CHAPTER 42
Chief Inspector Templeton was looking out of his office window across to Big Ben wondering which nursery outfit to wear later that evening, the yellow or the pink.
Kay Carpenter had promised him “a special” and it had been on his mind all morning. His concentration was broken with a knock on his office door. DC Ralph Ballon walked in.
“It looks like we have got a result, guv. We’ve found the American – Tom Cody.”
“So he’s back from Japan?” asked Templeton.
“He is, but I bet he wished he’d stayed there. A couple of dock workers found him this morning in a warehouse in docklands nailed to the floor by his d**k!”
The senior man winced.
“Is he dead?”
“He’s in a bad way, but no. The docs over at the Homerton Hospital reckon he will survive. Probably won’t father any kids thou
