A dream shattered 🥺
Introduction My name is Nobuhle Sibisi, and my life has been a journey of unexpected twists and turns. Born in the vibrant KwaZulu-Natal, I was the precious only child of Lulu Mkhize and Mabuza Sibisi. But fate had other plans. When I was just three years old, my parents' lives were tragically cut short in a devastating accident. I never got to know them, but their memory lives on through the captivating photos that adorn my aunt's walls. My aunt, a selfless angel, took me under her wing and showered me with love and care. She made sure I felt like a queen, never wanting for anything. But as I grew older, the ache of not having my parents by my side began to linger. Now, at 20 years old, I stand at the threshold of a new chapter – university life at the prestigious University of Pretoria. My heart races with excitement and nerves as I wonder what the future holds. Will I find my true purpose? Will I make my parents proud? The world is full of possibilities, and I'm ready to take the leap. Insect :1 TodaySunday, I'm en route to the University of Pretoria. My mind is racing with questions about my new life. Having visited the city before, I've heard various stories - some scary - and wonder if I'll manage. My aunt notices my quietness and asks if everything is okay. Aunt: Nana why so quiet Nobuhle? Me: I'm just wondering if I'll cope in this new world. Aunt: You know what you want in life right? Me: Yes, I do. And I want to make my parents proud. Aunt: That's my girl! If you know what you want, you'll become the best doctor in the world. Remember the 7 Ps? Me: Obviously Aunt! How could I forget? Aunt: We never know, Nobuhle. Remember them in Pretoria. Auntie, I put on my AirPods and listened to music because she wouldn't stop reminding me about the 7 Ps!" As I tune out my aunt's reminders, I think about the 5Ps: Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance. It's her mantra, and she's drummed it into me since I was a kid. I know she means well, but sometimes I wish she'd trust me to figure things out myself. The bus ride to Pretoria is long, but the scenery outside the window distracts me from my worries. I watch as the urban landscape gives way to rolling hills and eventually, the city skyline comes into view. When we arrive, I'm struck by the sheer size of the university campus. Towering buildings and bustling students everywhere – it's overwhelming. My aunt notices my wide eyes and gives me a reassuring smile. "You'll find your footing, Nobuhle. Just remember the 5 Ps." I nod, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. This is it – my new life as a medical student. I take a deep breath, grab my bags, and follow my aunt to my new dorm. Little do I know, this is just the beginning of an incredible journey. As we settle into my dorm room, my aunt helps me unpack and organize my belongings. She's always been a stickler for tidiness, and I appreciate her help. We chat about everything from my course schedule to my new classmates, and for a moment, I forget about my nerves. But when she hugs me goodbye, I feel a lump form in my throat. I'm really doing this – I'm starting a new chapter, alone. My aunt hands me a small note with her familiar handwriting: "Believe in yourself, Nobuhle. You've got this. Remember, Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance." I smile tucking the note into my pocket, feeling a sense of determination wash over me. By : Thobejane Nthabiseng 💗 Insert : 2 Well life in this town seems easy because we do lots of things using technology. I meet my roommate, Nomhle and she's stunning. She has piercing white eyes, pink lips, and a charming dimple. Her smile reveals perfectly white teeth - damn, she's beautiful! Not only is she gorgeous, but she's also kind. Unfortunately, we both have classes to attend, so I don't get a chance to talk to her and get to know her better." After school nomhle and I cross paths frequently but our conversations remain brief. Me: Hey Nomhle how's it going?"( I ask trying to sound casual) . Nomhle : (She looks up from her books and smiles) I'm good thanks. Just trying to keep up with the coursework. Me : (I nod in understanding) . "Same here. So what made you choose this university?" NOMHLE :( closes her book and leans back in her CHAIR) . I wanted to experience life in a new city. How about you? (I take a deep breath excited to share my story with her.) Me : I wanted to pursue my dream of becoming a doctor I say, my passion evident in my voice. I've always been fascinated by the human body and how it works. Plus, I want to make a difference in my community." Nomhle : Nomhle's eyes light up with interest. That's amazing! I'm studying psychology. I've always been intrigued by human behavior and mental health." We chat for hours, discovering shared interests and values. Our conversation flows effortlessly and I find myself feeling comfortable and connected to Nomhle. As the night wears on, we decide to take a break and grab some snacks from the cafeteria. As we walk, Nomhle tells me about her love for music and poetry. I share my passion for writing and storytelling. We laugh and joke our bond growing stronger with each passing minute. I realize that I've found not only a roommate but also a true friend. Bye 💗 Comment and like for insert :3. By : Thobejane Nthabiseng
