Chapter Thirteen With one hand over my mouth, I staggered backward and slumped against the wall. My brain couldn’t quite process the officer’s words. Deborah was dead. How? Why? “Are you sure?” I asked. “Affirmative. We’ve been doing this a long time,” the officer said. Now I understood why the other officer was talking into his phone and not speaking to Deborah or handcuffing her. He must be calling an ambulance to come and take her away.
