We made our way back to the pack-house for what felt like the hundredth time today. Going back and forth with stupid messages.
"Did you get the feeling she was hiding something?" Chad asked me, unable to keep the pain out of his voice.
"Pack a bag just in case she runs in the middle of the night. I'm not entirely convinced that she'll stay, no matter what she tells us," I explained to him.
We knocked on the door of the Alpha's office and waited for him to let us enter.
"We have told her, sir. She'll be ready to join the pack tomorrow morning," I told him.
He didn't look at me, he continued looking at his laptop, refusing to acknowledge me, as he usually did.
"Is this true, Chad?" he looked up to look at Chad.
"Phoenix wouldn't have said it if it wasn't," Chad replied, and I grinned at him.
Something the Alpha saw instantly. "Is that funny, Phoenix?" he asked me, slamming the laptop shut, and staring at me.
"No, no, of course not," I replied, as I stared into his eyes. I wasn't stupid enough to try and challenge him now, while he could refuse Iris's acceptance into this pack.
"Why did you smirk?" he asked me, tauntingly.
Before I could ever think of an excuse, or any reason, he had dashed from his chair to me, and I felt something hard thud into my face, knocking me back into the door.
I raised a hand to my now pounding lip, wiped the wet substance away which I knew was blood, and spat the rest onto the floor.
Chad was furious, he looked at me with concern, but I shook my head at him, signaling him not to do anything.
"I'd appreciate less cheek from you, Chad," he said slowly as he turned to him.
Chad had rushed over to me, and helped me stand up straight. Straining to keep his mouth closed.
"Is that all?" he asked us as he sat behind his desk.
If I spoke now, I knew I'd say something he'd make me regret, so I refused to speak.
"Yes, father," Chad replied, not looking at him.
"So, she knows all the rules, she is prepared, she knows what is expected of her?" he asked, smugly.
"Not quite," Chad told him, honestly.
"Well, get her in line. She is to train every morning with the rest of the pack. I have a new fitness plan that she needs to learn. I also want her undivided attention and commitment to the pack, or I'll move her into the pack-house where she won't be distracted by the likes of you," he said with a smirk.
"We will give her the introduction tomorrow, she'll have to denounce her old pack in front of the entire pack, and pledge loyalty," he explained, but I cut him off.
"In front of the entire pack?" I asked him, knowing how uncomfortable Iris would be.
"Of course, in front of the entire pack," he snapped at me disgustedly.
"Iris is a very shy person," Chad began, but he was cut off.
"I don't care," he began, enunciating every word slowly.
"I have never accepted a rogue into my pack. I am doing this a favor for you, but don't expect her to have special treatment just because she is your mate. That means nothing in my pack. She will act like any other member of my pack, regardless of her status to you. Do I make myself clear?"
Rage built up inside me. I wanted to smash the entire pack-house up. I wanted to hurt him, to cause him as much pain as possible.
"Phoenix?" Chad tried to get my attention moments later, but I glared at him, and put one finger over my mouth, hoping he'd hang on until we got far enough away from the Alpha.
"Phoenix, are you okay?" he asked, as we were about to walk into the Alpha house.
"I hope he drops soon so I don't have to put up with him any longer!" I bellowed at Chad as he closed the door behind me.
"Don't say that. If he hears you-" but I laughed at his response.
"How are we supposed to tell Iris this? I feel like it's one bad thing after another!" Chad said, frustrated.
"I'll tell her," I told him. He looked at me curiously.
"You'll tell her?" he asked, quizzically.
"What?" I asked him, curiously.
"You don't exactly have the sympathetic heart," he told me.
"I have a heart here somewhere!" I told him as I searched all my pockets, earning a loud laugh from him.
"Well, it's my fault that he's doing this to her," I explained to Chad, simply.
He looked at me with sympathy, and I nearly punched him.
"I don't want to ever see you look at me like that again!" I told him, and he laughed.
"Break it to her gently, Fee," Chad told me.
I knocked on her bedroom door. I waited a couple of minutes before she answered.
She was wrapped in a towel, her long hair was still wet.
Her shoulder bones were exposed, as well as her upper chest.
Her skin looked silky and soft.
"Is everything okay?" she asked me, snapping me back into reality.
"Can I come in?" I asked her. She hesitated at first, and then she stepped aside.
I walked into her room. I was glad to see she made herself at home.
Then I noticed a little bag shoved hurriedly under her bed, and I noticed some clothes and snacks hanging out of it.
"I've got something to tell you," I told her, ignoring the bag, and sitting myself on her bed.
She sat next to me, her complete self was concentrating on me now.
"We have spoken to the Alpha, you know, to let him know that you're ready to join the pack," I began, her big brown eyes looking up at me intently. She sat more comfortably on the bed, and I couldn't help but notice the towel slowly falling off of her inner thigh.
Bruce's thoughts consumed me, before I was able to clear my mind. I looked back into her eyes, trying my best not to let my eyes wander around her skin.
"He wants you to begin training," I told her, as I looked for words that made it sound better than the way he had explained it to me.
"After the introduction tomorrow, you are to train on the training grounds with the rest of the pack," I told her, fighting the urge to look around her body.
It was only when I heard the panic in her voice that I was able to snap out of my thoughts completely.
"The entire pack?"
"Yes, he's set up a new regime, and he wants all the pack to learn it," I told her.
"What else?" she asked, looking at me curiously, panic laced in her voice.
"What?" I asked her, shocked.
"There's something you're not telling me," she told me, her worried expression severe now.
I felt a small twinge, a tug in my chest as I looked at her.
"If you don't do well, he'll put you in the pack-house with the rest of the pack, and he'll limit our contact with you," I told her, gently.
She stood up quickly, and began pacing the room.
"I have never trained a day in my life!" she panicked.
I felt completely helpless.
"Phoenix, I've never thrown a punch before in my life. What am I supposed to do? How am I supposed to stay in the pack-house with your entire pack, when I don't know anyone?" She took a deep breath.
"And what if they don't like me!" she bellowed.
I rushed over to her, and wrapped her tightly in my arms, holding her to my chest. Bolts of electricity washed through my palms as I touched her exposed skin.
"It's not like that. He doesn't want you to be distracted or preoccupied with us, and even if he put you in the pack-house, they'd love you," I told her, ignoring the dancing sparks on my skin.
She took a while to calm down, and even though she was significantly calmer than she was, she still had that trace of panic.
"Phoenix, what do I do?" she asked me, the panic still lodged in her throat.
"Chad and I will help you," I told her.
"If you are worried about the new regime, Chad and I will guide you through it," I comforted her.
