Chapter two

1950 Words
Jayden; Today was my birthday but I didn't care about that. I had never cared about my birthday. I was currently on my way to the family's mansion as today was the D-day. The day my grandfather's will would be read. It wasn't like I cared about whatever was written in the will as I already had my own company, but I had to go there to honor my grandfather's memory and there was also the fact that my grandmother would literally kill me if I didn't show up. Plus, there was the fact that my grandfather was the one who made me into what I am today, I owe all my success to him. As the Rolls Royce slowly made its way through the traffic, my mind wandered back to my grandfather. When he was alive, he was a force to be reckoned with. He had ruthless business tactics and a demanding nature. People often said I was even more ruthless and unforgiving than he was. Even with how rich my grandfather was, I didn't just depend on his money, I built my own empire from scratch. We finally pulled up in front of the old mansion and I stepped out of the car after my bodyguard, Diego, opened the door. As I walked towards the main house, the bodyguards by the front door opened the door and bowed their heads when they saw me. There was something strange about the atmosphere, but I couldn't quite place it. As soon as I stepped into the house, a loud and excited scream echoed. "Happy birthday!!" I frowned, glaring at the people in front of me. They knew I hated celebrating my birthday, yet they went ahead with this. "Happy birthday my child," my Grandmother said as she enveloped me in a bone-crushing hug. "I didn't ask for this, Grandma," I said through gritted teeth. She smiled widely. "I know! I just wanted to do it for you. You're thirty-five now and you've never celebrated your birthday," she exclaimed and I glanced around. There were lots of young women in the room and I clenched my jaw tightly as they stared at me seductively. They were all dressed scantily, with their very short dresses and their cleavages exposed. They were like hawks and I was their prey. I knew it was my grandmother's ploy. She was always trying to match me with a woman from an influential family. "Where is Mr. Harrington?" I demanded. Trevor Harrington was the family's lawyer and the person in charge of reading the will. I didn't have time to waste on a stupid birthday party, I had other businesses to attend to. "We can meet the lawyer later. Right now, we are going to celebrate your birthday party," she said cheerfully and I scoffed. "No, thank you, Grandma. I don't want to party. I have other important work to do." "Are you trying to say that I'm not important?" She questioned, faking a sob and I sighed. My grandmother could be that dramatic. "You have refused to take a wife because you've claimed to be busy. Now it's just a birthday party and I invited all these beautiful ladies—-I—you're so ungrateful," she began to wail and I sighed as I went to hug her "I'm sorry Grandma. I didn't mean it that way. I just—I wasn't expecting a party and I'm sorry that it's rude to the guests but I have a girlfriend—" She didn't let me continue my statement as she stopped her fake sobs and whipped her head up. "You have a girlfriend?" "Who is she? Do I know her? Is she beautiful? We really don't need the party anymore!" She gushed, crushing me tightly underneath her embrace. She then pulled away, looking at me in awe. "Yes! Now my grandson is a man! You have a girlfriend—" "Grandma, the guests are watching," I said as I noticed the women staring at us. "Oh—let them," then she turned to address them. "Thank you for coming ladies, but my Grandson is tired and weary from his travels and he also has business deals that he needs to get back to. Therefore, I would like to officially announce the end of the party!" She stated, shooing them off and I chuckled. I however realized that I was in trouble as she would ask to see this mystery girlfriend. I had no woman to show to her as all the numerous women I've always been with were just for the night. "Tell me about this, your girlfriend?" She grabbed my arms and I internally face-palmed. "Not now Grandma, let's hear from the lawyer first and we'll talk about my girlfriend later," I urged and she nodded. "Fine, then. And I hope you're not lying to me?" She raised a brow and I shook my head. "Not at all, Grandma." We went to the living room where the lawyer and the other members of the family were already seated. The family consisted of My grandmother, my nephew, an aunt, and I. May was my father's stepsister, from an affair that my grandfather had with his secretary and she had left the family for Cambodia and came back a few years after with a son whom she had claimed to not know his father. My grandfather was furious, but May didn't care and had told my grandfather that she didn't wish to be a part of the family as she had been told severally that she was a mistake. I was even surprised to see her but I figured that my grandmother had persuaded her to come. "Now that everyone is here, shall we proceed, Mr. Harrington?" I demanded and he nodded. "Yes. According to the late Mr. Tyrell,60% of his wealth goes to his only grandson. 15% to his," he used his tongue to moisturize his lips and then continued. -"-bastard great-grandson" "18% to his wife, 5% to his estranged daughter if she were to ever return and the remaining 2% to be shared among his trusted staff." I kept quiet to see if there would be any complaints from any of them. "But," the lawyer glanced around, his eyes falling on me. "As for the company and other properties given to Mr. Jayden Tyrell here, they will not be given to him until he gets married and has a child within a year. Failure to do that will mean that he has agreed to forfeit his inheritance and everything will go to all orphanages around the town." I chuckled darkly. That sly old man. He was always pushing me to get married, I'm not surprised that he did something like this. What a sick joke. My Grandmother smiled and I was about to wonder why when I realized that I had earlier told her that I had a girlfriend. After everything was finalized, my grandmother came to my side, beaming with smiles. "Your grandfather was always worried that you might never be able to get married because of what happened. I am so happy that you've proved him wrong." "All you need to do now is to get married to this girlfriend of yours." I turned to the lawyer. "So, Mr. Harrington, what this means is that if I don't get a wife and a kid in the next year, I stand to lose my inheritance to some charity organization?" "Yes sir, and the time starts from when the will is read—which is now," he glanced at his wristwatch. Ha! It wasn't even like I cared about any stupid inheritance but the thought of something that was rightfully mine, something I worked so hard for! Something my father worked hard for! Going somewhere else irked me. I stood up and adjusted my suit and my grandmother smiled. She probably thought I wanted to announce my girlfriend, but I knew I would surprise her with my next words. "Hand everything over to whatever charity organization you deem fit!" I could hear gasps from people in the room and from the corner of my eyes, I saw my grandma's eyes widen. "What—what about your girlfriend?" "I lied about that," I turned to leave when she moved to my front, blocking my way and jabbing a finger to my face. "You ungrateful, heartless fool!" She spat out and then clutched her chest. "What kind of Grandson have I been blessed with!" I moved to hold her as it looked like she would collapse but she slapped my hand away. "Get your hands away from me! Your grandfather would curse you in his grave, your father would turn, and me! If I die, I will haunt you for the rest of your life!" I shook my head, there was nothing I could say. I knew she was angry, and had every reason to be, but I would not be taking a wife! Never! I was having a drink with Liam, my best friend as I told him about what happened and he burst out into laughter. "But man, you aren't getting any younger. You have to consider taking a wife," he pointed out and I glared at him. "Look who's talking about taking a wife. How many baby mamas do you have again?" He chuckled. "You know Sheila, I plan on marrying this one. She takes me to cloud nine and I see a future with her." "You always see a future with them all. I bet that the future is becoming your baby mama. Remember Kira, Juliana, Lynn—" "Enough man!" He took a sip from his glass. "Look, I'm really serious about Sheila." I raised my hands defensively. "If you say so" "Have you thought about reaching out to the women you've been with—maybe one of them got pregnant and has your child—you can't just let that huge inheritance go like that." I let the harsh taste of the vodka burn my throat, wishing it would burn the worries from my mind too. "A child?" I chuckled. Sure a few of them reached out to me, claiming to be carrying my child but upon further investigations, I found out that they were lying to get more money from me. "Yeah—you know—you couldn't have been shooting blanks all this while, give me your phone—you still have their number right?" I shook my head. There was no way I was going to do that. The inheritance can go to hell for all I care. "Come on! It won't hurt to try. You don't even have to get married to her, just fake a marriage or something—" My eyes shot up to meet him and he nodded his head. "Yeah, I'm serious." I thought it was a bad idea and continued refusing but I finally gave in. He dialed the first number. "Hi Selene, this is Liam, Mr. Tyrell's assistant, we just want to know if perhaps you had a child for him—-" She gasped and ended up insulting him. I think I might've broken up with her harshly. The second one told him not to ever call as she was happily married now. We ended up calling and texting almost a hundred women and Liam glared at me, he was tired. Most of them ended up insulting me. Apparently, I had ended things with them cruelly. "Dude! You mean you've slept with all these women?" He shook his head. "I don't think this is going to work," I muttered and he agreed. "I think your case is a lost cause."
