It had been months since Melissa walked away. I hadn’t slept properly for months either. Every night, I lay awake until dawn, staring at the empty side of the bed where she used to sleep. Every morning when I woke up, only one question occupied my mind.
Where is she?
I stood in front of the large window of my chamber, my hands clasped behind my back as I overlooked the vast field of the Silver Lake Pack. There was a time when this view filled me with a sense of accomplishment. I had believed that protecting my people was my greatest achievement.
