "Wait! Did you talk to Aaron?" I asked walking toward him. "Yeah and I don't want to talk about that," he said pulling open the driver's seat door. "Okay then wait! I'm not coming home with you. You can go." I suddenly decided I was going to Aaron's house, no matter what. I need to know what happened. Ty turned to me scrunching his eyebrows. "Where are you going?" So, Aaron hasn't told him about the video game? "I'm going to Aaron's house," I replied. "What! Aaron's house!", he scoffed in surprise. "Why are you going to Aaron's house?" "I and Aaron are participating in the video game designing competition in IT fest. So to start working on it. I already called your Mom and asked her permission." "When did you plan this? Why didn't you tell me? And why the hell is Aaron your partner? You couldn't find anyone else?" he asked, his face furious. "We just planned it today afternoon." I lied. "I found Aaron is good at drawing and graphic designing. So I thought to ask him to be my partner. You know he is one among the very few people I know in this school. Besides he has also taken computer science like me," I replied. "But Aaron didn't tell me about it while we talked," he said, his eyes narrowing further. "He probably felt, you won't let me go to his house. And I think you didn't let him speak anything." I said. "We were talking until ten minutes ago! I let him talk, although I didn't believe most of the things he said," he said clearly exasperated. "And Mom let you go to his house?" I don't know whether I should tell him the truth or not. If I lie, he would realize it as soon as he reaches back home. Then Aunt would also know I lied. "Actually, I said I'm going to work on my chemistry project with my partner. Didn't say about the video game competition," I replied. "You lied to her!" he stated clearly unimpressed. "She wouldn't have let you go if she knew. So, listen, you aren't going. And it's not even a week since you met him. What do you know about Aaron?" "I know he is good at graphics and animation. I think that's enough knowledge I need about him in order to work together on this project." "I said you aren't going after lying to my Mom. So, shut up and just get inside the car." "I'd have told the truth if it was my Mom. I don't know what your Mom would think if she knows I'm going to work on a video game with a guy," I said scratching my chin in frustration. "Look, I'll let you participate in the competition with anyone, but Aaron. So, find someone else," he said. "C'mon Ty, you play with Asher every day. I'm okay with it, although I hate him. What's your problem with me working along with Aaron? Do you think we are going to end up on bed?" His hands instantly fisted into balls and his features became extremely furious. "So, today morning why did you say you don't have any problem with Asher? Why you bought him breakfast? What was all that?" He scoffed. "Didn't you understand, I was just acting?" I sneered back angrily. "Why?" he asked, now a bit calm. "Nothing..." I shrugged my shoulder. "Say why Caroline!" he sneered. "He threatened me that he would report to the principal, it was me who keyed his car and get me suspension if I don't buy him breakfast, behave nicely to him and do everything he says. He made me run, made me buy food for him, and made me return and issue a lot of books from the library for him. And yesterday at home, he threatened me, he would tell your parents that I got detention," I scoffed and let out a sigh. "What!" Ty uttered unbelievably. He was silent for the next few seconds and he looked like he was thinking deeply. "See, you don't believe, right?" I asked. "No..I saw him taking out a big pile of books this morning and giving his Id card to you. I was confused but I just didn't ask you about it in front of him. What all is happening? Why didn't you tell me about this earlier?" he asked. "You won't believe me. You trust Asher more than me," I said crossing my hands over my chest. He sighed as if in frustration. "Do you believe me now?" I asked. "I can't believe Asher threatened you. I can't understand what's happening. But look, Carrie, I trust you. Tell me the truth. I'm asking you once again. Are you the one who keyed his car?" he asked staring into my eyes. I felt nervous. I wanted to tell the truth. But if I tell the truth now, he would only stand with Asher. So, I shook my head. After all, I'm not the one who keyed his car. Ty nodded briefly and then brushed his hair backward in frustration. "Ty, can I please go to Aaron's house? I'll be back before 8," I asked him for the last time, making a pleading look. I know this won't work, but.. "Okay." he nodded surprising me. "I'll drop you at his house." Then he opened the driver's seat door and hopped in. My mouth almost dropped open. Why this sudden change? The next moment I was jumping and squealing. "Thank you so much, Ty. You are such a nice brother. I love you," I squealed hopping into the passenger seat. Ty left a sigh and turned the key in the ignition, pulling the car out of the lot. So, afterall I guess his talk with Aaron didn't go too bad.
