Ensley stared at him as he spoke. Her eyes never leaving his face as he told the story of how all of the water faes were killed.
"Water fae were the most powerful. They were the highest level of the fae. Your Mother was Queen of the Unseelie court. I was just a boy when I watched what they did to her..."
Ensley put her hand up he stopped. "What did they do?" She whispered.
He didn't want to tell her but he knew that she needed to know.
"They ripped her wings off and chained her in iron so that way she couldn't get away. They then nailed her down..." He lowers his head as he says this not finishing his sentence. She knew what happened. He didn't need to tell her.
Ensley put her hand over her mouth. "Who is they?" She demands. He states at her.
"Who, Calev?" She yells.
Calev jumps at her voice. "The other fae. You have to realize that they were scared of the water fae. Water fae held all the power. So the sentences your mother to death."
She sat there. She was the last water fae. The other fae would come for her, that she was sure of. She slowly got off the bed and got dressed she needed to get away from this place. Before she ended up like her mother. She was about to pull her pants on when the door flew open.
"Ensley, dear leaving so soon?" The woman in white said. Ensley stared at her.
" Your father wasn't a water fae." The women smiled at her. That smile sent Ensley skin crawling.
"You're not my mother?" Ensley questions her.
"No, not by blood. I am the keeper. A goddess. I'm a stand-in for her. You are truly special Ensley. The last water fae. A half breed." She was standing in front of Ensley now. Ensley was so confused. She was told that her father was dead and a fae that she knew as her mother was never her mother. In which Ensley was wondering where she was. At that point, the keeper turned into her.
"I've always been by your side." She said with a smile.
All Ensley could think was how she knew fairies were tricksters and they almost never told the truth. She looked down at the ground. If she was going to get straight answers she needed to go to the mermaids. She needed the truth.
"The mermaids will tell you what we have my dear. But if you feel like you need to ask them I won't stop you." The keeper said breaking her thoughts.
Ensley raised her head and looked her in the eyes. "I think it would be best if I did talk to the mermaids." With that, she went back to her bed and sat down. She had enough of this for one day.
Ensley flashback before the fae world:
She stood there watching everything go past her. Lost in her thoughts once again. His voice boomed in her mind. She heard his words over and over. Yet she feels the same pain she felt every day after hearing his words. The what-if. The whys. If she let him in like the others he may destroy her more than the others. She couldn't have that. She took a step closer to the edge. She knew that letting someone in would do more harm than good. She took a deep breath in and jumped. She slowly opened her eyes and watched the water below come closer. She didn't even shut her eyes as she hit the surface breaking through. The crash of the water-filled her ears now. It was something to drown out his voice. She didn't even try to come up for air nor did she fight the burning in her lungs. She simply just let herself fall into the darkness. Letting it take over. There was after all only so much one can take of being hurt. Her thoughts still ran wild. Normally she would stop them and say they are wrong but today she let then run. She let the tears join the water. Slowly she started swimming to the surface. She threw her head back and looked around. The sun was warm on her face. Tears still ran down her face as she made her way to the shore. Every sweet word spoken was a lie. He knew what he was doing. He was breaking her down. She stood at the shoreline taking in the beauty. This place wasn't home she knew that. Ensley stood there as she realized that she has been here many times. At that moment she felt someone watching her. She looked around and seen no one else. At that moment she made her way back to the water. It was time to go back...
