Chapter 1
"Lazy fat b***h!" The nasally voice of my mother wakes me up. I look quickly at the time. Crap! I'm so late! Preparing myself for the verbal onslaught of abuse, I open my bedroom door. My mother, Agatha Hunt, is standing there with her arms crossed. "What took you so long fat ass?" she says extremely calmly, which makes my stomach sink. When she talks so calmly I know I'm in really big trouble. "I'm sorry mama, my alarm is broken. I'll get busy right now," I speak quickly, hoping she will just let me pass. I know if I'm any later my dad will appear. "What exactly do you expect us to do about it? That is no excuse for not having your chores done before you pretend to go to school!". She never believes that I actually go to school. She always says I'm out messing around with boys, even though she also says I'm too ugly for any guy to be interested in me. She raises her hand and starts to swing it towards my face. I flinch, cowering down a bit, even though I know she won't actually hit me. "I will go to the second hand store after school today and see about getting a new one mama", I say, my voice shaking. "You better stop calling me mama before I beat you to within an inch of your miserable life!" "Yes ma'am, I'm sorry!!" I cry out before running off towards the kitchen to start breakfast. I hustle, making bacon, eggs, and toast for my family. Then I grab a bowl for my cereal and take it back to my room. My name is Hope. My parents are Agatha and Lowell Hunt. I am the oldest of five kids, the other four being two mixed sets of twins. We all used to play together constantly, but now they either hurl insults or completely ignore me whenever we cross paths. I am a senior in high school, and very excited to graduate. Once I finish school I will leave this house and never look back! Unfortunately I ran into Sammy and Sidney, the oldest set of twins, on the way to my room. They are a year younger than I am, with gorgeous black eyes and beautiful curly dark brown hair. "Well if it isn't Hopeless," Sid says snidely. "Did you manage to make breakfast without burning anything this time?" They both laugh hysterically, like Sid has just told the funniest joke ever. "I only burnt the food one time! Why can't you let it go?" I snap back at him angrily. I know better than to argue with any of the twins, but sometimes I just can't help myself. "You better watch your mouth b***h or I'll make sure Daddy locks you up again!" This from Sammy, always quick to defend her twin. I hear two more sets of feet pounding down the hall as Brook and Brayden show up, always ready to back up the older twins. "Why exactly do you think you can even speak to us like you're part of this family?" Brayden speaks up. Then it was Brook's turn. "It's because she doesn't have a brain to think with," she giggles and continues "Let's go eat so we can get to school on time. She's just trying to make us late." She raises her cute little nose in the air, grabs Brayden on one side and Sidney on the other, and proceeds to trip as she tries to march away. I couldn't help my smile as the boys steady her and they all proceed down the stairs and into the dining room. Once I was positive they were gone I sprinted to my room, grabbed some clothes, then headed in to take a shower. My younger siblings are just as gorgeous as my older ones. They have rich, wavy, black hair and deep indigo eyes. Sammy and Sidney have a deep chocolate coloring, their skin flawless. Brook and Brayden are more of a lighter mocha coloring, also with flawless skin. I am the different one. Where Sidney and Brayden top 6 ft at 17 and 15 respectively, Sammy and Brook are 5'7 and 5'8 with curvy figures. Not chubby like me, just perfectly curvy. All of them are extremely popular in school with the opposite s*x. Suddenly I realize the water has gone cold. Oh no! I've been in here too long! Not only am I going to be late for school, I will most likely end up in lockdown tonight. f**k my life.
