Uncomfortable Dinners

Alexi What was that one minute he was hugging me like I was the only person in the room and the next he was growling at me. I knew wolves didn't exactly get along with witches, but I didn't do anything to deserve that and at first it seemed like he was kind of into me. My face got hot at the thought. Now I was currently getting ready for some dinner. "I really don't want to go", I whined to Eric "maybe we should just leave, this was a bad idea," I said, straitening the dress I was already trying on. I looked at myself in the mirror, and I was hot. It was a shimmering green emerald dress with short sleeves to show off my arms. "We already agreed to help" said Eric, walking out of my bathroom. We were shown our rooms after Ashton's outburst and told we would go over everything tomorrow. Eric had on a green dress shirt to match my dress and black jeans, we both had on plain black shoes to match. I smiled, and he smirked, also pleased with our outfit choices. "I know we already agreed, but I don't like that Ashton guy" I said, huffing. He laughed, "Really it seems like you like that Ashton guy a lot, and it seems like he likes you to mate". He said the last word, mocking me, as if this was such a hilarious situation. "I told you I had a bad feeling. The last thing I want is to be mated to some domineering alpha," I said, rolling my eyes. He laughed again then walked out of the room to finish getting ready in his. I looked at myself in the mirror. My cheeks started to blush, and I remembered the way it felt when he held me in his strong muscular arms, the way he smelled like the ocean and the hardness of his chest. I remember how much I liked it and how much I wish he would do it again. Oh great, I thought to myself, this is it. I'm not leaving, am I? I rolled my eyes and made my way down the stairs for dinner. Ashton When I was finally done getting ready, I headed toward the elevator and down to the first floor. When I reached the table, everyone was already there. The table was long with two chairs at the head of each side and four along the sides, so it could fit twelve people. Jake and his mate, Molly, sat to the left of the head along with Lucas, while Alexi and Eric sat to the right. They were already in conversation when I took my seat at the head. "So, lex, did you enjoy the tour?" Jake asked. I rolled my eyes at his familiarity when talking to my mate. "Yes, your castle is lovely" she said enthusiastically. Lucas laughed, and I pressed my lips in a tight line, suppressing a laugh. Alexi looked confused at our reactions. "Well, most people just call it a packhouse, but thank you" he said. "Oh" she said a little embarrassed. "So Jake here tells me you guys aren't your average witches", Molly says. "Oh, yeah were from an elemental coven, pretty rare even among witches" says Eric. Just then, a couple of omega maids came out to place the food on the table. There was a huge-roasted chicken with at least five different side dishes. "What makes that rare" she asked as the maids carved the chicken and began making everyone's plate. "Well, two things actually" said Alexi, speaking up this time. Her voice was so melodic it was like an angel singing and light bells during a wedding. "One being that witches that are able to practice elements aren't exactly common and, two, being witches that practice different elements, don't really mix well, and our coven was made up of all types of elemental witches" she says leaning down to smell the food. "This smells delicious thank you" she said to a maid who quickly blushed and scurried away. I couldn't keep my eyes off of her. What was the catch? She seemed nice enough, but I'd been fooled by witches before they all had a motive, and I was going to find hers. "So what made you guys say yes to helping us?" I asked, taking a bite of whatever was on the plate placed in front of me. "Alexi looked startled like she didn't think I could speak. "Umm… well. Jake's a good friend, and he helped us a few years ago. It's only right we return the favor" she said. Lucas nodded his head in understanding. "Right but what do you get out of it, did he promise you something?" I pressed. There had to be more, no way that's the only reason. "Well, we do want revenge on King Richard" said Eric. "I see, so it's not about us. You have your own objective," I said. "You want to take advantage of our resources". "Well I wouldn't say that" said Alexi in a small voice. I stared at her, and she stared back, surprising me. "Is there something going on here" said Jake, confused, looking between me and Alexi. "Oh that's right you weren't there. It turns out your witch friend is our alpha's mate" said Lucas, chuckling. Jakes' eyes widened. "Really that explains so much, wow" he said. "And what exactly does that explain" I said irritated. "My protectiveness of lex, of course, I was always super confused about why I felt that way. Now I know its my job. The bond between a Gamma and a Luna is permanent you know, it can't be broken unless one of them dies" he said turning his attention to Alexi mid rant. His familiarity with my mate was really starting to piss me off. The way he called her nicknames and smiled at her. I growled startling everyone at the table, causing them to look at me. sh*t "She's not the Luna until I've accepted her as my mate and I haven't done that yet" I said, trying to distract them from my outburst, which I don't think worked. "What? Well, why not" asked jake. "Because, in case you've forgotten, witches can't be trusted, they're all selfish and deceiving", I said pointedly, looking at Alexi. Maybe she'd show her true colors if I got her angry enough. "You don't even know me" she said, staring defiantly back at me. "I know your kind and that's enough." I snarled in disgust. I saw her eyes flicker gold as she reached out and griped Eric's hand under the table. "Besides, even if you weren't somehow like other witches I have no doubt you're a sl*t". Molly who had been silent this whole time, suddenly gasped at my words. Eric growled at me. My eyes turned black at the challenge. Before anything could happen, I was struck by a sudden sting to my face. I looked up to see a fuming Alexi. "How dare you, is this how you treat your guests" She yelled. "I came here despite my better judgment because I wanted to help, but if this is how I can expect to be treated, you can forget about it and, just so you know I never said I wanted to be your mate" she continued. Klaus started whimpering in my head at his mate's tone, telling me to apologize. Before I could say anything, she continued. "You think you can just talk bad about me because I'm a witch. Well, guess what, I've heard some horrible rumors about wolves. Mind you, it's not like I had a choice. I was born this way, and I've never taken advantage of a person a day in my life and I've never judged anyone based on their past or speices unlike you". "I'm not ashamed of what I am or who I am, and you know what, I'd rather be a witch than a prejudiced a**hole" she yelled at me, storming out of the room. My mouth dropped as I watched her leave. Eric got up from the table with a smug look on his face that made me want to punch it off, "yeah", he said in a mocking tone, and followed Alexi out the room leaving me stunned.
