Thinking she was saving her father from death, Rhoda agrees to a marriage arranged under the guise of duty and loyalty not realizing she's been used as a pawn for financial gain

On her wedding day, she is shocked to discover her soon-to-be husband Lucian is not only a stranger but also confined to a wheelchair.

Lucian, bitter and frustrated by his father, faces mounting pressure from his father to get married or forget his succession to the company.

Denied his rightful inheritance until he marries, he sees the union with Rhoda as a necessity, a transaction rather than a relationship but as the two thrust into an unexpected partnership, sparks fly and buried secrets surface

Rhoda discovers that Lucian's condition hides a much deeper story, one that could unravel the web of lies surrounding their union and Lucian begins to see Rhoda's determination and courage as a key to reclaiming his life and inheritance

Can two people brought together by deceit and desperation find love in the chaos, or will the truth they later unravel destroy everything?

Chapter 1 _ A sacrifice
Rhoda's POV I watched my mom was slapped on the cheeks and my dad punched on his face and the bald bastard in front of us revealed as he watched with amusement. “Please stop hurting my dad. He is going to die if you keep punching him that way. Would you want the death of an old man in your hands?” I pleaded for the umpteenth time My fragile eyes were heavy with unshed tears as I watched my dad groan in pain. The last thing I wanted to was to allow that bastard to see me cry, but as time passed, I was not sure I would be able to keep this pretense. I shifted my gaze to my sister who was crying profusely from her already bloodshot eyes. The bald man didn't even spare me a glance but fixed his gaze on Dad who was groaning in pain from the several pinches on his stomach I was pissed, scared and helpless. Very helpless “Your father should have known that before trying to steal from Mr Kenneth. If anything, the boss is just giving him a taste of what's to come if he doesn't pay the money in the next 24 hours” he replied uninterested It wasn't long before the tears that had been threatening to spill out from my eyes finally spilled out. It would be a lie if I said I didn't know my dad borrowed a lot of money because he couldn't get over his obsession with gambling but this had to be the worst of all punishment he had received “Please don't kill my husband. Please stop” Mum pleaded, her black wavy hair scattered all over her shoulders with tears rolling down her cheeks My father had messed with Mr Kenneth, one of the most powerful men in town and I was scared that this might be the last time I see him alive if I didn't do something “Please help me. I'm sorry about what my dad did but I need you to stop hurting him” I uttered in desperation The man shifted his gaze to me, eyeing me carefully before smirking “You don't have to beg me. I'm only carrying out orders from the boss. If there's anyone you should apologize to, it's Boss Ken, not me” he replied then fixed his gaze back on dad “Then take me to boss Ken,” I uttered in desperation, feeling mad and more helpless as I watched my dad get the beating off his life. ★★★★★ “Please let me in. I need to see the Boss” I pleaded, my heart sinking as I realized this was becoming a failed attempt The man who stood by the gate looked at me carefully, releasing a long stretched sigh “If the boss ever finds out that I let the daughter of a thief in here, he will kill me” he explained in a defeated tone “I won't let him know I received any help” I replied, trying to convince him Shaking his head, the man turned towards a gold-coated gate and typed in a passcode “Walk into your funeral miss” Immediately I wiped the stars off my eyes and walked into the huge mansion, singing songs of praises towards the man in an attempt to appreciate him. However, the man gave no response and only acted like I'd become invisible, but none of that mattered; nothing mattered except my dad and my family. Drawing in a deep breath, I prepared for the worst that could happen and walked into the mansion. The thought of running out and changing my plans flooded my head, but I decided to just continue what I'd started already. This could be my end but It was what I needed to do to save my dad. I walked closer to the door and much to my surprise, it opened as soon as I got close to it. Maybe this was a sign from God that everything was going to work out just fine, or maybe it was a trap orchestrated by the devil himself. I chose to go with the former “Mr Kenneth,” I called out at first, but there was no response. My voice only seems to bounce back at me from the wide and empty space. “Mr. Kenneth, please release my father. I will pay you your money” I screamed at the top of my lungs still nothing. Was this even a good idea? I thought to myself as hopelessness began to set in “Your father owes me two hundred million dollars” his deep and distant voice sent chills down my spine and I tightly gripped the cross bag I had over my shoulder “Please can you let my father go? He could die if your men keep hitting him. He is old and I know you're not a killer” I said, my voice trembling slightly at his piercing gaze “But I am” his response made me shiver and my throat suddenly went dry “If you can pay me the money in the next 24 hours then I will let your father go” “But I don't have that kind of money” I muttered under my breath, a wave of hopelessness washing over me His cold eyes scanned me from head to toe and I sacredly took a step backwards under his intense gaze. “There's another way.” his words felt like a light suddenly shining at the end of a tunnel. I waited for him to speak further, my heart suddenly racing in excitement “I can release you after but you will have to take his place and marry my son” I knew exactly where he was going but the bit of dread I felt earlier suddenly hit me like a brick again “I don't understand” I whispered, my voice barely audible “if I must let one prisoner go then there must be someone willing to replace the old one. Do you want your dad to be set free? Then I will set him free if only you replace him as my prisoner and marry my son” A cold and suffocating silence enveloped us both. It was me or my father and as much as I loved my father, sacrificing myself was something I never thought I would do. My family has been nothing but cold to me. They treated me with disrespect and never cared for me. I was about to go to medical school but getting married now could change everything. But doing this now could also be my chance to make them appreciate and love me. They could finally see I'm useful as my sister and very helpful But if I didn't save Dad now and he died, they would blame me for his death till the day I die. “You don't seem to like my offer so I will call my men to finish him off so you can_” “I'll do it,” I uttered in urgency. “I'd replace my dad and marry your son,” I said, interrupting him from speaking or taking any more action I might regret.
