The bed was as soft as clouds, Apryl snuggled deeper into the blankets she didn't remember the bed at her new house being this comfortable. And she had been cold sleeping there the first night, she couldn't figure out how to start the fireplace, and she didn't have extra blankets, so she had curled into a ball on the hard mattress and tried to sleep. Her eyes fluttered open, based on the small amount of light coming from the window shades. It was early morning.      How had she gotten home? She couldn't remember the hike back. Looking around she began to realize this wasn't her room. And this definitely wasn’t her cabin. Laying there in the comfortable warm atmosphere; she was curious as to where she was, but there was no fear or anxiety one would expect if waking in a strange place. There was shifting beside her and her gaze snapped to the sound. She hadn’t thought to look around to see if she was alone or not. She simply felt too comfortable to even think about it. To her surprise there beside her was a man far too large for the chair. She couldn’t help but to stare, he was strikingly handsome. He had strong facial features that most would find a little terrifying. Sharp cheekbones, slender nose, dark eyelashes that lay among his cheeks as he slept. His hair was so dark black, it resembled  the midnight sky. It was untamed from his slumber and only added to his attractiveness. His breathing steady and even, she felt completely safe in the midst of this strange man. As if he sensed her staring at him his eyes slowly fluttered open, finally finding focus on her face.  "Hey, your awake. How are you feeling?" his voice was deep and utterly sexy causing her breath to hitch in her throat. "Where am I?" His eyes were a deep beautiful shade of grey, breathtaking. She should definitely be afraid strangely she wasn't. She didn't know how or why but this man sitting beside her made her feel safe and she didn't even know his name. "I found you laying at the bottom of some rocks bleeding."  it was a half truth Alex thought to himself. "Your on my land at our hospital. My doctor thought it would be best to keep you here overnight so you could rest." It started to come back to her. After the huge wolf had run away from her she had started to climb back down there rocks when she lost her footing then it was lights out.  "You found me? Way out there?" She stared at the ceiling "and here I thought I found an untouched sanctuary" she said more to herself but he heard the disappointment.  Alex couldn't help but smile, if she only knew how true her words truly were. But it was his sanctuary, untouched by humans, and he didn't like to share. "Wait, you have your own hospital?" "Yes. We are a few miles from town in the middle of nowhere, so it seemed like a good idea to build one.” "I'm so sorry I troubled you." She whispered as her fingers played with an imaginary thread on the streets. "If your doctor will allow me, I'll see myself home as to not be a further bother" her voice was so soft, almost so soft it was hardly even a whisper.      Was this girl for real? She just woke up in a strange place with a strange man; she wasn’t scared or screaming. It was the exact opposite really she was almost shy and timid. Like she was a child about to be scolded. Alex found her reaction to finding herself in a strange room with a strange man both satisfying and frustrating. Perhaps she felt the pull towards him, or his presence was calming for her like she was for Shi.     Nodding towards her he wasn't sure what to even say. His mind wanted her far away, his heart never wanted to let her out of his sight again. He never understood the mate bond. He didn't know her, only her name. How could he have all these thoughts and feelings? In truth that's part of the reason he never looked for his mate.      The moon goddess had made her his perfect match. The yin to his yang. Where he lacked she excelled and vise versa. That much he understood, it was the instant emotions he never agreed with or understood. Humans didn't work the same way as werewolves. So why would the moon goddess pair him with one?      Based on her mannerisms and tone of voice she was weak, what use did he have for a weak mate? It didn't matter, he didn't want a mate, so there was no use debating it with himself and surely he wasn't going to talk to Shi about this. He knew Shi's thoughts and wants without even asking, he wanted Apryl. Shi had been silent during his conversation with Apryl. Shi didn’t need time to come around, but he also knew that Alex needed to come to terms with this on his own. She was here and she was safe, so Shi was content just to be near her. 'I'll call for Zack directly then if that is what you wish." Alex’s words came out harsh. Was it because she wanted to leave him already? If he didn’t want her why would he care if she was ready to get back to her home? "No, please. I don't want to be a bother, and it looks like it's early. I've already disturbed you enough. I can wait till he comes in on his own."     Seriously was this girl for real!? The human girls he had encountered were nothing like her. They were self centered and selfish. This girl didn't seem to have a selfish bone in her body. And her body language showed no signs of fear, maybe she was crazy. Alex did not need anymore crazy. "Apryl.." "How do you know my name?" her surprise was evident when she turned his gaze to his face. Alex swore he could see the panic flash in her eyes. "When I found you your head was bleeding. When I held pressure to it you gained consciousness for a moment and you told me."  "Oh. I'm sorry I don't recall that. Nor your name." "Alex."  "It's nice to meet you Alex. Thank you for helping me" she smiled at him but her smile never reached her eyes.      Those beautiful eyes held a story, a sad one if he had to guess. He nodded his head at her. He wanted nothing more than to keep her here and keep her safe. He had to keep reminding himself he doesn't want a mate. He had to stop this, he couldn’t let himself think those things it would just confuse him more. "You were trespassing. But seeing as you got hurt I had to ensure your safety since it happened on my land. "He made his words sound hurtful and watched as she bowed her head in shame. I' Shi screamed in his head. 'I don't want a mate!'  'But I do!'  "s**t" Alex muttered it aloud. He stood and without looking back, without uttering another word, exited the room. Leaving Apryl, who suddenly felt a chill when he exited. 'So much for going unnoticed' she thought to herself.      What was she going to do now? This man has saved her showed her compassion. She felt so drawn to this stranger, she never felt this way about anyone before. But his words stung and effected her more than any other. Maybe she would never see him again? Why did that thought break her heart? She snuggled deeper into the bed and covers as she fought the chill that now lingered down deep into her soul.
