Chapter 1
Claire’s POV
My hands were trembling, my heart palpitating and my whole world came crashing down as I read the letter from my late sister's friend. Anna is dead! They killed her. I froze as her last sentence in the latter sent shivers down my spine.
I couldn't believe that my sister is no more. I wondered what she meant by they killed her. Who? A question I couldn't get answers to. I quickly turned the back of the latter and it wasn't finished. I continue reading, “Claire please you have to stay far away from them. Please don't go anywhere close to those people, they are evil. That's Anna's last wish, that you stay safe. I don't know if this letter is going to get to you, but if it does, just know that I am also no more.”
I couldn't fathom what was going on. What happened to my sister? Who killed her? I wondered as lots of questions I couldn't get answers came flooding my head. I couldn't think straight as tears streamed down my cheeks as I screamed and cried at the top of my voice. My tears are of no impact, it wouldn't undo what has been done. Anna is no more!
They took my only sister, my only family away from me. Anna never told me anything, she's always secretive and always tries to hide her pain from me. Since our parents died, we just had each other. We struggled to fend for ourselves.
I worked out my arse day and night to make sure I fed myself and Anna, but Anna was persistent that she wanted to work. It's cold out there in the city of California, and I know how dangerous it is for young girls who are vulnerable, so I was solely against it, but Anna pushed through to look for a job. She was so determined.
Suddenly I received a call from her, she had gotten a job in a bar. It was a very big and expensive bar where billionaires come to spend their night. I wasn't okay with her working in a bar, but the pay was huge and tempting. I tried everything possible to stop her from taking the job, but she didn't listen to me.
She had to work at night and rarely comes home. After a few months of working there something changed about Anna. Whenever she comes home, she is sad and moody, and sometimes she returns with a scar all over her body, and when I ask her what happened she would lie to me. She refused to tell me anything.
After that, Anna didn't return home for days, and I became worried. I later got a letter from her, saying she now works at a penthouse, but she didn't disclose the name of the place or the boss she works for.
I tried to reach her but couldn't. I became worried. I reached out to her friend whom she said works in the same place with her, but all she said was that Anna was fine and I shouldn't worry.
Days turned into weeks, weeks into months and I didn't hear from Anna and her friend again, and all I am getting now is the news of her death, and her friend is also no more.
My heart bleeds, I don't know what to do or where to start looking for her body at least. I needed to know the people she worked for.
I sat on the floor crying my eyes out, when a thought suddenly flooded my mind. I quickly stood up, and ran to my sister's room and searched her stuff. I turned the room upside down. I had no idea what exactly I was looking for, but maybe something about her boss or where she worked.
I was almost giving up on searching when I saw an old small book that looks more like a diary under her bed. I picked it up and flipped through it. Anna wrote a lot starting from when she started working at the bar, how she was harassed and forced to sleep with most customers that offered to pay her huge amounts of money, but ended up playing her.
She talked about how she met one Mr. Rico, a famous wealthy billionaire boss, that claimed to be in love with her. He promised to take care of her and offered her a job to come work for him at his penthouse. She gave up on her job, and moved to Rico's penthouse.
Rico promised her marriage, but ended up using her. In the dairy she spoke ill about Rico and how much of a player he was. As I read the diary, something wasn't clear. The other parts of the diary weren't clear. The ink had cleaned the writing.
Although It was strange. I couldn't read any further as three pages were torn out from the diary. The three pages that came after the part she was about to disclose a dark secret, and the date I saw on the last page left me stunned. It was five days ago, which made me wonder if Anna had visited before her death.
Then I realised Rico was the man my sister had warned me to stay far away from in the latter from her friend.
Who is this Rico? I wondered. I looked at the diary again as I copied out his full name. Rico Rodriguez.
Seeing that my sister stated he is famous, I quickly checked his name on the internet. Rico Rodriguez, a famous billionaire and the CEO of Mavin groups.
My countenance changed, as I glared at his picture on the internet. You must pay, you must for what you did to my sister! Am coming for you Rico Rodriguez, and I must take revenge.
I ignored the last message from my sister's friend that warned me to stay away from Rico, and went ahead to draft out a plan on how I will make my way into Rico's life and destroy him and everything he worked hard for.
**********
“My apologies, I am so sorry for the drink, let me help you clean the stain” I faked an apology pretending to be drunk.
As tried to clean the stain on Rico's shirt, one of his men tried to pull me away from him, but he stopped them.
I winked at him trying to seduce him as I cleaned the stain. Pretending to be drunk, I tried to dip my hand into his pocket, but he caught my hands, and stopped me. He leaned in closer to me and whispered in my ear. “I don't do drunk girls, but you can have my card,” he said handing over his business card to me. “You can call me anytime, let's hang out. And bedside you look stunning,”
He smiled and walked out of the bar and his men followed suit. I quickly got hold of myself and glared at the card. What got me confused was that he acted like a gentleman, which doesn't perfectly suit the description Anna gave of him in her diary.
I had discovered Rico's favourite place during my research, and found out he always visits the billionaire's bar every friday. It wasn't easy for me to gain entrance into the bar, so I had to dress more as a harlot claiming to be invited by one of the wealthy men I saw on the VIP table in the bar.
I glared at the card for minutes, before throwing it into my handbag. I smiled scornfully, and muttered. The mission has just begun Mr. Rico Rodriguez. I will make you fall crazily in love with me, to the extent that you can't resist me, I will make you pay!
