Lucian POV
THE NEXT DAY
“Dad you can't do that?” I yelled, my eyes staring angrily at Dad, who was suddenly trying to force me to marry or lose my right to become the next CEO of his company.
“You have to marry Lucian. There's no two ways about this. I need an heir as soon as possible”
“Just a year after my accident, you suddenly need an heir,” I said in an angry time, pissed by his words
“I need an heir just in case you will never stand up from that wheelchair. I need someone who can stand, walk, and command the employees, not someone who would sit on a wheelchair and give out instructions” he uttered coldly, his words making my heart pain me
“Kenneth” mom suddenly uttered in shock “Why are you taking this way? He is your son and how do you expect him to feel after saying all that” my mom asked, clearly hurt by my father's choice of words
“I don't care,” he reasoned, glaring at Mom.
“Why are you challenging me, Dad? What are you trying to take my inheritance from me?” I asked gritting my teeth in anger
I had an accident a year ago and after that accident, my life took a miserable turn.
My father became cold and distant to me and no matter what I did to get better, nothing worked.
No medication therapy, medications or even exercise worked.
I lost my legs in that accident, and ever since then, I've been confined to a black electric wheelchair.
"I'm not challenging you or trying to take your inheritance from you, John. I'm just saying that you should try to get me a complete heir, not a crippled one," Dad said.
Dad has been so adamant about getting me married, and he even tried setting me on numerous blind dates, but he stopped as soon as he noticed I never went to any.
He left me for some period of time before he resumed this marriage arrangement again, of which all the ladies rejected me because I couldn't walk and might never walk.
He wanted me to get married and have a child that would continue his lineage. He was afraid his company might crash because his crippled son didn't have an heir
“I need to rest and I'm sick and tired of hearing those every time I come home” I yelled angrily
“lucian, please try to understand what your father is saying. If you can't get married and have a child soon, he will be forced to do what he has in mind." Mom uttered, worry etched on her voice
"And what would that be?" I yelled clenching my fist as rage boiled inside me
"Listen, lucian, we have no intention of threatening you with your inheritance. All we want is for you to do what your father is requesting. Get married to any lady of your choice and produce us someone who will take over this company after you are gone. You're inheriting the company because your father gave birth to you so do the same thing and follow in his footsteps" Mom uttered, gradually beginning to sound like dad
“After my father is gone, I will still be alive, so why should I hurry to have an heir when I'm still young, strong, and healthy?”
“Healthy?” Dad asked, his voice thundering in the living room “A crippled man in a wheelchair is what you call a healthy person” my father uttered bitterly
“Kenneth,” Mom called out with tears gathering in her eyes.
“Don't interrupt me, Rachael. He needs to hear it,” my father snapped in anger, then shifted his gaze back to me. “Do you think you're strong? You're a weakling who can't even get up from his bed when he wakes up every morning”
“Kenneth, please, he is our son. Don't say such hurtful things to him” Mom begged, tears rolling down her cheeks
“He is too stubborn because of how you pamper him. He is in this condition because of you”
“All my life I did all to please you just because I wanted you to accept me but you keep disrespecting me with disdain” I uttered, my heart pounding against my chest in pain
“That's because you're not my son.” his words made me freeze in my spot.
“What did you say?” I asked shocked
“Kenneth please not now” Mom begged, rushing to Dad's side and holding his hand “Please you promised please” Mon begged and I could sense this was a secret I wasn't supposed to know about
She yanked his hand away from Mom's grip and stared at me with a cold gaze “Get married and give me an heir” he commanded with an authoritative tone
"And if I don't comply with your terms, who will be in charge of my company?" I asked curiously.
"Lucas," Dad replied, and his words pissed me off.
"Are you joking? You can't do that. I won't allow you to give my inheritance to my stepbrother." My jaw clenched as I stared angrily at Dad, who didn't even feel threatened by my state.
"I can and I will. Besides, it's my company, and he is my son,” he uttered in anger, staring daggers at me.
“How long do I have?” I asked, closing my eyes and trying to hold onto the strand of self-control I had left
This was one of the reasons I missed my legs. If I still had my legs, I would have bolted towards the man I called my father and landed a good punch on his old wrinkled face
“24 hours” he responded and my eyes shot open instantly
“24 hours?" I asked in shock, “Are you sick?” I asked, my blood gradually beginning to boil
“I should be the one asking you that, lucas. Besides, you're the one in the wheelchair,” he uttered coldly.
“How the hell do you want me to get a woman to get married to in 24 hours?” I asked yelling the ceiling of the living room down
"Well, luckily for you, I've got an escape route for you, but you will have to sign a contract,” Dad said.
“what route? What contract?” I asked in curiosity
“It's a marriage contract and I need you to sign it. The lady I've prepared automatically becomes your wife as soon as you sign the contract and you must_”
“No, Dad. I'm signing no f**cking contract”
“Then be ready to lose your inheritance to your stepbrother” he uttered, his words sharp and
“What? Dad, you can't force me against my will” I yelled back glaring at him
“Forget the marriage and lose the company or marry the person I've prepared for you and become the next CEO”
“Dad you can't do this. This is_” I tried to say but he interrupted me
“I give you twenty hours to get me an answer, lucian. Just twenty-four hours,” he uttered, then walked past me in the living room, leaving me alone with Mom.
