Chapter 37 - Nightmare is Over-1

719 Words

Melissa’s POV. I had been certain that fall would be the end of me. When my battered body plunged over that cliff, I had accepted my fate. There was no hope. There was no escaping a current that violent. No one was coming to save me. I thought I would bleed to death from the wounds covering my body. If the blood loss didn’t kill me first, then surely the freezing water would. I thought I would run out of strength and let the river drag me wherever it pleased. Either way, I had never expected to escape death. I had never expected to see light again. Suddenly, I gripped the blanket tightly, my heart thumping like a drum against my chest. Without warning, horrifying images of rogue wolves mocking and harassing me flooded my mind, driving me closer and closer to the edge of the cliff.
