I wake up to phone alarm the following Monday morning.
Today we just choose our lockers and pick up our schedules.
So, I’m not going to dress up in anything all fancy-like.
Once I get out of bed, I decided to put on my purple Nike Pros spandex shorts, and Charles’ black Nike cotton t-shirt, with some black flip flops. And after brushing my hair, I decided to leave it down.
I grab my phone and car keys and then walked out of my room.
“Oh Marissa, I’m so proud of you, being the captain of the dance team, also the youngest captain that team has ever had is a great opportunity for you.” I hear my mother say on her phone.
“Thank you, mama, well I got to go, class is about to start soon, I just wanted to let you know, my coach announced it last night.” I hear Marissa say.
“I am so proud of you baby; I’ll make sure to tell your daddy later on today when he gets off of work.” My mama says.
“Okay bye.” My sister says then hangs up.
I walk into the kitchen to see my mom sitting on a stool that is around our kitchen island.
“Oh, there you are sweetie, didn’t you hear? Marissa is dance team captain, and she is only twenty years old.” My mom says whilst giving me a big smile.
“Oh, that’s cool.” I tell her.
I walked up to our fruit basket and grab a whole red apple and put it under the kitchen sink faucet and give it a good rinse.
“Where are you going? Actually, what are you wearing?” My mama asks me whilst eyeing my outfit.
“Um to get my schedule.” I tell her whilst taking a bite from my apple.
“Oh okay, that shirt makes you look fat by the way so next time get something that is actually your size alright?” She asks me.
“Yeah okay.” I sighed then threw my apple away and started to walk towards the front door.
“Your sister Marissa actually cares about her appearance!!” My mama shouts.
“I don’t give a damn!!” I shouted back at her then open the front door.

“Wow, you looked pissed off.” Serena says once I meet up with her outside our commons/cafeteria.
“I’d rather not talk about it.” I sighed.
Serena nods and then we both walk inside the cafeteria.
I go in the A’s-D’s line, whilst Serena goes to the E’s-I’s line, since her last name starts with an H.
“Last name?” A girl asks me.
“Carmichael.” I say.
“Okay here you go.” The girl says whilst handing me my schedule.
I get out of line and look at it.
1st period- AP Spanish
2nd period- English IV honors
3rd period- Calculus
4th period- U.S Government honors
5th period- Chemistry honors
LUNCH
6th period- Humanities
7th period- Ceramics
“Wow, I’m such a geek.” I hear Serena say standing next to me, whilst her eyes are still looking on her schedule.
I take a picture of my schedule and send it to Charles.
I then look over at Serena’s schedule.
“At least we have 1st and 5th period together.” I explained to her.
I then get a text from Charles saying that we have 3rd and 6th period together, making me send him a smiley face emoji.
“Yeah that’s good.” I chuckled.
“And the same lunch.” She grins.
I just laugh.

“Oh my gosh.” I groan whilst watching Serena decorate her locker.
I forgot to buy some decorating crap.
“What’s wrong?” She asks me.
“I forgot to get some things for my locker.” I frowned.
I see Serena look behind me smiling.
This makes me confused and turn around to see my boyfriend Charles, carrying a white plastic Target bag.
“Hey beautiful, I got you some things for your locker.” He says whilst handing me the Target bag and giving me a kiss on my cheek.
“Thank you.” I tell him whilst taking it.
I look through it and pick up two Polaroid pictures of us.
Making me grin and look up at him.
“Those two are my favorite.” He tells me returning my grin.
“Mine too.” I tell him.
One of them was a picture of me sitting on his lap sideways where my right hip was touching his back, and we both are smiling at the camera and it was at a Texas Tech football game.
The other one was him carrying me bridal style at our junior prom, and we both are smiling at the camera.
“So, want to come over for dinner tonight?” Charles asks me.
I put tape on the back of pictures and put them on the inside of my locker door.
“Yeah sure, what’s for dinner?” I ask him whilst grabbing a small squared mirror with a black frame.
“Crab legs.” He whispers in my ear.
“Ooh yay.” I say happily like I’m a f*****g five-year-old child seeing Mickey Mouse at Disney World for the first time.
Oh, I never ever have been there.
This makes Charles laugh.
“I’ll pick you up at 4:30 sharp this evening.” He chuckles.
“See you then.” I say with a grin.
Making him laugh again.
He then walks away.
“Gosh you two are so cute.” Serena sighs dreamily.
Making me laugh and shake my head.
Making me laugh and shake my head.
I then continue to decorate my locker, by putting in that shelf thingy.
You know, where you put your textbooks lined up on top of it and then there’s room on the bottom of it for really anything.
“Why thank you.” I chuckled.

I put my hair in a side Dutch braid, whilst I’m wearing some dark skinny jeans, and a beige colored tank top. And some tan flip flops.
I have a whole bunch of flip-flops, because I’m obsessed with them.
I grab my phone and then get out of my bedroom and walk down my stairs, but not before I see people taking pictures of Marissa’s bedroom, and my mama posing in front of the cameras.
This made me scoff and roll my eyes.
But I kept to myself, and walked down my stairs, and then got out onto my front porch and sat down on one of the rocking chairs.
I start to go on my phone and go on Twitter.
I then hear a honk and look up to see it’s my boyfriend of nineteen months, in his 2014 four door dark grey Toyota Tacoma pulled in front of my house.
I got up and walked up to the passenger side, and he reached over and opened the door for me.
“Whew, am I just the luckiest guy on the planet?” He says grinning.
I blush and slide on in.
“Why thank you.” I say trying to keep my blushing down.
And then we drove off.
At least he lives in the next street over, in the same neighborhood.
“What’s wrong babe?” He asks me whilst giving me a quick glance and then looking forward again.
“I was just walking by Marissa’s room, and I saw a whole bunch of photographers from a magazine in there taking pictures.” I say whilst putting my phone faced down onto my lap.
“Well does your mom know you’re coming over for dinner?” He asks me.
“Nah, she won’t care.” I sighed.
“I mean, she was the one in front of the cameras.” I scoffed.
“Want to sleepover then?” He asks me.
“Yeah that sounds like a good idea.” I explained.
Whenever I’m having a hard time at home, Charles always let’s me spend the night at his home.
I’m basically his parents adoptive child.
