I was on my morning run when the smell slapped me in the face. At first, it was the rogue smell that hit me and made me angry. Then, suddenly, the most enticing smell hit me. My wolf Bruce became frantic in my mind, screaming 'mate' non-stop. I rushed towards the scent, becoming increasingly excited. I saw Chad leave the training gym and I rushed to get past him, but he began running too. We both stopped suddenly when we found the source of the scent. She laid there, just on the edge of the river. She was filthy. It's a surprise we could even smell her scent as she was covered in earthy nature. Her back was covered in blood, as were her arms and legs. I walked over to her, but a different smell hit me hard. "She's a rogue!" I said furiously as I realized that she was the source of that foul smell. "She needs help!" Chad stated, obviously. I picked her up in my arms and carried her to the Alpha house, where we could get her some help. I managed to turn her over when I picked her up and even under all the dirt and blood she was covered in, I could see just how gorgeous she was. "Mate," softly called out from my mouth, and I was horrified when I heard the same word echo from Chad. When we reached the Alpha house, I laid her down in the spare room while Chad went for help. Within a few minutes, our doctors and nurses came rushing in, asking Chad what had happened. "Place her on a drip for an hour, Mary. She's slightly dehydrated. Some severe wounds on her body. Her feet have been impaled, with aggressive bruising around her heels and the palms of her hands. She has been running in her wolf form for a very long time." The doctor spoke loudly to his nurse. "What was she running from?" Chad asked him. "I'm not sure, whatever it was, she didn't want to be caught by it." "She was trying hard not to slow down," he said thoughtfully. "When will she wake up?" I asked him. "Any moment, really. I'd just let her rest and recover for now." "You can decide what to do with her later," he said politely as he left one nurse on watch and left with the rest of his team. I looked at Chad, who was already looking at me. "I think we need to talk to Eric," I told him. He kept quiet but nodded at me. Eric was one of the pack advisers and one of our father's closest friends. He was an older man with white hair and the beginning of what could be a very long beard. We walked next door to the pack house and up to Eric's office. He greeted us as he usually did, with a happy and cheery greeting, and told us to make ourselves comfortable. "What can I do for the Alpha sons?" He asked us happily. "We have a few questions that require immediate answers." I told him. It was only when I was sitting across from his happy face that anger fueled me again as I remembered my mate was also Chad's mate. "Sounds serious, what kind of questions?" "Have you ever heard of anything like two wolves sharing a mate? Or anything similar?" Chad asked him, and I felt myself become a little resentful towards him. "But, of course. There have been a lot of stories over the years. It is usually common with twins. The moon-goddess must like the idea of twins sharing a mate." He replied. "What if these wolves don't want to share a mate? What happens then?" I asked, and I could see Chad's eager expression. "Well, Phoenix, I witnessed several years ago," he began slowly. "Twin brothers who shared a mate. They made her choose. She didn't want to, of course... How does one choose between mates?" he asked Chad and me, before he carried on. "Well, she took her time, wishing she didn't have to. And eventually chose one. Well, it was catastrophic!" "The one she didn't choose was so angry he renounced his Alpha status and left on destructive terms with his twin, tearing the entire pack apart!" Eric shook his head. "And the one she did choose, well... The bond had split, almost perished." "There was nothing left between them, and they went their separate ways..." He darted his eyes from Chad to me and back to Chad again. "Why are you asking?" "So, we discovered our mate today." Chad began. "So, you both share a mate?" he asked with a sigh. "Of course we do, why wouldn't we?" I spat. "If I were to give any advice to you both, I would suggest you embrace it. You're both mated to her for a reason." He replied, not taking his gaze off of me, which only infuriated me more. "Is it so ridiculous that I would rather have my own mate?" I spat. "No, of course not. It's natural as a twin that you would want your own mate, but if the goddess has paired you and Chad with one mate, there must be a reason." He replied. "Funny, what reason is that, then?" Chad laughed, equally angry as I was. "Just out of curiosity, who is this girl?" "How did you find her?" He asked Chad as I paced around the room. "She's just some rogue that collapsed on our border." I spat honestly. "Phoenix!" Chad spat at me with a warning. "What?" I looked at him. More anger seemed to radiate from me, no matter how much I tried to hold it back. "She does appear to be a rogue, and she did pass out on our border. It looked like she was running from something," Chad began. "She has just been looked at by our pack doctors. She's in the spare room of the Alpha house, and she's not awake yet to ask her." I rolled my eyes internally, there was nothing wrong with what I said, he was just too soft. "If I were the pair of you, I would give her some time. She is going to wake up and realize she has two mates, it'll be an even bigger shock to her than it was for you two." Eric told us. "How are we supposed to deal with this?" Chad asked in frustration, as he sat down in the chair. "Give yourselves time to wrap your head around it." "I don't want to wrap my head around it!" I bellowed out loud. "I don't want to share my mate with anyone, not even Phoenix!" Chad bellowed back. "Boys, please." "What do you mean, your mate?" I asked him. I was so angry it was almost uncontrollable. "She is my mate!" Chad stood up furiously. "And she's my mate, too!" I walked into him. A huge wave of jealousy consumed the pair of us. Chad pushed me, and I swung for him, just hitting him in the jaw. He retaliated by diving into me, knocking us to the ground. He punched me in the face repeatedly before I managed to throw him off of me, and get on top of him. I punched him everywhere and anywhere I could. It was only when the nurse knocked frantically at the door that we stopped. "She's awake-" But we didn't hear anything she said. After that, we bolted back to the Alpha house.
