Family dinner part 1

    In the evening Matt and I came home as soon as we finished all the shopping we had planned for that day. As soon as we entered the house I heard my mom coming to the living room "Oh my dear boy, I am so happy to have you here!" she said while hugging Matt.

    "I am happy to be here Mrs. Smith. I was missing this cupcake that you call daughter and I missed your delicious cooking." I heard Matt saying while kissing my mom on the forehead.

    "Mr. Davis, it's an honor to have you as a guest in our home!" my dad, after shaking Matt's hand. 

    "It's good to be here Mr. Smith. How have you been? How is business going?" Matt asked, and they started talking about business like it was the most natural thing in the world ignoring me and mom. It was a natural thing for them to do. You see, Matt is great in business, his parents own the wonderful hotel chain called Davis Legacy, however, he never was interested in taking over the family business, so he started his own. And to be honest he did a great job. At 30 years he is one of the most powerful businessman in the country and his dad is still asking him for advise while running the hotel chain.

    "I am going upstairs to take a shower and to change my clothes. Be back in a few minutes." I said while going to the stairs.

    "Please be presentable" I heard my mom reply "We are having a family dinner and I want you to look outstanding."

    I got to my room, took a shower and was searching for some clothes when I heard a knocking on my door. I put on a red short dress and opened the door. "Surprise!" I hear Jules screaming in excitement while she entered my room.

    "Hello Jules, it's good to see you. What have you been up to today?" I ask

    "Well, for starters, today I just had some work pending in the office, so I had to attend. And you know how Jack gets when I am not done on time with the tasks I have. However, it was strange..." I hear her cut the sentence while thinking of something.

    "What was strange Jules?" I ask "Did something happen to you? Are you alright?" I was worried for her.

    "He is the CEO as you my know, but today he was not in the office when I came. And this is strange, because usually he is the first to come in and the last one to leave that damn office."

    "Oh dear, you got me worried for a minute. I thought that something happened to you. You know your brother, he is a busy man. Maybe he had some meeting that he had to attend elsewhere. He will tell you eventually, don't worry."

    "Yeah, maybe... Or maybe he found a girl already... I wonder" I hear her saying

    In that moment a felt my heart ache. Is it possible that he has someone? Why are you thinking about this Bella? I wondered. You have other things to worry about, not him. Stop thinking about him, you already know how that story ends. I say to myself as a look in the mirror to put some make-up on.

    Later we are in the living room while Maria, our housekeeper was serving the dinner. My mom always cooks, however when it comes to serving the food, Maria was always the one doing it.  I took a look at the table setting and something was off. How come there were 6 sets and as I was about to ask Maria I heard the front door open and his deep voice "Hello everyone! I hope I am not late today" and I turned around.

    Oh my God, how could mom invite him to this dinner. "Hello" I say "Mom I need your help in the kitchen, can you please come?"

    "Hello Jack" my mom said "I am coming Bella" I hear her and as soon as she entered the kitchen I say in a low voice.

    "Mom, this was supposed to be family dinner, why did you invite Jack?" 

    "Oh sweetheart, he is family. And it wasn't me who asked him to come, it was your daddy. You know that Jack is like a son to him, so why don't you ask him."

    "Mom! I just wanted to have a beautiful dinner with you, dad, Jules and Matt. This is family to me."

    "Oh hush.. Where are your manners? I know that you in Jack don't get so well because of the teasing he did to you in the past, but Bella, you are adults now, so please be a nice lady and stop this nonsense right now." and by the expression on her face I knew that the conversation was over.

    Oh mom, you have no idea what happened and why I can't just be normal again around him. I took a deep breath and went in the living room putting a smile on my face that was not reaching my eyes.
