"You want your corporate throne back, Valentina?

Beg for it," Voss rasps, crowding me into the corner. His knee parts my legs with brutal ease, and his hand slides down, finding me slick and desperate. "Let me suck your pleasure off my fingers while you take every inch of me."

"You don't own me, Voss," I grit out, shoving my gun against his throat even as my hips traitorously tilt into his hand.

He laughs—a dark, wicked sound—and hoists me up against the concrete. "Wrap those f*****g legs around me, Valentina. Let me feel your nails in my back and your teeth in my shoulder while I stretch you out against this wall."

His teeth bite hard into the shell of my ear, sending a hot, maddening shiver down my spine as his voice drops to a low, rough growl against my neck.

"You're dripping for me, little princess... Accept it. You know that by the time I'm done with you, you'll be begging me not to stop."

He spent years watching her from the dark. She spent her life learning how to kill monsters like him.

When betrayal shatters her inner circle, Valentina Sterling is locked in a subterranean bunker with Voss—her father’s greatest enemy and her dirtiest obsession. Trapped together with guns drawn and blood on their hands, their murderous tension ignites into a raw, possessive frenzy.

Explicit 18+ content. Loaded with dirty talk, high-stakes violence, and dark, obsessive dominance.

CHAPTER 1: LITTLE STERLING
He doesn’t knock. Voss never has. The heavy mahogany door to my executive suite doesn’t open; it yields to him. Outside in the antechamber, the sudden silence is absolute as my personal security detail steps back and lowers their eyes. Only Mira, my trusted executive assistant and logistics coordinator stationed at her desk just beyond the threshold, holds her ground. She doesn’t flinch, meeting my gaze through the glass partition before subtly tapping her earpiece once to signal that the digital monitors are already tracking his perimeter breach. They all know exactly who just walked onto my floor. Black suit. Black eyes. A jagged vertical scar cutting through his left eyebrow that matches the brutal symmetry of his handsome face. At thirty-two, he is the undisputed head of the Syndicate and the king of the northern docks. I have felt his eyes on me for six years, ever since I was eighteen, standing in the shadows of rain-slicked shipping yards and opulent galas. "Valentina." He says my name like a claim. "You intercepted my container, Container Seven-Nine," Voss states, his voice a low, gravelly hum that vibrates through the floorboards. "That is stealing." I lean back in my father’s oversized leather chair, my Louboutin stilettos resting casually on the edge of the polished mahogany desk. My father had despised this custom desk, always claiming it looked less like a workspace and more like a heavy stone throne built for an exile. My black dress rides high up my thigh, exposing bare skin. I watch the exact second his gaze drops, tracking slowly down my legs. His eyes darken, the heavy air turning to electricity as he registers the provocation. Power is a performance. You make the predators underestimate the woman in the dress until she is the last thing they see before the lights go out. "I bought it," I correct him, keeping my voice utterly detached. "Legally, on paper, through a shell company and a proxy bid that Mira built and executed before your auto-bidders even woke up." "You used a proxy bid to pull a container off my dock," Voss replies, taking a single deliberate step forward. His shoes make zero sound on the marble floor until he is rounding the desk. He doesn’t ask for permission. He places one large, calloused hand flat on the wood, and the other grips the high back of my leather chair, caging me in completely. The physical heat radiating off him is instant and suffocating, smelling of heavy smoke and expensive cedar. My pulse spikes, a rhythmic, treacherous thud against my ribs as I force my breathing to remain even. Outside the floor-to-ceiling glass walls, the cold rain lashes violently against the penthouse windows, mirroring the storm trapped inside this office. I watch his jaw tighten. "You think you’re playing a game, little Sterling," he murmurs, leaning down until his mouth is inches from my ear. The rough edge of his voice sends a thrill down my spine. "You think sitting in this chair protects you from the monsters in the dark?" "I think you underestimate me, Voss. And I think dominant men are boring," I whisper, turning my head just enough so my lips are close to his jaw. "They all want to be obeyed." "And dominant women?" "We want to see if you can survive us." I say this slowly, biting my lower lip while my gaze stays locked to his, never breaking eye contact for a single heartbeat. I know exactly what I am doing. Something dark and feral flashes in his eyes. The air between us instantly ignites with pure, concentrated danger. He leans in closer, his gaze dropping to my mouth. The tension is thick enough to shatter glass. I am twenty-four. I have been CEO of Sterling International for exactly six months. Six months since they called me in the middle of the night to tell me my father, Arthur Sterling, died in this very chair of an official cardiac arrest before the police closed the file in forty-eight hours with a paid-off coroner and wiped footage. But what he left behind in this very room was a locked desk drawer containing a second encrypted burner phone, alongside a secret file taped securely under the desk with a brass key and a handwritten note reading: *FOR WHEN I AM GONE*. As Voss cages me in, I feel the crushing weight of everything pressing down on me. The board of directors has spent half a year demanding I sell out and hand over the empire. The burner phone hidden inside that locked drawer buzzed quietly for the very first time this morning after six months of dead silence—the exact same morning Voss decided to walk through my doors. The financial press waits eagerly for my every misstep, watching for me to break under the pressure. The brutal men who once answered only to my father assume I am weak, expecting me to be quiet, to be pretty, to be manageable in a world built for wolves. They do not realize I am none of those things. Every single day is a calculated battle to keep my grip on an inheritance they want to tear from my fingers. Voss stares down at me like a wild animal staring at its prey, his chest rising and falling against the barrier of my chair, completely unfazed by the corporate war raging outside these walls. "Careful, Valentina," he murmurs, dropping his voice into a lethal, silken threat. "Keep playing queen and I will put you on my throne just to watch you beg me not to let you down." "I am the depth," I say softly, looking dead into his eyes. Hate and want are the two things I’ve never been able to separate when he is in the room. He has always been an untouchable king, but right now, he is just a man standing in my office trying to back me into a corner. Slowly, my right hand sweeps down the side of my black dress. The silk parts under my fingertips. I slide my hand under the hem, tracing my bare skin until I find the matte-black leather of the custom tactical holster strapped to my thigh. In a blur of practiced motion, I draw the cold steel. Before he can shift his weight, I bring the suppressed barrel up and press it directly beneath his jawline, forcing his chin up. Voss stops breathing. The office is completely silent except for the drumming rain outside. He doesn’t flinch. Instead, a slow, wicked shadow of amusement crosses his face. Deliberately, without breaking eye contact, he steps forward, closing the final inch of space. He presses his throat harder against the metal until the cold steel bites into his skin, daring me to pull the trigger. "A princess like you shouldn’t carry a gun," Voss murmurs, his lips barely moving against the barrel, the heat of his breath washing over my skin. "That’s what kings are for." "You’re no king to me, Voss," I whisper, my finger tightening just a fraction on the trigger. "You’re just another body in my way." His chest expands against mine, slow and deliberate. "You think a piece of metal makes you dangerous?" he asks, his voice dropping an octave. "You haven't even seen what danger looks like yet." "Try me." "Not here. Not now," Voss growls. His hand leaves the back of my chair to wrap around my wrist. His fingers grip me with iron pressure. With a slow, deliberate twist, he forces my hand downward, pushing the barrel away until the gun rests uselessly against my lap. He leans down, his lips brushing the shell of my ear. "We’re just getting started, Valentina. Enjoy your little victories while you can. Because when I take what’s mine, you won't even remember how to hold a weapon." He releases my wrist, stepping back with lethal grace and pulling the door shut behind him. I sit frozen in my chair, the phantom heat of his large body still radiating against my skin while my pulse thuds wildly in my veins and the secret file taped under the wood with its brass key feels like it is burning a hole right through the desk. Before I can catch my breath, the secure intercom on the edge of the mahogany desk crackles to life, cutting through the stillness of the penthouse. *“Miss Sterling,”* Mira’s voice cuts through the speaker, tight and urgent. *“Customs just flagged an override code on Container Seven-Nine. Someone is breaking the seal right now.”*
