Chapter 31A soft tickle to his cheek woke Thoth and he opened his eyes to see Juniper smiling down at him, a sprig of foliage in his hand.
“I know it’s still dusk, but you were keen to get back to Tesseract and this time is the quietest.” Juniper kissed him. “I thought we should make a move. Get you and Custos to Tesseract and I can be back in my fields by the time anyone comes to check. I have a lot to do to catch up.”
“Yes, you’re right, and I wish I could let you have Custos to help you.” Thoth took a deep breath and a thought struck him. “I suppose he could…if you made sure that he remained out of direct sight of anyone approaching and set him to detect any personnel heading in your direction. That way you could hide or disguise him.”
