“I’m not sure what you’re trying to say.” My mama says with a sigh. “To come to my showcase, you went to Marissa’s dance one.” I explained to my mama whilst we both are sitting in our living room. “Oh, we’ll see honey, that weekend is parents’ weekend, and we need to show Marissa some support.” My mama explains. “But why mama? She’s far away.” I say exasperated. This woman. “Sorry Macie, but I’ll be there for your senior night.” She says whilst giving me a small smile. “Yeah oka“Do you really need that? Marissa hardly eats cookies.” My mama said whilst getting up and rolling her eyes.  “Yeah I do.” I just say, and then grab two more cookies just to make her even more annoyed by it. Then I get out of there and go up into my bedroom. Once I make it in my bedroom, I shut my door and then turn on my rose gold MacBook. I sighed when my phone buzzed and see that I got this month’s work schedule. My hours are part-time hours obviously, but once I turn eighteen, they still need to stay part-time. I need to make money, but also want a good High School experience. I work at the Hollister store, with Serena. And Charles works as a delivery driver for Papa John’s. I then lay down on my bed, on my tummy and began finishing up my favorite show of all time, Grey’s Anatomy. “Ah my not so little girl Marissa, a captain of her team.” I hear my daddy sigh so happily outside my door. I hate that my room is right next to Marissa’s. “I just posted about it all over my f*******:, and our family is so proud.” I hear my mama explain. This made me roll my eyes. We all have that golden child, or favorite cousin of the entire family. And my older sister Marissa, just so happens to be that one. “Lunch is ready, so grab our other daughter and let’s eat.” My mama orders my daddy. I then hear her leaving and my door opens with my daddy popping his head in. “Let’s go.” Was all he said and then closed my door. I sighed and paused my show and grabbed my phone.   ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~  “I think they did a splendid job.” My mama gushes whilst looking on her phone. I just rolled my eyes.  But continued to eat my salad. “Oh Macie, from now on, I’m going to make you stick to a vegan diet.” My mama explains not even looking up at me. But continuing to show my dad all the pictures on her phone. “Why?” I ask my mom agitated. “Because, Marissa is a vegan.” My mama just says. Just because she’s a vegan, does not mean I have to be one. “So? Mama, she’s been one since she was thirteen.” I sighed. Marissa started doing dance ever since she was six years old, and beauty pageants ever since she was thirteen. And she then started being a vegan since she was thirteen years old, thanks to her beauty pageant coach, Lorraine. But I’ve been doing cheer since forever, I’m skinny, I’m healthy and fine. “Yeah, I just want us to do it as a family, I feel bad that Marissa has to do it all alone.” My mama says with a frown. “Then you can do it with her, I’ll stick to my diet now.” I explained. I just am not comfortable with making changes to my diet.  “Oh well, you’re going to be fat if you keep this up.” My mama just explains now putting her phone away and eating her salad. “Well last time I checked I weighed 59 pounds.” I tell her truthfully. “That’s too many pounds, Marissa is 43 pounds, you need to lose more weight if you want to be just like her.” My mama explains. “Oh Charles’ dad posted on f*******: about Charles’ new football uniform, and may I say it looks pretty damn good.” My dad randomly says. “Yeah my coach wanted our cheer uniforms to be the same colors as the men’s new football uniform.” I say to them after swallowing my lettuce. My parents both just give me blank stares. Then look down and continue to eat their lunch. “That’s great hon.” Was all my mama says. Making me sigh and continue to eat my food silently.   ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ “I should come over.” Charles tells me over the phone. “No, it’s okay, tomorrow is the first day of school, you’ll be too tired.” I explained. “But you had bad day.” He sighs. “Its fine, listening to your voice helps me out a lot.” I tell him. “Alright babe, I’ll come over tomorrow after practice okay?” He asks me. I just nodded my head even though he can’t see me. “Yeah okay.” I sighed, whilst leaning back against the wall. Charles was at his team’s car wash all day today. And he just got out of the shower and sounds tired, but still is talking to me. Gosh I love this guy. “I love you, and I’ll see you tomorrow.” He tells me. “I love you too, and okay babe.” I tell him back. Then I hang up on him, and then plug my phone in to charge. I look at the time, and it’s only 6 pm. “Oh Macie?” I hear my mom ask me. I see her walking in my room, carrying a glass smoothie looking thing. “This is a meal placement shake, so instead of dinner, you’ll be drinking this to control that weight of yours.” My mama explains whilst smiling at me and then handing the glass to me. “Thanks mama.” I say taking it from her. She gives me a playful wink, and then leaving my bedroom. Gosh the last first day of high school is tomorrow. And I hope this will be a good year for me.
