Chapter Five

769 Words
Neo’s POV - The Next Day “Hey Alpha, just wanted to give you a heads-up. We've got some Rogues lurking around six miles away,” Axel informs through the mind link. “Beta Cameron reached out to me earlier. He effectively removed their leader, resulting in the remaining members of the pack scattering in this direction during the previous night.” “Make sure all the warriors are ready. We’re going on a hunt,” I assert with assurance as I stride towards the grounds. “Of course, Alpha!” Axel responds with excitement. As I arrive at the grounds, I take a momentary break, allowing myself a chance to closely examine every one of these brave individuals. I assertively speak up, my voice filled with unwavering determination, as I address the assembled group. “Today, I am seeking a small, elite group of individuals who will stand beside me in the crucial task of eradicating the five dangerous Rogues that pose a threat to our pack. The safety and security of our territory depend on the rest of you, who must remain here and guard our home with great care.” “Why do we need to take anyone? We can handle this ourselves,” Jax says, annoyed. “It is imperative to recognize that we cannot achieve everything on our own, and in times of war, it is essential to have all hands on deck,” I exclaim. “For this upcoming round, I have brought along four extremely skilled warriors and four trainees. This way, all of you will witness and gain valuable field experience before most of you begin on your journey to The Wild Rose Pack after the Tamsin moon.” I explain, casting my gaze over the assembled group. “Attention to all trainees who have yet to gain field experience. We request you to come forward. I am searching for my most skilled pair of warriors and my least skilled pair of warriors,” I announce to the group. As soon as they take a step forward, I promptly realize that we have only four trainees who have yet to experience the field, making it a straightforward task. Meanwhile, my other skilled warriors are already positioned beside them. “Alright, the eight of you will accompany me. Make sure you're ready and back here within twenty minutes,” I inform them, shifting my attention to the remaining warriors. “During our absence, I suggest that half of you engage in training while the other half patrols the grounds. After two hours, switch roles so that everyone has time to do both. This way, we can be prepared in case the Rogues decide to come our pack's way,” I inform them. “Sure thing, Alpha,” they all chime in unison, seamlessly dividing themselves into two distinct groups. Their primary aim is to ensure a perfect blend of trainees and seasoned warriors within each group. I pivot on my heels and make my way towards the expansive training field, surrendering control to Jax as I transform into his form. Together, we remain stationary, our senses heightened. Carefully examining the surroundings for any unusual sounds or signs of the elusive rogues. “Yes! At last, I can feel the wind rushing through my hair as I run!” Jax exclaims with pure exhilaration. The training grounds become a hub of activity as the warriors arrive, each one shifting into their Lycan form before joining the group. They stand together, ready and alert for the upcoming hunt. Jax scans the area, his eyes searching for any signs of readiness before he poses the question, “Is everyone prepared to depart?” “Affirmative, Alpha,” they all say in unison as we venture into the woods to track down the Rogues. With haste, we made our way to the location where Cameron and his daughter had been training the night before. Abruptly, we halted. The smell of decay overwhelmed us as we looked down and saw the motionless body of the pack's leader. Jax approaches the corpse and sniffs around, hoping to catch a whiff of any scent that could lead us to the rest of the pack. Sadly, all he smelt was the noxious smell of death and earth. Jax hurriedly asserts “that there is no discernible odor.” Our only course of action is to divide into pairs and establish a mind-link communication whenever we encounter any potential leads. “We must refrain from initiating any attacks until the entire group has assembled at the designated location,” Jax states.
