Chapter 14 Lady Duxelle followed King Carrodias down into the grotto beneath the castle. King Carrodias hadn’t spoken since they’d left New Eaton. He walked with a quick pace down the castle hallways, and she struggled to keep up with him, her aching muscles protesting each step. The king walked to the center of the room where the Cube shimmered with light, then stood in front of the Cube and held his hands over it as if it were warming him. “I’ve wasted my time, haven’t I?” the king asked. “I’ve been trying to find solutions to the war that didn’t involve violence. I’ve been wrong all this time.” Lady Duxelle’s heart began to beat quickly. “You’re not making sense,” she said.
