Momentarily, I lost my voice. I didn’t know where I was supposed to find the strength to say another word. My throat closed up, as if something was blocking there that I couldn’t force down.
“Warren…” I whispered again, but my voice was softer this time.
He flinched. For a split second, I thought he might finally look at me properly. Maybe the boy I had raised would come back to me.
