Chapter 1 - Kane's POV

Kane was restless. His wolf, Lord, was restless. This hasn't happened before. He stepped out on the terrace. The view was breathtaking as always. The trees were dancing before him to the tune of the soft morning breeze that was blowing. As a new day was unfolding in Wolfsbane, he inhaled the crisp air and reminded himself that he was Kane Douglas, the King of all the werewolves in the world. Feared and respected. He will find her and the moment he does, he is going to claim her whether she wants it or not. And then he will have enough power to revolutionize his kingship. He was very ambitious and determined and always had to have his way.

At almost 35 years of age, Kane Douglas was 6.2 feet tall. His hair was short and pitch black, his eyes were brown and emotionless, he had manly features and a muscular body.

After he took a quick shower, he put on a pair of black jeans and a navy blue t-shirt. He mind linked Roan, his Beta to see if he arrived at the pack house. After an affirmative answer he took the elevator straight to the garage. As the doors were opening he could see Roan smiling and making a bow to greet him. Even if they were the best of friends, Roan still showed respect to him as his Alpha and King. This 6 feet tall, blonde haired, blue eyed wolf was his military commander, his advisor, his most faithful and trusted friend. They have been inseparable ever since they were pups and becoming leaders only made their bond stronger.

,, Good morning Roan. ''

,, Good morning Kane. Have you had breakfast yet?

Kane smiled. Of course that would be the first question of the day. Roan loved to eat. A lot.,, No, but we could stop at Oma and Opa's. We can grab something there. '' Kane replied.

,, That makes me very happy. We are off to a great start today! '' Roan exclaimed as they were getting in their jeep.

When they got to,, Oma and Opa's'' the place was packed with customers. And it smelled amazing. They always had a table reserved for them, so they sat down and before they knew it, Oma was there. She greeted them with a big warm smile.

,, My handsome boys! Good morning! Let me properly feed you and then you can go out and about to your business. ''

,, You are the perfect woman Oma Betty! '' Roan exclaimed in a pure state of happiness.,, I want your morning special, double order please. A black coffee, no sugar. Oh and if you have some cake, I would love a piece. No, two! So I can make it to lunch safely. '' he concluded.

Kane was smiling and so was Oma.,, Thank you dear Roan. I am flattered by your compliment! How about you Alpha Kane, what can I get you? ''

,, I would like bacon, scrambled eggs and a big cup of black coffee. If you have blueberry muffins I want two. '' replied Kane.

,, Noted. I will be right back with your order! '' Oma replied as she turned to go to the kitchen.

,, So, have you thought about that invitation? Are we going? "Roan asked Kane.

,, Yes, we are. I would like to investigate Alpha Frederick's recent pack member growth. If he keeps this up, he will be the leader of the second largest pack in the world, thus he could try something to disturb the peace I so carefully created. I would like to know a possible enemy better. '' Kane replied.

,, I am sure he is attacking small packs or at least threatening them with war so they could merge. I will make all the necessary preparations so we can leave tomorrow. How long are we staying? "

,,A week would be enough to do some silent research." Kane replied. "If we find out he is conducting shady business, what is our next move?",, According to our international laws, we strip him of his title and I take over until a new Alpha is appointed. ",, That would be quite the situation. I hope he is aware of what could happen. "concluded Roan as Oma approached with their breakfast.

The rest of the day was quite busy with them visiting a few factories and a farm. During a late lunch they discussed the final details of their trip.

,,We should take another plane with warriors, secretly.’’Roan proposed.

,,That is not a bad idea. We should be in contact with neighboring packs too that might lend a helping hand, just in case.’’Kane added.

,, Security-wise, I am not sure it is safe that so many people know we are there. Alpha Tate might still be a little upset about that fine we imposed on his lands and since he is so unpredictable he might cause trouble for the Dark Moon Pack….’’Roan continued.

,,Perhaps. We are in very good relations with the Moon Star Pack though, let Alpha Gregor know we are visiting the vicinity, maybe even set up a meeting between old friends.’’Kane suggested.

,,It would be nice to see Alpha Gregor while we are there. I bet he can tell us what is going on in the area with the packs.’’ Roan agreed.

,, Exactly...all is settled then. We are good to go?’’ asked Kane.

,,Yes, Beta Anton replied and said they would be honored to receive our party and they are proposing a visiting schedule, some official dinners and one of Alpha Frederick’s sons is having his mating party to which we are invited. ‘’

,,How many sons does Alpha Frederick have?’’ Kane interrupted.

,,Five sons. Three found their mate and moved to Europe. Matei is the one with the mating party and the youngest I know nothing of. Nobody seems to know anything else but the fact that he exists. If we take into consideration Matei’s age, he shouldn’t be older than 23.’’ Roan clarified.

,, How strange. I guess we will find out. I am assuming one of the two will be Alphas when he decides to retire…’’

,, If he ever retires...’’Roan cut him off. They both grinned and continued with their lunch.

,, I will go have some fun''Kane said smirking.

,, I am sorry to question your decision, but shouldn't you get some rest before the trip... "Roan replied.

,, I will rest on the plane, we have a 5 hour flight." Kane said as he dismissed him.

,, All work and no play makes Kane a dull boy. "Roan pointed.

" You can always join me... "Kane offered, but Roan opted for a nice dinner with his family.

,, Goood morning Alpha Kane! '' Ahh those words kept echoing in his sleep.

,, Wakey wakey!! '' Aahh, and again!! What a nightmare he was having!

,, Alpha!! Please wake up! This is Roan! Did you drink all the liquor in the club last night? I need to come pick you up! ''

Kane woke up all sweaty and numb, realizing that he was in a hotel room and next to him was still sleeping a naked woman.,, Hmpf so last night wasn't a complete waste. '' he thought. He didn't remember much, but she was naked so the right thing must have happened. He answered Roan and told him he can pick him up. After he took a quick shower he left the room with the woman still sleeping. It dawned on him that he didn't remember her name, or he didn't even ask her, but her body was what he was after so that made no difference. He told the reception to put all expenses on his tab and left. As he was exiting the hotel, women were admiring him causing a smirk to appear on his face. Roan was already there waiting.,, Alpha'' he greeted him while bowing his head. Kane nodded in acceptance as he got in the car.

,, What was the rush?'' he asked Roan.

,, You father had another crissis." he answered.

,, Fu*k. How bad was it Roan?How is mother?"

,, It wasn't as bad as the others, she is fine but I really think she needs help, at least sometimes. "he replied, concern all over his face. Kane clenched his fist thinking of their suffering as mates.

When he arrived, his father was sleeping peacefully with Adaline by his side.

,, Mother. '' Kane called her.,, We need to talk." ,, Yes dear. " They stepped outside the room. Using his Alpha willpower, Kane informed his mother that she will get help in taking care of his father.,, I will be gone for a week with business, the pack witch will be housed here while I am away and Roan's mother will be helping you with father until my return. " Adaline nodded in acceptance as she hugged her son goodbye. ,,Have a safe trip and may the Goddess be with you!" she wished him.,, Thank you mother. " he replied and left for the airport.
