Chapter 1:The Night Of The Red Moon
The moon hung low in the sky, full and crimson, casting an eerie glow over the Red Moon Park. The trees swayed in the cool evening breeze, whispering secrets of ancient times when the wolves ruled these lands, long before humans knew of their existence. The scent of pine and earth filled the air, masking the tension that crackled through the dense woods.
Alexander Matteo, the Alpha of Red Moon Park, stood at the edge of a cliff that overlooked the vast expanse of his territory. His tall, muscular frame was silhouetted against the moonlight, his dark hair falling just past his ears as his sharp eyes took in everything before him. His pack was thriving under his leadership, and though his reputation as a ruthless Alpha preceded him, no one could deny his effectiveness. Fear and respect clung to his name like shadows, trailing wherever he went.
But tonight, something troubled him, a deep unease that even his superior senses couldn’t quite pinpoint.
"What's on your mind, Alexander?" a familiar voice asked from behind him.
Alexander didn’t turn. He didn’t need to. His Beta, Sebastian Dante, had been his closest friend since they were pups. Now, at thirty-five, Sebastian was the only one who could break through Alexander’s tough exterior.
"Something's coming, Sebastian," Alexander said, his voice low and filled with the weight of his responsibilities. "I can feel it. The moon is different tonight."
Sebastian stood beside him, his sharp features softened by the concern for his Alpha. "Is it the pack? Or something else?"
Alexander finally turned to meet his Beta’s gaze. "It’s her. Emma. The moon’s pulling her closer, but she still doesn’t have her wolf. I’m worried the pack might start to lose faith in her, in me… in the bond."
Sebastian frowned, crossing his arms. "You know it’s rare, but it’s not unheard of. She’s young, Alexander. The Moon Goddess has her reasons. Maybe it’s not time for Emma to awaken yet."
"Or maybe I’m forcing her into something she’s not ready for." Alexander’s deep voice carried an edge of frustration. "She’s still in college, living her life among humans. She hasn’t even seen what we are truly capable of. What *I* am capable of."
"You’ve given her space," Sebastian reminded him. "But she’s your mate. The bond will guide her. She’ll come to understand what it means."
Alexander’s gaze darkened, as his mind drifted back to Emma. The thought of her sent a jolt through his body, a primal need to protect her, to claim her as his. But he held back. For now. He knew he had to wait for the right time—for her to be ready, not just for him, but for everything that came with being the mate of an Alpha.

Emma Williams was oblivious to the storm brewing in Alexander’s mind. She sat in her dorm room, her textbooks spread out on the bed, trying to focus on her studies, but her thoughts kept drifting back to the strange dreams she’d been having lately. Dreams of running through the woods under the light of a blood-red moon, of shadows that seemed to follow her, and eyes—glowing, predatory eyes that watched her from the darkness.
She shook her head, trying to dismiss the thoughts. It was probably just the stress of balancing school with the constant tugging of the bond she didn’t fully understand. She knew Alexander was a werewolf—she’d known for a while now. Her parents had raised her with the knowledge of their heritage, but for some reason, Emma still hadn’t felt her wolf stir inside her.
Her best friend, Sadisa Rodriguez, was in the same boat. Though they had grown up knowing their families were part of the Red Moon Pack, neither of them had shifted. It made them feel out of place, like they were missing a part of themselves that everyone else seemed to have already embraced.
"Emma?" Sadisa’s voice interrupted her thoughts. She peeked into the room, her long dark hair spilling over her shoulder. "You okay? You look a little… lost."
Emma offered a weak smile. "Yeah, just thinking. Same stuff, you know?"
Sadisa flopped onto Emma’s bed, glancing at the textbooks but showing no interest in them. "If it’s about Alexander, you should talk to him. Or better yet, get out of here for a while. You’ve been cooped up in this room for days."
Emma sighed, closing her textbook. "It’s not just him. It’s everything. The pack, the bond, my parents… It’s like everyone’s waiting for me to become something I don’t even understand yet. What if I never get my wolf?"
Sadisa sat up, her expression softening. "You will. I know it. It just takes time. Maybe the Moon Goddess is saving your wolf for something special."
"Or maybe she forgot about me," Emma said half-jokingly, but there was a hint of sadness behind her words.
Sadisa shook her head. "Not possible. You’re too important for that. And you’re Alexander’s mate. That’s got to mean something, right?"
Emma looked down at her hands, her fingers absentmindedly tracing the mark on her wrist. It was a faint, crescent-shaped scar that had appeared the night she first met Alexander. He had explained that it was the mark of their bond, a sign that they were meant to be together. But for Emma, it only raised more questions.
"I just don’t know if I’m ready," Emma whispered. "To be his mate, to be part of the pack… It’s all so much."
Sadisa placed a comforting hand on Emma’s shoulder. "You don’t have to figure it all out tonight. Take it one step at a time. And if you need to talk, I’m here."
Emma nodded, grateful for her friend’s support, but the unease gnawing at her didn’t fade. She knew that something was coming—something big—and that her life was about to change in ways she couldn’t yet imagine.

Back at the packhouse, Alexander paced in his office, his thoughts consumed by Emma. His father, Matteo Rutherford, sat in one of the leather chairs by the fireplace, watching his son with a knowing gaze.
"You’re restless," Matteo said, his voice calm but authoritative. "It’s understandable, given the circumstances. But you must be patient."
Alexander stopped pacing, his eyes meeting his father’s. "She’s my mate, Father. I can’t help but feel protective. But the pack… they expect her to be like us. What happens if she doesn’t get her wolf?"
Matteo stood up, his imposing figure still strong despite his sixty-nine years. "If the Moon Goddess has chosen her for you, then she has her reasons. You cannot rush fate, Alexander. Emma will find her way, just as you did."
Alexander clenched his fists. "And if she doesn’t?"
"Then you will stand by her. That is your duty as her mate—and as Alpha."
Alexander fell silent, his mind racing. His mother, Ellena Matteo, appeared at the door, her gentle presence a calming influence on both men.
"Your father is right, Alex," she said softly. "Emma is strong, even if she doesn’t realize it yet. Give her time. She’s meant for great things."
Alexander nodded, though the uncertainty still gnawed at him. He knew his parents were right, but the pull he felt toward Emma was undeniable. Every fiber of his being screamed for him to protect her, to claim her, to make her his in every sense of the word.
But he couldn’t. Not yet.

The following weekend, the pack held a gathering in the clearing deep within Red Moon Park. The full moon would rise again, casting its light on the pack as they celebrated their unity and strength. Emma had been invited, of course, though she still felt like an outsider despite her bond with Alexander.
As she and Sadisa arrived at the clearing, Emma’s heart raced. She hadn’t seen Alexander in person for several days, and the intensity of their bond made her stomach flutter with anticipation. She could sense him before she even laid eyes on him, the invisible thread that connected them pulling her toward him.
When she finally spotted him standing among the pack members, his commanding presence unmistakable, her breath caught in her throat. He was every bit the Alpha—strong, confident, and utterly captivating. But there was something in his eyes as he looked at her, something that made her both excited and terrified.
As the night progressed, the pack gathered around the bonfire, and the air was filled with laughter, music, and the scents of food. But Emma couldn’t shake the feeling that something was about to change, something monumental.
And as the red moon began to rise higher in the sky, bathing the clearing in its eerie glow, Emma’s heart pounded in her chest.
The storm was coming.
And she was right in its path.
