A Fateful Decision Selene's instincts took over before she could think. The moment Damian's fingers brushed against her wrist, she bolted. A gasp echoed through the hall, but she barely heard it over the thunder of her heartbeat. She didn't care. She needed to run. Her boots barely touched the polished marble floor as she darted down the hallway, shoving past wolves who had no time to react. "Stop her!" someone shouted. A guard lunged at her, but Selene twisted away, barely dodging his grip. The hallway ahead split into two paths— left or right. Which way led outside? Her mind spun. She didn't know this packhouse. Every corridor looked the same-dark wood, stone walls, gold chandeliers casting an eerie glow. But she couldn't stop. Selene took the left. She sprinted through the narrow passage, her wolf howling in her mind. Faster. Move faster. Another pair of footsteps closed in behind her. She could hear them breathing-they were close. Shards rained around her as shhapter 4: A Wolf on the Run e twisted midair, bracing for impact,Then-she hit the ground. Pain shot through her knees as she landed in a crouch, breathing hard. She had made it outside. Now she had to keep running. The Alpha's Fury From inside the packhouse, Damian watched her fall. His hands clenched into fists at his sides, his wolf roaring in rage. The stubborn little rogue. He should have expected this. She had fire in her. A part of him respected it. But another part-the Alpha in him— was furious. His golden eyes darkened. "She won't get far," Cassandra said behind him, voice filled with amusement. "You should've just marked her when you had the chance." Damian ignored her. "She thinks she can outrun me," he muttered, his voice dangerously low. Cassandra scoffed. "She's fast, I'll give her that. But you know as well as I do— she won't make it past the gates." Damian smirked. Selene was quick. But he was faster. Without another word, he shifted. The Chase Begins Selene could hear the howls before she even reached the forest . They were coming. She pushed herself harder, leaping over a fallen log as she darted into the thick trees. The cold night air stung her lungs, but she kept moving. Every second counted. If she could just reach the territory border, she could disappear. Her muscles burned as she weaved between the towering pines, dodging branches and roots. Her wolf begged her to shift. Not yet. She needed to get more distance first. Then—a new sound joined the chase. A low, rumbling snarl. Selene's stomach dropped. Damian. She didn't have to turn around to know. The power in that growl sent shivers down her spine. It was raw. Dangerous. Unstoppable. And it was getting closer. Too close. Selene pushed forward, her legs screaming in protest— Then— A massive shadow crashed through the trees. Before she could react, something slammed into her. The impact knocked the air from her lungs. She hit the ground hard, pain exploding through her ribs. Then-warmth. A heavy weight pressed her into the dirt. Selene gasped, eyes snapping open— Golden eyes stared down at her. Damian's wolf was enormous, his black fur shimmering under the moonlight. His powerful paws caged her in, keeping her pinned beneath him. Selene struggled, but it was useless. He was too strong. A deep growl rumbled from his throat, his breath hot against her skin. Selene glared at him. "Get. Off." Damian didn't move. His golden gaze burned into her, unreadable. Then, slowly, he shifted. Fur melted away, replaced by smooth, bare skin. And suddenly, Damian was human again. And-he was completely shirtless. Selene's breath hitched. Damn him. Even covered in dirt and sweat, he looked like a predator-his muscled chest rising and falling with controlled breaths, his golden eyes glowing in the darkness. His strong hands gripped her wrists, keeping her still. "You made a mistake, Selene," he murmured. Selene's heart pounded. Damian leaned in closer, his lips brushing against her ear. "You're mine now," he whispered. Selene refused to shiver. Instead, she gritted her teeth and spat, "I will never belong to you." Damian chuckled. And then He sank his teeth into to her neck.
