A loud noise echoed off the trees. My eyes were closed shut waiting for the pain to happen. It never came. I peeked out from one eye and noticed a woman standing in front of me with her arms stretched out around me.
“What do you think you are doing Atahsaia?” She growled out. I peaked above the lady’s shoulder to see the man that almost dined on me.
“What does it look like? You’re interrupting my dinner. Move out of the way or you’ll be next, nymph.”
I noticed her body tensed up at the mention of her being dined on as well. f**k, I hope she doesn’t change her mind and leave me here with this creep. I reached out to pull on her blouse. “please save me,” I whispered to her. She turned slightly towards me, giving me a tight smile, then nodding her head. I felt relief wash over me that I wouldn’t be alone.
“You don’t want to do this Atahsaia. Leave us.”
He took a step forward while liking his bottom lip. “I’m going to enjoy this meal.”
“Don’t make me fight against you. You’re nothing.”
“Oh, we will have to see about that. Nothing tastes better than a savory meal that put up a fight.” He seemed so deranged.
I heard footsteps start approaching us. The whole forest went silent to them.
“What about now Atahsaia. Do you want to stick around and become dinner for him?” Her body relaxed at that.
I’m curious, what does she mean by that. Who is she referring to? I noticed panic reflecting in the man’s eyes as he looked around the forest for a sign. He turned towards us hissing before taking off into the woods.
“How are you holding up?” I picked up my head to notice her talking to me. This was the first time since the incident that I noticed her. She was beautiful standing around 4 foot and 9 inches wearing a pretty pale green dress that went mid-thigh with long white wavy hair that flowed to her knees, slim body, porcelain skin, pink-orange pouty lips, hazel eyes, and rosy cheeks.
“I don’t know. I was almost dinner.” I said sarcastically. “What was that thing?”
“A demon that feast on humans.”
“A demon?” I shouted at her.
“Yes.”
I stared at her dumbfounded. “Why did he call you a nymph?” She shrugged her shoulders. “are you?”
“Of course not.” She stated.
“Okay, so we’re all human here. He was just some lunatic who carved his teeth and you just happen to be a human passing by.” I mumbled trying to convince myself.
“Not exactly. He’s a demon created that way. It helps him eat properly. and I’m not a human.” She stated nonchalantly.
“What are you?” I said while narrowing my eyes at her in suspicion. Out of no where she turns around in a fighting stance.
“We need to leave before he comes back with more.” She said with a tense voice.
“There’s more?” I gulped.
She turned to look at me before lunging, wrapping her hands around my shoulders. I gasped and realized that we were now somewhere else. She let go of me to sit down on a seat made of vines and roots growing from the ground. I looked around; it was breathtaking. There were fireflies all over lighting the scenery. There was a waterfall next to where the women seated herself. Everything seemed to glow in the dark. I noticed another seat on the opposite side of her with a table between them. The table looked the same as the seats.
“Come sit.” She waved her hand towards the empty spot. I nodded my head before I began to walk over. “What’s your name?”
“Keira.”
“Ah, Keira. My name is Hazel.” She smiled at me.
“How did you do that?” I asked her in disbelief.
“Do what?” She seemed confused.
“Just a second ago we were somewhere else and now we’re here.”
Just as I said that her mouth turned into a ‘o’ as realization dawned on her.
“Oh, I teleported us back here.”
My jaw dropped. Great, she really was telling the truth. She’s not some mental patient that escaped the hospital. This whole situation was becoming very surreal.
“What are you doing out here?” She asked me, her voice laced with concern.
Everything came back to me. I felt panic overwhelming me and then I felt warmth seeping into my hand. I looked down and noticed she had grabbed my hand as if to comfort me. Maybe she could help me get out of here and back to my normal life. I looked back at her.
“I was kidnapped and brought here to a cabin.” My voice started shaking. “Please help me! I need to get out of here and go back home.”
“Do you know who kidnapped you?”
“Yes, my professor, Damen.”
Jade’s eyes widen once she heard the name. She looked down to the table as I noticed her expression reflecting from conflict and her lips turned into a tight line. She looked at me once more with sadness in her eyes.
“I’m sorry Keira.” She whispered.
“What do you mean?” My eyes widen as the idea came into my head. “Can you maybe do the teleport thing you did a second ago so I can go back home?”
“I wish I could.” She whispered out again in shame. “Damen is a very dangerous demon.”
“What do you mean?” my voice started shaking. “He’s a demon?”
“Not just any kind of demon. One of the most powerful. I made a promise to him. If I cross him it would be the end of me.” Tears started rolling down her eyes. “He’ll be looking for you.” She gave me an empathetic look before reaching out to me.
My face paled as I realized what she is trying to do. I tried my best to move away but it was too late. She teleported me back to the one place I dreaded. I opened my eyes to see I was in the middle of his room.
“Please Jade, don’t do this!” I begged her as tears started falling down my cheek.
“It will be okay, I promise.” She gave a sad smile. “You’re not alone. You can always say my name and I’ll be here.”
“Please don’t leave me here!” I cried even harder that before.
She cupped my cheeks while brushing off my tears with her thumb. I noticed she was still crying.
“This will be my gift to you.” She said before leaning towards me to kiss my forehead. “It’s my blessing. It will protect you.” Then she disappeared into thin air.
The bedroom door opened to reveal the monster I was left to deal with alone.
“Look who finally decided to come back. Did you have an eventful day?” He said while smirking at me.
