CHAPTER 1: Contract Marriage
ANNIE'S POV
[rain pouring]
I was in my favorite coffee shop on a cold rainy night sipping my cup of latte, staring blankly outside.
I wrinkled my hoodie slightly out of frustration.
There was no time left. My sick mother was battling for her life in the hospital- no money to pay her bills or further her treatment, and I about to be homeless as my rent was due.
Ha!, I smiled mockingly to myself a tear rolling down my face, still lost in thought.
[ Bell Dinging]
I was snapped out of my reverie when the cafe's bell rang and in came a customer.
Everyone else failed to notice him, but I did- who wouldn't notice their crush who's also their boss?.
Time froze around us as we stared at into each other's eyes - his gaze boring deep into my soul.
Draped in black, with water droplets dripping down his coat, he made his way towards my table.
He asked gently with his same magnetic tone," May i sit?".
"Sure!" I replied smiling.
"I know this may sound abrupt and suspicious especially coming from a stranger like me." He said
I was literally dumbfounded at that point. He didn't recognize me.
I gulped down the lump forming in my throat. "Sure go ahead."
"Will you marry me?" He continued. "I know this sounds absurd, but it's a contract marriage not to worry no strings attached." He stated crossing his legs.
He looked me in the eyes, his cold demeanor overflowing like he was negotiating a contract in the conference room.
"I'll pay you daily and you'll still have a monthly salary, but on one condition..."
I gulped. It's always like that in the movies. Only one condition that can ruin your life, but I didn't care. I was already financially burdened and this could help me plus the fact that I have a crush on him.
Glaring back i said, "State your condition."
He relaxed more into the chair smirking,"You'll mother my kids."
I almost choked on my coffee, spitting it out and almost drenching Jake- his assistant I failed to noticed with it.
I wiped the corner of my lips with my sleeves, eyes widening as I exclaimed,"You say what now?"
I was already blushing at the thought and tried to keep a serious face.
"I'm sorry sir, but it sounds quite fishy. From your aura and mode of dressing, you're no ordinary man. So why would you want me- an average ordinary girl with no background to mother your children when you can choose a woman in high class for that. I mean- I'm not your class." I said all that in one breath, exhaling when I was done.
He chuckled a little,"The women in high society are fake and yes your guess is quite right!"
"I need someone who's real, someone who isn't after my money and won't pester me once the deal is off." He said bending closer. "You seem like that type of girl, that's why I'm interested." He said huskily his fingertips brushing my face and lips.
Drawing back he said,"Do we have a deal Miss. _______?"
I considered it and thought I had nothing to lose. I responded confidently,"Annie, and we have a deal."
We signed a contract provided by his assistant, exchanged numbers and decided to meet at the Civil Affairs Bureau the next day.
