The Alpha's Claim

1093 Words
Leah's mind spun in chaos. She wasn’t sure what was more overwhelming—the aching pain in her body, the warmth of Logan’s arms around her, or the sheer disbelief of what had just happened. "You belong to me now." The words echoed in her mind, heavy, absolute. Logan carried her effortlessly through the dense forest, his steps calculated and silent. The moon barely filtered through the trees, casting shadows across his sharp, unreadable features. He smelled like the wild—like rain and earth, mixed with something darker, something dangerous. Leah tried to wriggle out of his grip, but his arms tightened just enough to still her. "Put me down," she demanded, though her voice came out weaker than she intended. Logan didn’t even glance at her. "You can barely stand, let alone run. I suggest you stop wasting energy." She clenched her jaw, frustration flaring in her chest. "You can't just take me. I don’t belong to anyone." This time, he did look at her, his storm-gray eyes piercing into her own. "You were left in my territory, Omega. That makes you mine." Leah stiffened. Mine. The word made her stomach twist. She had spent her entire life being no one’s, being discarded and overlooked. And now, suddenly, she was his? She bit the inside of her cheek, forcing herself to stay calm. "I didn’t mean to be here. I was just… running." "From what?" She hesitated. She didn’t want to admit it. Didn’t want to relive the humiliation. "My pack," she finally muttered. Logan gave a slow nod, as if he had expected that answer. "Your mate rejected you." Her breath caught in her throat. How did he know? He must have sensed it—the broken bond, the hollowness she now carried inside her. Alphas could always tell. She turned her head away, shame burning her cheeks. "It doesn’t matter." "It does," Logan said simply, his voice steady, calm. "It’s why you’re here. Why you have nowhere to go." Leah swallowed hard. He wasn’t wrong. She had nothing now—no home, no purpose, no place where she belonged. A sharp wind cut through the night, making her shiver. She had been running for hours, dressed in nothing but a thin tunic that barely protected her from the cold. She didn’t have the strength to argue anymore. Her body, betraying her, sagged slightly against him. Logan’s grip adjusted, almost… gently. She hated the way that single movement sent warmth spreading through her chest. This was just survival. Nothing more. The forest began to thin, and in the distance, Leah saw flickers of light through the trees. A fortress of a packhouse came into view, larger than anything she had ever seen before. Dark stone walls stretched high, flames from the torches casting eerie shadows against them. This wasn’t just any pack. This was Ravenstone. Her blood ran cold. The most feared pack in existence. The one that had conquered countless others, ruled by an Alpha who had never lost a single battle. The place where rogues disappeared, never to be seen again. And Logan Hayes was their Alpha. She had to get out of here. Leah tensed, her pulse hammering. "Wait—" But before she could protest, the massive iron gates creaked open, and Logan carried her inside as if she belonged. --- Inside the Alpha’s Den The warmth hit her instantly. The inside of the packhouse was nothing like she had expected. Yes, it was dark, lined with thick stone walls and high ceilings that made it feel cavernous, but it was also alive. Wolves moved through the halls, warriors clad in black, their eyes flicking toward Logan with a mix of respect and caution. He was feared. Even here, in his own pack. Leah tried not to meet anyone’s gaze as Logan carried her up a grand staircase. She didn’t want to see the way they stared at her—didn’t want to hear whatever thoughts they had about an Omega in their Alpha’s arms. Finally, they reached a set of large double doors. Logan kicked them open, stepping into a dimly lit room. A bedroom. And not just any bedroom. The scent of him was everywhere—dark wood, leather, and something deeper, more intoxicating. A large bed sat against the far wall, draped in black. A fireplace crackled in the corner, the only source of warmth. Leah’s breath hitched as Logan set her down on the bed. For the first time, she felt just how cold she was. Her fingers trembled slightly as she wrapped her arms around herself, trying to fight the chill. Logan stood over her, his gaze unreadable. "Stay here." She blinked up at him. "And if I don’t?" His lips curled slightly—not a smile, but something close. "Then I’ll make sure you do." Her stomach twisted. She wasn’t used to this—this undeniable presence, the way he commanded everything without even trying. Damon had been powerful, yes, but Logan was something else entirely. Something dangerous. Before she could say anything else, Logan turned and walked toward the door. "Rest," he ordered. "You’ll need your strength." Then, without another word, he disappeared, the door clicking shut behind him. Leah sat there, her heart pounding. She should run. She had to. And yet… something about this place, about him, kept her still. Because for the first time in her life… She wasn’t sure if she wanted to leave. --- A Dangerous Fate Hours passed, but Leah barely slept. The warmth of the room helped, but her mind was racing. She wasn’t a prisoner—at least, not yet. Logan had left her unguarded, which meant she could try to escape. But where would she even go? Her ankle still ached from her fall, and she had no supplies, no direction. If she ran, she wouldn’t last long. She’d die out there, alone in the wilderness. And there was something else, something more terrifying than the unknown. Why had Logan looked at her necklace like that? No one had ever paid much attention to it before. It was just a small silver pendant, worn and old, something that had been with her since she was a baby. But when Logan saw it… something changed. As if he recognized it. Leah reached for the necklace, running her fingers over the smooth metal. What did it mean? And what the hell did Logan want with her? A shiver ran down her spine. She had a feeling she was about to find out.
