Delaney popped a piece of strawberry danish into her mouth and gave a little groan of happiness. “Okay, this was a good idea. Thanks for inviting me to breakfast, Aunt Val.”
Val forked up a bite of ooey gooey cinnamon roll. “I figured you could use a little indulgence after that...unpleasantness yesterday. And I know you hate it, but it’s good for you to be seen in public. You’ve got nothing to hide.”
That was true enough, but it went against Delaney’s instincts. At the first hint of scandal, she wanted to disappear. She wondered if she’d ever be known as anything other than “that girl who went crazy on her ex and his woman on the side.”
“—saw the smoke from my house last night.”
