Day 1
It was the first day of the academic year at Oakstone Academy, co-ed boarding school. Children as young as eight lived in dorms, and the parents were having a final meeting before they left campus.
The new families were having a barbecue by the school swimming pool. The parents mingled, some helping with the cooking and others keeping eyes on their children. Most of the children sat facing the pool, except for a boy who stood by the pool, looking into his reflection.
A girl hopped down from where she sat on the stone steps above the swimming pool. She came next to the boy and stuck her hand out.
"Hi I'm Magenta, what's your name?"
Eight-year-old Magenta Davies greeted Blue Harrison. Blue stared at Magenta for a total of three seconds.
Then Blue charged and pushed the girl straight into the pool.
"Blue!" his mom exclaimed, rushing over as the splash caught everyone's attention.
Magenta's dad jumped into the pool to get her out. Magenta sputtered and shivered as she came out of the pool, waddling close to her
dad.
Clutching Blue by his ear, Blue's mom apologized to Magenta's family profusely.
"Ow, mommy!" Blue protested.
"So sorry, I don't know what came over my son."
Magenta's dad took it in great stride and said, "that's alright. As long as everybody is okay."
Magenta buried her face into her dad's neck, not wanting to see the mean boy.
A while later, Blue was walking from the barbecue area around the pool to sit down with his hotdog, when Magenta skipped
alongside him and bumped him into the pool.
Magenta blew a raspberry at Blue's flailing arms and, for the second time, after Blue's mom got him out of the pool, the two families
apologized to one another.
"Magenta! Apologize to the Harrisons!"
Magenta crossed her arms and shook her head.
"No! He pushed me first."
"Maybe we should have a meal together sometime?" the moms suggested, so that the children could get to know each other and
hopefully get along.
Sopping wet, both children went back to their dorms with their parents to dry off. Unfortunately, their dorms were both in the same
area, just about fifty meters away from each other.
Blue chased Magenta while the parents had a chat about the socio-economical situation in their home country.
"Meanie!" Magenta stuck out her tongue.
"I'm faster than you!" Blue roared.
"Nuh uh," Magenta raced faster.
"Kids, don't run so fast!" Magenta's mom called.
Neither listened and both sped up.
