A proposal

Kyla woke up to her phone ringing in the early hours of the morning. It was only 4:am but someone was bugging her with calls. She slowly picked up the phone and gulped down the moment she saw who the caller was. It was Andrew. Was he calling to apologize? Did he miss her already? Does he want to make things work? Her heart raced with a mixture of panic and hope. She hoped that he was willing to make things right between them and even if he had hurt her beyond words, she was still ready to forgive. She placed the phone on her ears but the next words that came off his lips killed every bit of hope she had in her. “Haven’t you signed those papers? Why haven’t you returned it? Are you out of your damn mind? Can you be fast about something for once in your life?” Andrew screamed from the other end of the call. Kyla opened her mouth to talk but tears came out of her eyes instead. The pain had made her throat constricted and obstructed the words that made to come out. Just as she struggled to remain calm despite the lashing out happening on the other end of the call, she heard a slight knock. The door opened and Zane walked in majestically, clad in a casual pants and shirt. He had the two envelopes in his hands; the ones Kyla had been with before the accident. “Sorry to disturb. I thought it would be nice to come check on my guest and to also ensure she had a nice first night here in my home”, Zane said as he sat across her and folded his hands to his chest, wearing a small grin that made him look more appealing. Kyla quickly dropped her phone with a shaky hands and swiftly wiped the tears off her eyes. She wasn’t fast enough though because Zane already realized that she’s been in tears. “A phone call made you cry. What was it about?” He asked Kyla who sniffed hard and finally broke into louder sobs. Zane froze on the spot. His heart ached to see someone as beautiful as Kyla sobbing before him. Without having a second thought, he rushed over to her and pulled her into a warm hug. “Don’t cry. Please…”, he pleaded, with his hands wrapped around her and his mouth whispering soothing words into her ears. “If what’s in that envelope is what is making you cry, then it’s not worth it”, he suddenly said. At first, Kyla thought that she didn’t hear him correctly but the look he had in his face showed seriousness. “You went through the details of the envelopes?” She asked, her voice laced with disbelief. “I asked my men to look into your personal information. I needed to know who I’m bringing into my house. The details of the envelope were among what gave them the information they needed”, he started. “You were in my company to plead that the contract be given to your husband but on reaching home, you met him with another woman and not only that, he handed divorce papers over to you”, Zane explained to Kyla who only gazed in shock. “No one is worth your tears and certainly not a man who doesn’t see your value. Pick your pieces and call the shots from now henceforth. Do you know why you have the power to call the shots? It’s because you have me now and no man would ever cause you harm as long as I live”, Zane said with the softest voice ever. He picked up the divorce envelope and dropped it on her bed. “You still have time to sign the papers and start on a fresh page”, he explained. “And for the contract, you decide if you still want him to have him or not”, Zane added as he finally stood up and strolled out of the room. Kyla started off with a small scoff and then it transited into a very loud laughter. This laughter reeked of pain with a mixture of revenge. She was going to make Andrew pay for the humiliation he caused her and it was going to start now. She picked up the pen and finally signed on the papers, letting out a deep breath of relief afterwards. Next, she picked up the envelope containing the contract and tore it into tiny shreds. Since he mentioned that his mistress would help him get it, they should give it a try. “Let me see how you get the contract”, she muttered under her breath as she tore the envelope containing the contract into tiny shreds. It was time to start a new life and she was ready for it. The next few days saw her getting treatments from doctors and nurses who came on a daily basis to check on her just like they were ordered. She was treated like a Queen and the mansion she lived in was out of this world. Even in her wildest dream, she would never believe that she would live in a place like this. A month after everything had happened and when Zane was now certain that she was fine medically, he invited her for a dinner date. Just as she drifted into worry about what she would wear, a knock came in and two women walked in, holding the most beautiful dress she had ever seen. “This is for you, from the boss”, they said as they dropped the dress on the bed. Kyla opened her mouth in shock as she caressed the dress that looked like a treaure. She could tell that it was worth a fortune. After dressing up, she stepped out and was led into the Lamborghini waiting for her outside the mansion. She arrived the exquisite restaurant Zane had reserved for the date but the moment she stepped her foot into it, her eyes met the balloons and petals scattered across the ground. This wasn’t just a dinner date! It was a proposal! Was Zane Sinclair, the god of White and gold industries and the most successful business man in the country trying to propose to her?
