Chapter Three

1387 Words
Neo’s POV — This morning “Hey, Alpha! A letter came for Beta Cameron’s daughter today. The note on it says it was sent here for Skylar to keep it safe for her, and it's from the Vampire Queen…” Royal says, confused. It’s odd that her mail would come here, unless the vampire queen is aware of something we’re not. “Ok, bring it to my office, and I’ll put it in a safe spot,” I reply, confused. “I just wanted to give you a heads-up as well. There is a call scheduled with The Wild Rose Pack in twenty minutes.” “You know what’s funny?” Jax chuckles, shaking his head. “I swear, Royal acts like we’re clueless about what’s happening in our daily lives and pack.” We require an exit strategy should this alliance dissolve. There’s a negative intuition concerning Mason’s pack. ‘That’s the strategy. I can’t help but hold a peculiar intuition regarding the motive behind his desire for the alliance,’ I express with a sigh. “After arriving at my office this morning, I wasted no time in signing the alliance paperwork that was sent to me. I even added an extra clause to the document to strengthen our position.” I informed Royal, experiencing a sense of pride for my efforts, that it was a bit of a challenge, but I’m glad I could get it done. “What did you add to the clause?” Royal inquires with interest. “Hey, I’ll give you more details once the meeting is over. By the way, are you and Axel already on your way? I need to get in touch with Mason,” I inquire, addressing my Beta and Gamma. After I concluded my speech, an unexpected rap on my office door startled me. With no delay, Gamma Axel enters the room, seating himself on the plush chairs positioned in front of my imposing desk. Before the start of our meeting, I reach out to Cameron with a succinct message, urging him to contact me at his earliest convenience. With eagerness to connect with Mason, I dial his number on my office phone. Without interruption, I transfer the call to speakerphone, ensuring a fluid and efficient conversation. “Morning! How’s everything going on your end?” Mason greets him with a joyful demeanor. His voice grates on my last f*****g nerve. Like nails against a f*****g chalkboard. “Can I eat him?” Jax demands. “No, not until we have a thorough understanding of what’s happening with his pack, and we remove Beta Cameron and his family.” “Hey there, Alpha Mason, how’s it going? We’re all good on our end,” I inquire in a friendly tone. “And how about you, everything alright?” “Everything is quiet as of right now. By the way, I’m just curious if you’ve reviewed the alliance paperwork that was sent over,” Mason inquires. “Absolutely. I’ve completed everything, and I’ve signed the document; it’s ready. I will arrange for one of my warriors to deliver it later today or tomorrow. However, I was thinking, maybe we should hold off on having my warriors come until after the upcoming Tamsin moon.” “I mean, the last thing we need is our warriors getting into unnecessary conflicts during the mating moon, right?” I ask in a serious tone. Emphasizing the importance of avoiding any potential disputes among the packs during this crucial time. “Yes, that should be fine. Unless something comes up, we look forward to hearing from you soon,” Mason replies as we say our goodbyes and hang up. *** "So … the clause? Is it going to piss off Mason?" Royal asks with excitement. “I have developed a strong bond with Beta Cameron for quite some time, and I have been trying to persuade him and his family to join our pack for years now. However, he is hesitant because he would rather not disrupt Skyler’s life. So, in the agreement, I clarified that if Beta Cameron and his family decide to leave The Wild Rose Pack, our alliance would be void.” I say with a smirk as I wait for Cameron to call me. “Make sure you inform Beta Cameron as soon as possible before Mason gets his hands on the alliance papers. Trust me,” Axel says with excitement, “things are going to get chaotic if he’s not as clueless as he appears and reads through the documents.” My phone springs to life with a melodious ringtone, and a smile spreads across my face in a split second as I divert my attention towards it. To my delight, it’s Cameron calling, and I couldn’t help but experience a surge of happiness. With no delay, I answered the call and greeted him with a heartfelt welcome, “It’s been so long, my dear friend! How are you and your family doing?” “We have been getting by,” Cameron says with a sigh. “Things have been getting tense here with Skylar.” “Cameron, I want you to know that things might worsen, so it’s important to remain vigilant. I have fulfilled my promise by signing the alliance contract. However, there is also a clause included that specifies that if you and your family choose to depart from your pack, the alliance will become void. So, please remember and be wary.” “Oh s**t, I hope he doesn’t notice the paperwork or bother to look at it until after the Tamsin moon. Skyler must discover her soulmate by then,” Cameron anxiously expresses. “My pack is one phone call away, Cameron. We will not stand by and let anything happen to you or your family.” I told him. “I will make sure that my border patrol is on alert in case you and your family need to run here for safety. Just keep me informed, please.” ‘Yes, we will protect them with our lives. They are family and no one messes with my family.’ Jax yells, pissed off. ‘Calm, Jax, we are there for them when they need us. Cameron will call me if he needs our help as soon as he gets the chance.’ I say reported. “Thanks for the heads-up. I need to get going. I have some work to get done before Skyler gets home, and we begin training.” “Take care, dear friend. We will talk later. I have to get some things done around here as well before I head to bed.” I reply before we say our goodbyes and hang up. *** “Hey Royal, would you mind doing me a favor and going and checking out the training grounds? I want to see how our warriors are progressing. I’m planning on sending some of our newer recruits and keeping the rest with our pack after the Tamsin moon,” I say, glancing at him. “Sure thing, Alpha! I’ll make my way over there right away and join them for some training, too.” Royal responded, getting up from his seat and striding towards the door. “Hey Axel, I need you to have a serious conversation with our border patrol. Let them know they should be on high alert in case Beta Cameron and his family need to escape and seek refuge in our pack lands. We don’t want them to be vulnerable to any attacks while trying to enter our territory.” I request. “Well, Alpha, that’s what I had in mind ever since you introduced changes to the contract,” Axel declares as he rises from his seat and exits the room. ‘Can we run tonight? I need to run some of this frustration off before I end up blowing up on our pack instead of Mason.’ Jax requests. Feeling the need for a break, I rise from my seat and glance out the window, only to discover that darkness has already settled in. With this realization, I decide to make my way towards the back porch before I undress. I transform into my Lycan Jax, ready to go on a hunting adventure to secure our supper for the night.
