I stood there, watching as the heavy iron door of the cell swung shut in front of Director Amber. The sound of the lock reverberated throughout the basement.
I looked away, my lips pursed. I couldn’t help but feel sympathy and guilt. She was the woman who had adopted me when I had no one. She had raised me, tended to me, and acted as my mother my entire life. And now, I let her be imprisoned.
“Warren.”
I glanced Hall’s way. There wasn’t a trace of repentance on his face. He looked completely convinced that everything he was doing was right. Perhaps a part of me felt the same.
