Chapter One_Nightmare Again
His hands were drenched in blood. Beads of sweat broke lose on his forehead as he knelt beside the almost lifeless man, Samuel Evander, his beloved father. "Stay with me..please stay..stay with me father" the young man cried helplessly. His world is crumbling right before him and there is nothing he could do at the moment. Jason's eyes darted to the other corner of the room, there, on the hard cold but tiled floor lies his mother, Sarah Evander.the poor woman fighting hard for her life as she wriggled in a pool of her own blood. Jason's vision blurred at once. The next moment, he saw himself glide into another scene. His parents laid side by side on a stretcher in an ambulance. The rapidly beeping monitor increased Jason's heart rate. Father, moth..er..please..please stay with me. Suddenly everything came to a stop as those tiny dancing lines on the monitor, came flat with a long endless beep. "No father..no, please...!!!" Jason's lung gave way as he screamed their names. Somewhere from above, cold water splashed on him and a shrieking sharp voice jolted him up. "Deryk!? Wake up you moron!" the familiar voice was none other but his wife's. Deryk jerked and found himself falling hard with a thud on the floor. He was soaked in his own sweat and his wife's glass of water. He looked up from hooded eyes, at Catherine's figure hovering over him. "Hey babe" He said drowsily. He has been dreaming . A nightmare rather. Memories of his parents keep coming back and torturing his sleep for as long as he could remember. Everything that happened three years ago, the day he lost his parents, always played on his mind and in his sleep. "Can't I afford to have some moment of peaceful sleep after a tedious day in the office too, all because of your traditional nightmare? It's not your fault anyway, it's the only thing losers are good at" She rolled her eyes back with a disgusted look plastering her face. She tried hard to mask the slight concern she has for Jason, each time he sleeps and talked out loud to some invisible persons while dreaming. Catherine turned, picked up her phone and returned to bed. "Do I have to remind you always? You are getting dumber by the day, Jason. Get my night juice!" She snapped again while typing away on her phone's keyboard. Jason crashed back into the couch. Though, now damp and wet from the cold water splashed on it, Jason didn't mind at all. He has gotten more used to it now. "Go to bed, honey" he said drowsil again. "You don't wish I repeat myself again, do you?" she yelled. Jason draggingly got off the couch while eyeing his wife and strides off to the kitchen. It has always been like this for three whole years now. In fact, it is his daily routine. He returned to the room and placed the tall glass of raspberry juice on the bedside table. "The light!" she snapped at him as he made for the couch. The two have never once shared a bed before. Yes, their matrimonial bed. While Catherine always had the bed to herself, Jason was made to stick to the couch, no matter how much he protested. He threw himself on the couch again. Just as he did so, he felt something hard landing on his back. Catherine's phone. He quickly cupped his armed backwards and caught it before it slipped from there to the hard floor. Deryk saw it coming. This isn't the first time. "Now hand me my phone" Catherine stretched out a hand with a flat expression. Jason went to the switch and flipped the light off, throwing the room into darkness. Jason could hear Catherine shrieked in the dark, as her phone is not with her. Jason taking advantage of the Dark room, tiptoed to the bed. Once Catherine felt the bed moved, she became agitated "Get out!" She ordered in her usual bitchy voice, startling Jason. He quickly left the phone beside her and moved to to his own 'bed'. ********** It's morning and morning duties are for no one but Jason's. As he climbed down the stairs to the living room, on his way to the lawn outside, he bumps into Catherine's mother, Cherrie Rotthorne. "There you are!" she called gleefully "You ought to always be up more early, so much needs to be done in the house before seven and it's few minutes to eight already" she eyed him, stopping him in his track. "Good morning Mrs. Rotthorne" Jason waved with a grin, ignoring her taunting words. He has long stopped calling her 'mother' ever since she warned him not to address her so. "What's so good about the morning when you haven't yet done my laundry since yesterday? Well, serves you right. There's more for you to wash now" she narrowed her brows and disappeared into the room close by, then came out immediately with a pile of clothes in her arms. She dumped them on him, shoving them over his chest. "Thank me for making you do one useful thing in your wretched life. The machine is faulty and you have to serve in its place, for the time being, maybe forever" she walked away with a triumphant look on her face. The old lady is getting worse by the day, Jason thought, as he grabbed unto the pile of clothes, holding his breath. He heard footsteps and he looked up to see Catherine, all glammed for work. She is a glorious beauty to behold. Jason's eyes drooled over her as she descended. Catherine saw the heaps of cloth in his hand and merely rolled her eyes backwards. Just then, Catherine's younger sister approached "Hey dirty Jason" she jinxed, "Put out the trash can in my room and empty it, can't stand the smell in there, but you can. After all, you smell similar" she raked him with her eyes in his tattered clothes from his toes upward and down again. He is not able to change what he wears around the house as constantly as he wants. House chores always got the better of him. Jason looked back at his wife approaching, to see if her expression moved even one bit but he saw nothing. She held a straight face and walked passed them, then stopped abruptly "Don't forget the car, Jason. Get it cleaned and ready for me before six" she breeze out of the house without looking back. "Not even a peck for me Cathy! I do all these but always get nothing in return huh" He yelled after her. The sound of a mocking laughter responded. Jason turned to look at Catherine's brother, Evans. Evans shook his head as he came out from a room whose door is across the living room "Loser! I wonder what my sister saw in you. Man you are big joke" he spat, disapperaing in the other room. This is the Rotthorne's family and a little glimpse of how Jason is living with them ever since he stepped into this villa as their useless son-inlaw. If not for the unconditional love for his wife he would have ran off somewhere very far where this Rotthorne or 'wrathful' family would never hear from him again. If only his wife would look at him with care and love, even for a second. "What useless thoughts occupies your useless mind this morning?" A hoarse voice broke into his thoughts. "Good morning Mr Rotthorne" Jason greeted Catherine's father while clutching firmer unto the laundry in his arms. He is the worst amongst them all, but always act oblivious of everything going on. "Set the table for breakfast" he ordered, scanning the cloths in Jason's hand briefly before heading to the dining area. He is a man too for crying out loud. How can he be so unconcerned? Jason fumed. To Mr. Rotthorne's surprise, Jason looked away and walked off suddenly without looking back.
