Chapter 14 Zeke’s eyes focused in a moment, an endless field of pale gray and the sweet, light scent of rain all around him. Cold seeped through his clothes, damp and ruthless. The hard dirt shouldn’t be cold. Not in Abaddon. Brakes squealed next to his ears. Grit dug into the frozen skin of his cheek. Zeke blinked. The gray resolved into a slab. Tires crunched over pebbles. The rough slab of concrete was cracked along the edges. It felt like someone had tried to pull his guts out through his nose. His skin stung where it touched the concrete. Headache and nausea had shallow breaths punching in and out of him. Zeke felt worse than he had when he was pulled into Abaddon. Freezing too.
