CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT
JAXAs I watch Priya run away from me, I realize that time is rushing at me. Every passing minute reminds me harshly that the end of this beginning is near. In mere days, I’ll have to return to my world and leave all this behind. This thought fills me with sadness as Ben, Kara, and Emery approach me. The water is appearing to clean them of the previous day’s woes.
“So, the strangest thing just happened. Priya was running, as she does. I waved to her and she sprinted in the opposite direction,” Kara states flippantly.
Ben grimaces, “Don’t take it personally, Kara. I’m sure it wasn’t anything we did.”
“I’m not. I’m simply pointing it out.”
