CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
PRIYAEmery has hovered around me all day like a shadow. Somehow, Kara and I got stuck with her. Jax disappeared, and Ben said he needed some time alone. My incident severely upset him. It’s not terrible, I guess, befriending a child. Except that every second is full of questions.
“Can I ask you another question?” Emery asks.
“It hasn’t stopped you so far,” I say.
“Priya, be nice. She’s just a little girl.” Kara says to me.
“Hey, I’m not that little. I’m twelve, practically an adult.” Emery says planting her hands on her hips.
“Yeah, you’re still a kid.” I say.
“Is anyone a kid in this place?” She asks raising her eyebrow at me.
I stop and look at her, my eyes tripling in size.
“She’s got you there, Priya,” Kara says, shrugging her shoulders.
