Chapter Eighteen: Awakening

257 Words
ELIJAH'S POV I sat beside Emilia's bed, my eyes fixed on her pale face. She had been asleep for hours, and I was getting anxious. I needed her to wake up, to talk to her, to make sure she was okay. Sarah came into the room, a cup of coffee in her hand. "Elijah, you need to take a break," she said. "You've been sitting there for hours." I shook my head. "I'm not leaving her side." Sarah sighed. "Fine, but at least drink this." She handed me the coffee, and I took a sip, my eyes never leaving Emilia's face. Just then, Emilia stirred. Her eyes flickered open, and she looked up at me, confused. "Elijah?" she whispered. I took her hand, relief washing over me. "I'm here," I said. "You're safe." Emilia looked around, taking in the hospital room. And then her eyes landed on me, and she remembered. She remembered what she saw, what I am. Her eyes widened in fear, and she tried to pull her hand away. "What...what are you?" she stammered. I held her hand tight. "Emilia, I'm still me," I said. "I just...I have a secret." Emilia shook her head, her eyes filling with tears. "You're a monster," she whispered. I felt a pang of hurt, but I knew she was just scared. "Emilia, please listen to me," I said. "I would never hurt you." But Emilia just shook her head, her eyes fixed on me in fear. And I knew I had to do something to make her understand.
