“-and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight" My dance teacher called out to me as I performed a small number she taught the class. "Good London, just remember to use tense movements as you rise from the ground to relieve"
"Okay, madam Faas," I said bowing my head to her. I stood up straight and walked to the dressing rooms to get changed for my next class. I put a headband around my hair moving my hair backward and I put on my regular school uniform. Opal High School For The Arts is one of the most prestigious schools in the whole world. Just being at this school is a great honor itself.
I looked in the mirror one last time making sure I looked my best for the choir. I started to head to the choir and on the way, I saw my best friend Jasper.
"Now if it isn't the wonderful, talented, and charming London Walker" He shouted as he walked my way. I chuckled a little bit and then I gave him a small hug."How was your, cupcake" He asked
"Like any other, after school, I'll be headed to my parents' house for spring break, What about you?" I asked him as we headed to the choir.
"I'm going to Panama with my grandma" He answered as he attempted to salsa which is not even the right culture of dance.
"Well, I hope you have an amazing time in Panama," I said as we walked into class taking our seats. The instructor came in and we began to get started with vocal warm-ups. We were all warmed up and the instructor began her announcement.
"London Walker, you are the lead soloist for our performance and Jasper will be your back up vocalist" The instructor announced and my heart burst with happiness. I turned to hug Jasper who already was already waiting for me to hug me. We hugged for three seconds and we broke apart. "London, please come to the front of the class and begin with your solo"
I stood up from my chair and headed towards the front of the class. I grabbed one of the songbooks and opened it up and began singing my solo.
Time went by as I sang and practice harmonizing with the altos, sopranos, and tenors. The bell rang while we were on our last song and everyone got up to go get their bags ready for their families to pick them up for spring break. I got all my things together and started to head for the door but the instructor stopped me for a second.
"London, I hope you have a wonderful spring break," she said as she hugged me tightly. I smiled and said "you too" as I walked to my room to go get my bags.
I got to the room that thankfully has to myself and opened it. My room was just as plain as everyone else's but my walls were painted a nice lavender color and I had a great view of the mountains that were behind the student building. I grabbed my bags and headed out the door locking it behind. I headed to my ocean blue Jeep that I call opal.
I started her up and pulled out of my parking space. I drove away from the school headed towards the main highway. My parents' house is like an hour and some change away from the school.
My dad was the one who got me into the school I go to now and my mom was the one who helped me practice for my dance and choir auditions that I had to do before I got accepted. I don't really know what my mom or dad does for work but all I know is that they are good at managing money and finances sometimes Jasper will joke around and say they are spy's for the FBI or Drug Dealers but if he'd met my parents he would know that could never be either one of those.
It was now six-thirty p.m. and I had about fifty-something minutes until I got home so I decided to stop by the local McDonald's and grab some food because knowing them, they would have forgotten I was coming home tonight. I waited in the drive-thru line behind a black Range Rover that took forever to order their food. It was finally my turn to order my food and I drove up a little. I ordered a large Macchiato with large fries and a twenty-piece nugget.
I got my total and drove forward to pay at the next window and I so happened to be stuck behind the Range Rover again, so I turned on the radio. All that was on was the recent gang events that have been happening. The one gang that has everyone scared is the 'Black Spades'.
They are one of the deadliest gangs around most people who know about them are either in the gang or dead. No one has ever seen the gang leader most say he is in his fifties and some say he was the one behind all the shootings in New Orleans but who knows as long as I keep my distance I'm good.
The Range Rover in front of me finally moved and I went to pay. I came to the window to see a male with a black spade tattoo on his neck. This is the new norm I guess. Teens joining gangs just because it's fun or because they are helping their families. I gave him the money plus a tip because I'm feeling generous. I drove up, got my food and drink, and headed back on the road.
I was now twenty minutes from the house and everything looks so different from only three months ago. All the walls were plastered with black spades and other gang art. I sighed knowing that my hometown was being destroyed by the very gang everyone fears. I finally came up to my neighborhood and everything as the same. Everything was right where it was and no black spades were painted anywhere.
I drove up to my parent's house and parked in the driveway behind a White and pastel pink car. I grabbed my bags and headed towards the door. I got my spare out of my back pocket and unlock the door. I walked in and everything was quiet.
"I'm home" I yelled walking towards the living room looking for my parents but to my surprise wasn't there then I walked into the kitchen and saw them tied up to a chair with bruises all over there faces. They were also sandwiched between a black male who held his gun on the table as he leaned back in the chair.
"Welcome home, London"
