"I wasn't expecting her to tell us so soon," Chad turned to me as he closed the door behind him, leaving Iris in the room.
"What do you think?" he asked me.
"Who's Alpha Felix?" I asked him.
"I have no idea, never heard of him," Chad replied.
"Why is she so scared?" I asked him.
We didn't say anything for a minute.
"She comes from the 'Crescent-moon' pack?" I asked him.
"I've never heard of them, either," Chad sighed.
"Let's hope Eric knows."
"We'll soon see how far she's run away from them," I said.
"Then we'll have to tell dad about her."
"He'll be furious the longer we leave it," Chad replied.
"Do we think the same thing?" Chad eyed me suspiciously a few minutes later.
"What's that?"
"These 'punishments', weren't just punishments?" Chad said with an ounce of anger.
"It'll explain why she's so timid all the time, and cautious of her words," I told him, finding anger seething within me too.
"You don't like her, do you?" Chad asked me half-assed, as if he already knew the answer.
"What makes you say that?" I asked him, anger pressing against my core again.
"You don't seem to like her. I mean your reactions to her... It just feels like you don't"
"I hate how she's so timid all the time. There's some trauma there, and it infuriates me. And, the way she thinks so little of herself," I told him, and the expression on his face calmed my anger.
"Yeah, I know what you mean."
I didn't reply, finishing the conversation as we walked into Eric's office.
"No more fighting please," he said as we walked in. "I don't think my office can take another one."
Chad gave off a light laugh.
"What can I do for you?" he asked as he sat behind his desk.
"We had just had a chat with Iris, and she told us where she was from, and who and why she ran away." Chad told him.
"Okay?" he asked curiously.
"Well, we have no idea where it is, or who her old Alpha is," Chad huffed.
"Alpha Felix of the Crescent-moon pack" I told him, and we watched as his face turned pale.
"Who is he?" I asked, watching his demeanor.
"I haven't heard that name for many years" He sighed, looking down for a minute before he began to tell us the information we wanted to know.
"But, she can't be" He muttered.
"She can't be what?" I asked him, frustrated.
"She can't be from his pack, they're miles away" he sighed and pulled a map out from his desk drawer and placed the map down on his desk after removing all of his belongings.
"This is where we are," he pointed out on the map.
"That's where the crescent-moon pack is," he showed us, as he pointed to an area on the map that was very far away from us.
Chad and I looked at each other confused.
"How long would it have taken her to travel?" I asked him.
"Well, we know it was a couple of weeks or maybe more,"
"According to Doctor Sam. We also know she was in her wolf form, and we know she didn't take any breaks until she was at our border. She must have run day and night constantly. No wonder she was so exhausted."
"So was it doable?" Chad asked.
"Well, it isn't supposed to be, but she did it,"
"It's more than a month's trip, and she does it in a couple of weeks? Day and night, no stops," he said, shocked. "She was running from him, wasn't she?" He paused to look at us.
"Yeah, that and she was mated to their Gamma," I told him. He looked at me curiously.
"They rejected each other," Chad jumped in.
"But, the torment in the aftermath is what made her run," I explained.
Eric took a very deep breath, as if it pained him to continue.
"Felix used to reside on the next border across from us. He left just after you were born. He killed the Alpha of the crescent-moon pack and took over. We had to banish him as that was the only thing we could do about it. Some Alphas nearby suggested murder for treason, but his reasoning was within his rights and there was no proof otherwise. Stories of him only got worse over the years."
"If she has run from him, she might not be safe, even here," he finished, leaning back in his seat.
"What was his reasoning for killing the original Alpha?" I asked him, curiously.
"That the Alpha had gone mad," he shrugged.
"It happens," he explained as he saw our looks of shock.
"Whether he did or not, we don't know. We questioned the entire pack, and they all had the same story. Whether he used his new-found Alpha control to force them to lie for him... It was hard to tell."
We sat in silence for a moment, as we took in Eric's words.
"So, what do we do?" Chad asked him.
"Have you both decided if you are able to share a mate?" he asked us.
Chad and I paused for a minute. I wasn't set on sharing a mate with Chad, but I wanted her to stay.
"I think there is a bigger issue at hand than whether we will share a mate," I told them.
"In order to make a decision moving forward, you need to decide if you'll be able to accept that she is mated to both of you," Eric explained.
"If it means keeping her here safely, I'll accept that she will be mated to you as well," Chad sighed heavily at me.
"Fine," I growled, furiously.
"So, she's staying?" Eric asked us.
"I suppose so, yes." Chad replied.
He looked at me. "She's staying" I nodded. "What do we do about Felix?"
"Hope he doesn't find out that she's here," Eric began.
"You need to tell the Alpha: the only way to ensure her safety is if she becomes a pack member. Has she completely abandoned all ties to her old pack?" Eric asked us.
"Well, she has a rogue scent," I told him.
He smiled at me. "Good, she needs to join our pack now, so that if they do ever find her here, they'll have no power over her, and no right to take her away," he explained.
"What does that mean?" Chad asked, looking curious.
"It means exactly what it sounds like. Many wolves go rogue, some are banished, some just simply run away. But, if that pack wants to track down the deserters, they are completely within their rights to execute or punish them however they see fit. The rogues we see are either too dangerous to track down or not worth the hassle," Eric explained.
"You think he'll come after her?" I asked him.
He scoffed loudly. "She didn't run this far 'just in case'. He would want to kill her. A man like Felix wouldn't chance anyone making him or his pack look foolish. The Alpha needs to accept her into our pack where she has undeniable protection. If she is part of our pack, he could come here to claim her all he wants. He wouldn't get far. There'd be nothing he could do," Eric stated, taking a seat behind his desk.
"Though it would be better to hide her away," Eric muttered to himself.
"Why?" I asked him.
"Well, if he knows she's here, he won't stop until he has her. It's a lot of hassle. It would be much easier to hide her, with all the new protection around her, and eventually he'd look elsewhere," he smiled.
Chad and I looked at each other for a minute. "He will never accept her," I told Eric.
"Then, you know what to do," Eric raised his eyebrows.
