Betrayed?
Kyla dropped to the ground with a loud thud the minute a fierce punch landed on her face. She felt a metallic taste in her mouth and quickly spat out the blood that already formed in her mouth.
A small smile of victory curved on her lips as she looked at the two fierce men staring down at her, with their fists clenched in pure rage.
“What? Is that all you’ve got?” She yelled on top of her voice, clutching hard on the brown envelope that contained the signed contract she successfully acquired for her darling husband.
Another punch landed on her face and this time, she felt a warm liquid dripping down her nostrils. She drew in a deep breath and started laughing hysterically. If anything, she was excited that she had the contract in her arms. That was what mattered to her this very moment.
Earlier that day, she had been in a brightly lit and beautifully decorated office space, speaking to the Manager of White and Gold companies to consider accepting the contract for her husband. She was such a loving wife and the type that would never mind going an extra mile to make her husband happy.
Truly, she never thought that a day would come when she would dress up to go fight for a contract, but as long as it concerned Andrew, her husband and lover, she was down to make it happen.
The Manager of White and Gold company had looked at her with keen interest, wondering why a woman would come meet him for such course.
“I never planned to do this. My husband has no idea that I came here to ask you for this too. But please, I didn’t want to take chances by sitting still and watching him lose it. I know that the competition is quite fierce and so, I decided to take a step ahead by being audacious”, Kyla had explained to the Manager who was still shocked to his bones.
“Is that a fake identity card?” He asked Kyla whose eyes darted to the id card she had hanging on her shirt.
She had stolen the Id card from a worker and used that as a means to gain access to the Manager’s office.
“I’m sorry”, that was all she muttered as she continued looking into his eyes, hoping that he would sign the document before her.
“The competition for this contract is indeed fierce and I’ve got quite a number of people I’ve gained interest in. Unfortunately, your husband is not part of them”, he dropped and for a moment, Kyla thought that she had heard wrongly.
She fell on her knees that instant, pleading that he considers her husband who was hardworking and willing to do a great job.
“I assure you that you won’t regret giving him this contract. Please. I can’t bear seeing him in pains if he is rejected”, Kyla had pleaded, with tears dripping down her eyes.
The Manager was stunned to the core. Women, he had seen, but a woman who was currently on her knees to fight for her husband’s happiness was a discovery for him.
He cleared his throat softly and picked up the document, staring at it calmly with an indifferent look in his eyes.
Kyla’s palms felt sweaty. Her heart rate increased and sweats started dripping down her forehead. Her only prayers was for him to pick up a pen and sign the papers.
“He better thrill me with what he’s bringing”, the Manager said in conclusion and finally signed the contract.
Kyla’s joy knew no bounds. She was close to exploding with excitement at that moment. She clasped her hands in gratitude as tears of joy formed in her eyes.
“I promise you that he will do great. He is such a loving and hardworking man. You won’t regret this”, she added in a haste as she finally stood up, wearing big smiles that brightened her pretty face.
“Congratulations”, the Manager had added as he shook her hands and handed the brown envelope that now contained the signed documents over to her.
And that was it! With the brown envelope, she majestically walked out of the company, almost running, since she couldn’t wait to meet her husband and break the pleasant news to him.
For weeks, Andrew had cried about the contract and the thousands of dollars that would come once it is sealed. For days, she had watched him have sleepless night because of how worried he got. Countlessly, she had assured him that everything would be fine and he would get it. And now, through her help, he finally did! This was the best news ever and she couldn’t wait to see the smile on his face the moment he hears of it.
And so, even if the bodyguard of a fierce competitor was taking out his rejection and frustration on her, she didn’t care.
She wiped the blood off her nose and smiled warmly.
“You devil! Do you know how much we’ve worked for this contract? Who the hell are you to come take it away from us?” They continued yelling at her but she didn’t care.
It was funny to see how fast they got to get the information about her getting the contract because they were right outside the company before she stepped out.
After the snatching of the fake Id, finding her way into the Manager’s office and getting beaten to stupor by cruel and brutal competitors, she was finally on her way home to meet her husband.
She cared less about her bleeding nose, or her head that ached terribly. What mattered was the contract she had in her hands.
Immediately she came out of the car, she raced her way into the main building, withholding the urge to scream and hoping to appear to his face for a pleasant surprise.
Just as she climbed the stairs, she heard soft moans coming from one of the rooms. At first, she thought that it came from a movie track, but on a closer range, she realized that it was real.
“Did any of his friends come around with a woman?” She wondered silently as she silently walked over to the door and placed her ears on it.
Indeed, it was moaning sounds…
She finally concluded that it must be from a friend of Andrew and so, she turned around to leave. But then, she heard the voice of a woman saying “ohh! Andrew! How much I love the taste of you!”
The brown envelope swiftly dropped off her hands. Her body turned cold and with every bit of strength in her, she pushed the door open.
